00:32you know, this is a dramatisation,
00:33and I think, you know,
00:35it's not totally historically accurate about Joan.
00:37She's an amalgamation of different stories,
00:39so I didn't completely go in,
00:41once I'd realised that,
00:42I didn't sort of go into the kind of hard research about her.
00:45You could completely make a film on its own just about her,
00:48because she's an extraordinary character,
00:49you know,
00:50and the fact that she was sort of
00:51one of the most brilliant mathematical minds.
00:53She was the only woman in the room
00:56who was part of this kind of code-breaking team.
00:59I thought it was extraordinary,
01:00and also the struggle that she got to get there.
01:02I mean, the actual struggle
01:03is closer to what feminists are still fighting today,
01:06which is equal pay, you know,
01:07because actually she was doing exactly the same job
01:09as all of the men,
01:10but for a fraction of the pay.
01:14I think particularly people who've had to struggle so much
01:17in order to get noticed
01:19and are largely forgotten by history,
01:21you know,
01:22in their achievements largely forgotten,
01:24their existence largely forgotten,
01:25and I think it's always extraordinary
01:27when you find one
01:28and you kind of go,
01:28gosh, you know,
01:29this should be out there,
01:30people should know about her,
01:32she should be
01:33a great kind of hero
01:34in her own right.
01:36It always feels nice
01:38to be able to sort of bring those stories to the light.
