00:00All right, now this is a study that nobody wants to see, hear, or read.

00:06This is about the NCAA looking into some potential harassment for their student-athletes surrounding

00:11sports betting.

00:12And Matt, I just think eventually we're going to get to a point where even though the players

00:17are now being paid through NILs and everything else, in the end they still are student-athletes,

00:21still young, most under the age of 21, you know, I mean eventually maybe there is a chance

00:27that sports betting from a props perspective on these players goes away.

00:31You're never going to eliminate games, and I'm not suggesting they should eliminate that

00:35either.

00:36But player props is really what's the driving force, I think, behind this.

00:39Yeah, you're right, Craig, and you're right.

00:43It's not, you can't just look at these kids now, they're still kids, you know, 22, 23

00:48in college, what do they know about the world just yet, right?

00:52I mean, there's, it's hard to sit back and say, you know, well, now they're being paid,

00:58so you can say whatever you want about them online.

01:00No, you can't.

01:01And this study showed some real ugliness that comes out from people online.

01:07Sports betting happened to be the third most common topic for abuse targeted toward NCAA

01:14athletes, coaches, or officials throughout the tournament and championship period of

01:20a number of sports, volleyball, softball, baseball, but, and football was in there,

01:26but really, Craig, it was basketball, 80% of these, about 5000 harassing comments that

01:33they found, 80% of them came during March Madness, men's and women's from the second

01:38round on.

01:39And, Craig, I'm not going to get into the specifics of what these messages said, they're

01:47pretty rough.

01:48They're, they're pretty terrible, some of them.

01:52And it's, it's interesting to see how the study by the Signify group, they, they dive

01:58into whereas, you know, for, for the male athletes, people get angrier for them not

02:04cashing their bets, whereas for female athletes, they talk about, you know, cheating or potentially

02:10match fixing or the sexist comments.

02:15The sexist comments, unfortunately, they were second.

02:20Sexual abuse was the overall top thread for, for abuse comments.

02:26It was really a shame and you, and you mentioned it, Craig, that the NCAA is asking states

02:32to stop accepting these props on college players and states have tackled college differently

02:41when they've rolled out their laws.

02:44Some of them don't allow you to bet on in-state teams.

02:47Some of them don't allow you to bet on props.

02:50Some of them don't allow you to bet at all, like Oregon.

02:54But I think that we probably will start to see more states adopt this no prop betting

03:02on college kids thing.

03:04We already saw a couple of states have done it since the NCAA asked for it.

03:08And when Ohio broke it out, they actually had a little study that went along with it.

03:11And it was like 1% of handle or less came down to these bets.

03:16So it's easy to find that money elsewhere.

03:18It's easy to pivot away from it.

03:20And I, I agree with you that I think we're going to be doing a little bit more to protect

03:24these students going forward.
