Six members of the Iranian women’s football team have been granted humanitarian visas by Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke.

00:00Australians have been moved by the plight of these brave women.
00:05They're safe here and they should feel at home here.
00:09Six Iranian soccer players and one support staff have been granted asylum in Australia.
00:14The team were competing in Australia for the Women's Asian Cup.
00:18Fans became deeply concerned that the players would face persecution if they returned home to Iran.
00:24The team were labelled as traitors on state television after they refused to sing the national anthem on their March
00:322nd game against South Korea.
00:43When those players were silent at the start of their first match in Australia,
00:50that silence was heard as a roar all around the world.
00:57And the world wanted to know, and Australians wanted to know, how we would respond.
01:02We responded by saying the invitation is there.
01:05In Australia, you can be safe, you will be welcomed, you will be at home.
01:12In a last minute decision, one of the team members changed her mind
01:16and notified the Iranian embassy that she wanted to return to Iran.
01:21In Australia, people are able to change their mind, people are able to travel.
01:27And so we respect the context in which she has made that decision.
01:32This revealed the soccer team's safe house to the embassy.
01:35So the team were then moved to a different location.
