00:00ncaa tournament coming up next week college basketball of course a big focus of sports
00:05betting and regulation and just quite frankly with being careful to make sure there are no more
00:09bad actors involved in this and it seems like prohibit ic360 tell us more about them exactly
00:15what is going on here and how this could potentially affect the ncaa tournament and
00:19more so even the conference tournaments which are going on right now yeah the ncaa announced that
00:26this year starting with these conference tournaments and extending over into march madness
00:30there's going to be an extra layer of sports betting integrity monitoring this year so the
00:35for the first time referees and officials involved with these games and tournaments will be linked
00:40to a system like you mentioned craig called prohibit which uses an encrypted data network
00:45to prevent prohibited individuals from placing bets on games it's actually the same system
00:50that helped federal prosecutors in january expose that point shaving ring which i believe
00:56spanned 26 uh different college basketball players uh allegedly conspiring to point shave and you
01:03know fix games across uh over the past two years at multiple different programs uh so that was what
01:09they were linked to which allegedly flagged the uh you know the problem bets that were placed that
01:15uh are the reason we kind of have heard about that whole scandal so now they're extending it over
01:20to referees uh it uses kind of this third party integrity monitoring and regulatory compliance
01:27work that you know tracks uh who these referees are who they interact with um a lot of their personal
01:33data so in the past it's really only been used for players now it's going to extend over to officials
01:38and referees and this is the same firm that you know caught uh luis ortiz in his alleged betting
01:43scandal and jonte porter as well so ic360 kind of has a track record of you know doing some strong
01:49work in this and uh bringing this stuff up to the surface i think to your point craig we you
01:54know
01:54we might want to be talking about now preventing this stuff from happening versus flagging it after
01:59the fact so i think this is just kind of another another way the ncda's ncaa is trying to you
02:04know
02:04increase the protections in college sports at a time when integrity concerns are really high you know
02:09just last week we had uh two former players uh were ruled ineligible because they wouldn't comply
02:14with the ncaa's gambling investigation uh you certainly have ncaa president charlie baker has
02:20been very vocal about uh betting reform and you know eliminating prop bets or really restricting
02:26prop bets in general to kind of de-incentivize players from being swept up in schemes like this
02:31and of course he's been very vocal about uh prediction markets as well how they sort of lack
02:37the same integrity protections a lot of sports books have i think it's important to remember when talking
02:42about this story in particular is this is something that's going to be tracking sports bets and bets
02:47placed on platforms like fanduel and draft kings it won't necessarily be tracking uh prediction market
02:53services because again they haven't technically been deemed gambling so uh they don't get those same
02:58kind of protections that are automatically unfolded here but i imagine that's something the ncaa is
03:03going to keep lobbying for and keep working on kind of a small measure but always good to see them
03:07you know kind of inching more towards responsibility as much as they can
03:10you
