00:21The process of climbing Everest involves walking into Everest Base Camp, and that takes almost two weeks.
00:28Meanwhile, all of the supplies get taken into Base Camp by yaks and porters.
00:33Maybe five tons of equipment required to do an expedition like that, food and fuel,
00:38and a group of Sherpas who are there climbing, carrying loads. So it becomes quite a big team.
00:46All of the Sherpas that accompanied us on the work in Nepal all come from what's called the Lower Khumbu
00:52region.
00:53Essentially, it's a farming community at around 9,800 feet.

01:13In many ways, if the mountain belongs to anybody, it belongs to them.
01:16And that they are very much part of Everest and the mythology of Everest and indeed the climbing of Everest.
01:24And they're the unsung heroes, basically, because they're doing the heavy lift.
01:27So we made the decision to get a core group of Sherpas and to take that not only would we
01:33use them on the mountain,
01:34but we'd also bring them to all of the other places that we were shooting the movie.
01:37A lot of their work up there is fixing ropes and carrying loads to provision all of the camps to
01:46support the needs and demands of the clients who are being guided.
01:52So to think that a Sherpa has left base camp 5,400 meters and reached the summit of Everest 8
01:58,848 meters in under 10 hours is just something that boggles the mind.
02:05And it's absolutely brutal work that only a Sherpa can do.
