00:01You tired yet?
00:02I don't get tired.
00:03I don't get tired.
00:04Pop a 9 volt battery.
00:05Good to go.
00:06I see.
00:07Good to go.
00:08Great.
00:10So I'm sure you must have been offered many other more conventional superhero roles over
00:14the years.
00:15Why this one?
00:17I just think the idea, the germ of the idea of an alcoholic superhero is genius.
00:28It sort of breaks everything in our minds that we think about superhero and just that idea
00:36promises something special.
00:41The idea, I choose from, I'm thinking of myself, it's Friday night, I'm in the movie theater,
00:51the lights go down.
00:53Does the beginning of the idea give me that rock concert feeling?
00:58You know?
00:59And, you know, I've been very, very successful with that idea.
01:05And this one is just, it's genius.
01:07The alcoholic superhero is genius.
01:10I was just talking to Charlize and sort of talking about your performance in this.
01:13And you know, she said you did okay.
01:15She kind of had to pick up the slack here and there.
01:17And she thought this might be like a really good break for you.
01:19Yeah.
01:19No, no, I think this is a big look.
01:20This is a big look for me.
01:22I got to work with the Academy Award winning actress, Charlize Theron.
01:27You know, she's dangerously attracted to me.
01:31You know?
01:31It was difficult for me some days.
01:34I say, you know, Chuck.
01:36I call her Chuck.
01:37You know?
01:37I say, hey, Chuck, settle down.
01:39All right?
01:39You know?
01:40I understand you're feeling me.
01:41I know the suit is screaming at you.
01:45But, you know, we got to stay professional.
01:47And she, you know, she settled down.
01:48She settled down.
01:49You know, we made love towards the end of the film and it sort of let the steam out.
01:54Great.
01:55The chemistry between you and Jason is equally as good.
01:59Yeah.
01:59We made love towards the end of the film also, Jason or not.
02:02Great.
02:02I was going to ask if there was any improvisation on set.
02:05Yeah.
02:06You know, let me tell you.
02:06That guy is a machine.
02:09Like, I need stuff to be in the script.
02:15You know?
02:15For me, rehearsal is really important.
02:17I need to kind of design it and let's build what we're going to do and let's understand.
02:22Whereas, Jason just can go forever.
02:28You know?
02:28And say something different every take and find it and create in the moment.
02:34It's like, it's fun to watch.
02:37Because my mind just doesn't work like that.
02:41You've played the best boxing superhero of all time.
02:44You fought terrorists.
02:45You fought aliens.
02:47Yeah.
02:47How was that?
02:48Yeah.
02:49The harness is, I don't recommend it.
02:54It's a little scary.
02:55It's difficult to have a superhero face when you're being dropped from, you know, 20, 30
03:04meters in the air.
03:06That was quite terrifying.
03:08The way Hancock doesn't, you know, he doesn't land well.
03:12So, part of the design is we would, you know, go up in the harness and we were doing free
03:18fall drops.
03:20So, they would just release me.
03:22Drop, drop, drop.
03:23And then the wires would kick in, you know, when you get that far from the ground.
03:28So, it was a little terrifying.
03:30A little terrifying.
03:33A little bit of puckering.
03:35There was puckering that was going on.
03:38And I wouldn't say it was fun, but it looks great in the movie.
03:42This is true.
03:43Why do you think it is that people are so keen to believe in superheroes?
03:47You know, I just think it's just from the beginning of humankind.
03:51Because, you know, we are, we're creatures of examples.
03:55It's very difficult for any of us to do anything that we don't have an example of how to do
04:03it.
04:04You know, just even religiously and spiritually, we all need the one.
04:11You know, Buddha to Buddhism and Moses to Judaism and Christ to Christianity.
04:19You know, it's something that we all desire.
04:22We need the one to show us the way.
04:25Brilliant.
04:26Thank you so much for your time.
04:27Absolute pleasure.
04:28Such a thrill to meet you.
04:29Thank you very much.
