00:00uh tennessee's supposed to get some crazy storm too right tennessee also as well but that's not
00:04what we're focused on sam and i we're talking about maybe potentially facing a college campus
00:10ban betting on sports naturally you would think to yourself okay well does this involve 18 year
00:15olds yes does it involve 21 year olds yes too and i think sam that's part of the dynamic where
00:21you're 21 years old man it seems like this is going to be a hard thing to push through
00:25but if it does it would be the first of its kind yeah if you're 18 if you're 19 if you're 20 21 22 23
00:33that's effectively what these two bills that were proposed in tennessee would ban all kinds of legal
00:39sports betting from college campuses in tennessee these two bills were introduced in the legislature
00:44this week as lawmakers came back to decide on laws which come about a week after we had that huge
00:51fbi indictment which named about 39 players at 17 different division one men's college basketball
00:58programs in this wide sweeping point shaving scandal where first half unders were targeted where there
01:04was the chinese basketball association was involved where you had this group of mafia linked alleged bad
01:11doers bribing these student athletes up to thirty thousand dollars in some cases we're now seeing the
01:19reaction to all of these huge scandals in this forum i would say this is probably the biggest thing we've
01:24seen yet it would be on an entire college campus in tennessee you can't have sports betting that means
01:29that uh the campuses would be forced on their wi-fi networks too to block access to legal sports books
01:35so not only would the sports books have to comply with this rule it would even extend as far as a mile
01:41radius off campus or at um you know let's say like i'm in new york for example uh saint john's plays at
01:47msg uh you know obviously it's a tennessee scenario but in this instance you for the entire day i would not
01:54be able to bet at madison square garden because a pro a college game is happening there so it's a very
02:02very wide sweeping ban um something obviously the legal sports books would not like to have happen
02:07you know if i pull my crystal ball out i would say because of that i don't think this will happen
02:13in its entirety what could end up happening is these bills get you know whittled down a bit and
02:18you see some other form of restriction passed obviously we've seen a lot of other states try
02:23to take some sort of action to combat this as well i would just kind of you know if you're banning the
02:27legal sports books from campuses and colleges you're not banning the offshore sports books the illegal
02:33websites that people can access in some cases prediction markets which states have tried to
02:38get out of their states entirely those will still all be there so if you're going to ban
02:42legal sports betting you have to make sure you're also enforcing the illegal sports betting which i
02:46would argue is even worse because in the case of all these scandals that's how these things were
02:51caught they were all you know whether it was a smart move or bad move these bad actors allegedly
02:56placed these bets on legal sports books so that's how they were caught if they're not available on
03:01college campuses you know i you know i know college kids find a lot of ways to to get things that they
03:06can't access legally on campus so i would just kind of urge lawmakers to keep that in mind as well but
03:12we'll definitely see how this keeps progressing uh throughout the what should be really interesting
03:16legislative cycle
