00:04I play Monsieur, he's known as Monsieur, and he is the King's brother, he's the Duke Orléans, he has very
00:11high standing in the court because he's the King's brother, he was a noted homosexual and also a noted warrior,
00:17like a very brave warrior, and led which battle I can't remember, but a number of them, but one of
00:23them particularly bravely and successfully.
00:24He had some children, he had a couple of wives, but he also had his male lovers and girlfriends, and
00:31as did they all, I think, for the most part.
00:33He was very flamboyant, certainly in his dress, in fact, there's a story that he ended up going to a
00:38big party, a big event, dressed as a shepherdess.
00:42He was close to a cross-dresser, as you could get.
00:46I think that's why we're all here, because we know and love Alan, and we know what it's like to
00:51put together those labors of love and how long they take.
00:53And if a friend asks you to do something, and you can do it like this, then you do it.
00:59Well, Alan was the catalyst for me, the enticing aspect of this film.
01:05But then he asked me to do it, we've been friends for a number of years, and then I read
01:08the script, I thought the script was fantastic, beautifully written, and the character was really fun.
01:13And I thought, well, here's a great opportunity to work with a friend on a beautiful film.
01:16I'd never done this period before on film, and I loved the character, and I thought, well, here's also another
01:21excuse just to come back to London.
01:22Alan has a very clear vision for the film.
01:24He was a graphic designer years ago, before he became an actor.
01:27He's a very visual person, and I think that that presents itself and is really evident in the way this
01:31film is designed, and the way it's shot, and the fact that he got Alan to shoot it, who's an
01:35extraordinary cinematographer.
01:37And he knows the script inside and out, so he can always tell you things, remind you of things that
01:41you might not remember or never saw were there.
01:46Kate's a great actress, you know, I mean, it's plain and simple.
01:49She's very smart, she has a great sense of humor, she doesn't take herself too seriously, but she works very,
01:54very hard.
01:55I only knew her socially just a little bit, and we had friends in common, but I was very excited
01:58to be able to work with her, even for a short period of time.
02:01She's great, she's great, she's a real pro, and she knows what she wants to do, and she does it
02:06beautifully.
02:08I think that people will get what I got from reading the script, which is a really beautifully told story,
02:14unusual, emotionally intriguing, and kind of heart-wrenching.
02:18But also, I just think the fact that it takes place in this world is really exciting for people to
02:23watch, and we know that people love to watch period dramas when they're done well, and I think this is
02:27one of those.
