Lachlan Vallender, Bango, has taken possession of a new speed tiller as part of his contracting business, using it to help turn over pastures for oats and ryegrass on the family farm near Yass.

00:00This tractor and speed tillers my dad's shopped around and want a new tractor so we ended up
00:04buying this nice John Deere. We got the speed tiller not too long ago and we got that from
00:09Kiara. The speed tiller is new to us so it's interesting to see how the results end up from
00:14it. It's very good for incorporating the sort of stubble and grass and everything that's on the
00:20top back into the soil so it'll be good to see how that works. The speed tiller's nice just because
00:25you can go a bit faster like your working speeds and you can do it in one pass so I
00:30guess it's
00:31going to be a pretty good time saving then going around with the scarifier and having all the tines
00:35get clogged up with the stubble and grasses and stuff. We've been using it for crop preparation
00:41so pre-sowing get the ground and seedbed nice and even and nice to sow into I guess. We're going
00:47to
00:47be doing oats and ryegrass here this year so that'll be for hay production and a bit of grazing as
00:53well.
00:53Cattle will be grazing it at some points and then it'll get locked up and be cut for hay.
00:59I definitely think there's a lot of new stuff in the industry. Everything's going to GPS and the
01:06younger people sort of pick that up a little bit quicker and I guess we grew up with technology so
01:10we sort of understand it a little bit better so it's cool to see all that and a lot of
01:15young
01:15people all over it so it'll be cool to see the young generation coming through and doing some cool stuff.
