00:06Now this particular variant is the AX7L 4x4 diesel which is the top of the line and this is the
00:11automatic variant.
00:12If you talk about pricing around 27 lakh is what this will set you back at showroom.
00:17It's got a lot of features, it's got a lot of technology as well and in today's video I'm going
00:22to tell you what exactly we like about this Thar Rocks
00:25and what could have been better because we've been driving it for a couple of days now and I think
00:30there are a few things that I need to point out.
00:32Few things are fantastic, a few things could have been better.
00:35Let's quickly start this video and tell you everything you need to know about this SUV.
00:42So let's start off with the front end. Before that, that is the key of the vehicle.
00:45Well you have a flip key right over here but it has a push button start so you don't need
00:49to use the key.
00:50Just need to unlock it. Those are the headlights.
00:53DRLs right over there, you have LED headlights, LED fog lamps and you have LED indicators as well.
00:59Well in the 3 door, this thing is the DRL but in the 5 door you have the DRLs right
01:03over here.
01:04You have the Mahindra badging.
01:06A front parking camera, basically it gets a 360 degree camera.
01:09You get front sensors over here.
01:11Apart from that, the thing I like about is the ruggedness.
01:14The hood has to be open from inside then you have to unlock these latches.
01:19Overall, the front end design actually looks good.
01:22But if you move to the side over here, it could have been a little better.
01:27Well this is the top of the line variant.
01:28So this has these 19 inch wheels.
01:31The design of the wheel could have been slightly better.
01:34The regular Thar, the 3 door, the 7XO and the other variants, they get decent alloy wheels.
01:39They are not bad but they could have been better.
01:43This rock's name and the badge could have been at the rear is what I feel.
01:49Then you have the Thar badging over here, it's a good thing.
01:51Camera right over here.
01:53Now if you see the side profile of the car, well you will notice that this section is kind of
02:00looks okay.
02:01You have some Easter eggs that are right over here, here, lot of Easter eggs all over.
02:05But yes, the design could have been a little better from the rear section.
02:10People definitely go and cover this up so that this thing looks kind of complete.
02:15Well, the door, the good thing about the door is that it opens all the way to 90 degree as
02:21you can see over here.
02:22So getting in and out should not be a problem.
02:25Well, coming to the rear section, again it is exactly like the 3 door Thar.
02:31Well, obviously you have a different setup for the camera which is right over here in the alloy wheel.
02:37So basically if you have to take the wheel out, you have to unscrew this, take this entire thing out,
02:43then the wheel comes out.
02:44It's kind of a hassle is what I feel.
02:46They could have mounted the camera somewhere else or maybe they should have done it in such a way that
02:51this should not have been an obstruction while you're taking the wheel out.
02:56Again, you have physical keys right over here to open the boot.
02:59But it's a two-step process, this and then the glass.
03:04Boot space is pretty adequate now because of the setup, the long wheelbase setup.
03:11And there you have your Arm & Kardon surround sound system.
03:18So to close the boot, obviously you have to first close the glass and then close this.
03:25Simple technique, not, but I think they should have done something a little better on the rear section.
03:31This is the tail light.
03:33Again, it's a good tail light.
03:35It's a full LED cluster.
03:36You have the 4x4 badging right over here.
03:39And now let us quickly move on to the inside.
03:41Now, on the inside, as you can see, it gets a massive panoramic sunroof.
03:44So the panoramic sunroof is a big one, but it kind of starts off a little behind.
03:49I will just show it to you that from the front.
03:50One thing that I really don't like about this and sorry for that, the car is a little dirty.
03:55We have tried to clean it is the beige interior.
03:57As you can see over here on the roof, everywhere.
04:01I mean, this is not an interior color that you give for an off-roader, especially a hardcore
04:07off-roader.
04:08That's a 4x4.
04:08You have adjustable headrest for these two, but this center headrest is not adjustable.
04:15You have speakers all over.
04:18So you have a good system.
04:20You have speakers there, here.
04:22Then you have this AC vent, Type-C charging socket, an armrest, the two cup holders, a
04:29good thing.
04:31Well, you have soft touch materials on the door, contrast stitching, and you have some
04:36amount of chrome.
04:36Now, let's go to the front end.
04:38And I forgot you get a grab handle on all four corners.
04:43So it's easy for you to get in and out.
04:46Now, just look at the condition of this seat.
04:49I mean, I literally had to wipe it down.
04:51I know it just needs a lot of detailing, but you can just see that how dirty the beige
04:56interior kind of gets.
04:58Just look at these marks.
05:00I mean, if you clean it also, it'll come on because obviously it's an off-roader and you
05:06do not get this.
05:07Just look at the condition of the seat.
05:08This is the original color.
05:10And just look at this.
05:11So again, a big no-no.
05:12Obviously, they have come out with a mocha brown interior color that is much more suited
05:17for this kind of a variant.
05:20Physical buttons all over.
05:21It's a very good thing.
05:22You have an electronic opening for the boot.
05:24This is your intelligent turning lock button.
05:28So basically what it does is if you're on 4x4 and if you want to take a turn really quickly,
05:33you press this button.
05:35The wheels on either sides will lock and your car will just take a turn on the spot.
05:41Sort of like a tank turn, but not exactly a tank turn.
05:43That's your automatic gearbox, your car holders, automatic, your auto hold, park brake, that's
05:51your 4x4.
05:52Again, a lot of buttons right over here from your diff lock to your ventilated seats and
05:59those are for your moats.
06:01Well, I'll come back to that a little later.
06:04So that is how the front end looks here.
06:06And that is what I was talking about.
06:07The sunroof kind of starts from a little behind so the front passengers don't get a clear view.
06:12As you can see over here, there's a lot of gap right away.
06:14If you could start from here, that would have been better.
06:16But the rear passengers should not have a problem.
06:18As you can see, a lot of light and airiness in the cabin.
06:23And if I just quickly hop onto the inside, close the door, that is how the dashboard layout looks
06:31like.
06:32Okay, so let me come to this.
06:33So this is basically your terrain mode.
06:36It does not get driving mode.
06:37That is your zip zap zoom.
06:38So you have normal snow, mud, sand, whatever you want to choose from.
06:43Take some time.
06:44It's kind of loading.
06:46I mean, people have said that this infotainment system hangs a lot and it has a lot of problem,
06:51but I don't think so.
06:52I have not faced any issues as far as this may be hanging or maybe switching off.
06:59I don't know.
07:00I don't have a problem.
07:00That's the cluster.
07:01You have a lot of information from the cluster as well.
07:04Full little cluster.
07:05You have some thing like a carbon fiber element over here, over here.
07:09It's not carbon fiber.
07:10It just looks like you have soft earth materials all over.
07:13Soft earth material on the door as well.
07:15That is your controls for your window, child lock, your ORVMs.
07:21ORVMs are automatically folding and adjusting.
07:24That's there.
07:25Then you have a light for your vanity mirror and the driver also gets it, which is actually
07:33a very good thing.
07:34Usually the passenger gets it and the driver does not get what this has.
07:37Now, to open and close the shade, you have two separate buttons.
07:41This is to close it.
07:41This is to open it.
07:42And this is to open the sunroof.
07:45This thing, it's a massive sunroof and it opens up too much.
07:49Other than that, again, some tactile buttons over here, some single-zone climate control.
07:57There you go.
07:57Let me just go into the menu right from here.
07:59That is your climate control menu right over there.
08:03Android Auto Apple CarPlay, it says right over here.
08:05So that should not be a problem.
08:06You have an auto-dimming IRVM that is basically bezel-less.
08:10Looks very premium.
08:11As you can see, there is no bezel-on whatsoever.
08:15So, I mean, these things are nice.
08:18Paddle shifters are missing.
08:19That could have been there.
08:21That is for your lights.
08:23These are, the stock is for your wipers.
08:26And you have an automatic wiping mode as well.
08:29Right over here, you have auto, obviously, auto headlamps.
08:33And yeah, that's about it.
08:34That's the interior.
08:36Now, you get wireless charger right over here.
08:38Apart from that, you get a 65-volt Type-C charging, a Type-A charging as well.
08:44And if you want to switch off the passenger airbag, obviously, this will show it all.
08:48But, I mean, this is on and off.
08:49But these are not, there are buttons, but they do not work.
08:54So, you also have an armrest right over here that the driver's side can slide forward and backward.
09:00It opens up and, obviously, you have some storage space.
09:02If you talk about storage space, this is the amount of storage space you get over here.
09:05Now, storage space on the bottle holders is very, very less.
09:09A half-liter bottle can squeeze in.
09:11A one-liter bottle has to be, like, literally pushed in.
09:13But at the rear section, you do not get that.
09:16As you can see over here, you just cannot fit a bottle.
09:20So, these are a few things that the company should have taken care of.
09:24Other than that, it's a good car.
09:25Now, let's quickly drive it and tell you how exactly is this diesel automatic to drive.
09:34Okay, so, let us put it in gear and let us drive off.
09:40Now, let me tell you a few things about the engine.
09:43So, this obviously comes in a petrol variant and a diesel variant.
09:46But the diesel variant only gets the 4x4.
09:49The petrol variant does not get the 4x4.
09:51So, if we talk about the engine, this is a 2.2-liter M-Hawk engine that produces 172 BHP
09:56and 370 Nm of peak torque.
10:00This gearbox, it's a torque converter gearbox.
10:02And this is a very, very nice gearbox.
10:05Trust me, this gearbox is just fantastic.
10:07I mean, it's one of the greatest gearbox that I have liked as far as torque converter.
10:11The shifts do not have lags in between.
10:14But, yes, one thing that definitely has a lag is the tachometer because when you are flooring the car, gear
10:22has already changed.
10:23But still, you can see the tachometer rise and I think there is a lag in that.
10:27Overall, it is a very, very good machine.
10:31I would say it's very punchy.
10:33It's very talky.
10:34About 0 to 100 comes in and about 11, 11 and a half seconds, which is, again, a very good
10:39thing.
10:41You also have these kind of terrain modes that I showed you.
10:45But the terrain mode is basically it alters with your traction control system.
10:49One good thing is that that I like about it is when you give an indicator, you have a blind
10:53spot monitoring, as you can see right over here.
10:56So, this is kind of right in the center.
10:58It does not come on either side of the cluster or the tachometer.
11:02I mean, the speedometer, the tachometer, like the other cars, like, for example, the Creta or maybe the cars of
11:08Kia, they also have the same thing.
11:10But the moment you take a left, it is on the left hand of the cluster.
11:14The moment you take a right, it's on the right hand of the cluster.
11:16So, that thing is a good thing because now you're not, the view is not obstructed.
11:20You know that what kind of speeds you are doing.
11:22You know what gear you are in.
11:23And you obviously can also see the blind spot monitoring very, very clearly.
11:28It's a very good system, I would say.
11:31It's a very thoughtful process that they have done.
11:34If you talk about the suspension of the car, the suspension is great for a car this size.
11:41It is pretty decent.
11:42It obviously has a roll.
11:43It is an off-roader, so it will have.
11:45But it is kind of decently contained, I would say.
11:48It's not like the three-door Thar has definitely like a much more body roll than the five-door Thar.
11:54But the five-door Thar, since the suspension setup is somewhat of the Scorpio N.
12:00So, it has kind of the same kind of setup.
12:02So, because of that setup, this thing actually performs really well on-road as well.
12:07If you have some uneven terrain, you will definitely feel the roll.
12:12But it is not as much as you can feel it on the three-door Thar.
12:17Well, apart from that, the engine is pretty punchy.
12:20I would say the steering wheel is so light.
12:22What I'll do is, I'll just take a U-turn from here.
12:25Just see, with one hand, I will just take a U-turn.
12:29There you go.
12:30If you can just notice.
12:35It is an electronic steering wheel.
12:38Just see, with one hand, you can just move around from here and there.
12:42I mean, it's so easy, right?
12:44It is just so easy.
12:46It's an electronic steering wheel, not a hydraulic steering wheel.
12:49So, obviously, it is very, very light.
12:51If I will just demonstrate once again, I'll take a kind of a U-turn.
12:55And I will show you how easy for, how easy is it for the Thar rocks to take a U
13:03-turn with just one hand.
13:04Okay.
13:05So, here we go.
13:06Some bikes are coming.
13:08Let them go by.
13:10And here we go.
13:12So, there you go.
13:14I can go forward, but just have a look at this.
13:21Effortless.
13:22It's just completely effortless.
13:25It's such a light steering wheel.
13:27Obviously, it weighs up a little bit when you are at higher speeds.
13:30But it does not have a particular, like, driving mode.
13:33Like, you put it on sport.
13:34It becomes hard.
13:34It does not have that.
13:36Braking is also nice.
13:37It's spot on.
13:38Actually, the SUV stops right at place for a car this size.
13:42It has got a very good braking.
13:44I must say.
13:45All four discs work phenomenously.
13:47But what happens is that when you brake hard, you have a nosedive.
13:50I'll just show that to you.
13:52So, here you can see.
13:53When you brake.
13:57It has that kind of nosediving.
14:00But it definitely stops.
14:02And I've seen people upgrade the suspension on the Thar, upgrade the springs on the Thar.
14:06And I think after that, the car feels much more in control.
14:11But right now, also in the stock form, I am just liking the way it is.
14:17As far as road presence goes, I mean, what can be more better than the Thar, right?
14:22It's a big car.
14:23Now, it's become even longer.
14:25And obviously, you have...
14:27I mean, you can...
14:28I've seen people bully around, I mean, that's what the Thar is all about.
14:33So, it's a good car.
14:36So, it's a good car, I would say.
15:03It's a bit twitchy and the hazard light actually goes on and it goes off after a few seconds.
15:11Just look at the control.
15:13If you want to flick the steering wheel and change lanes, it's so easy.
15:17Just look at this.
15:18I mean, it's so easy.
15:21So, yeah.
15:22Some things on the Thar rocks, really, really nice.
15:25Really loved it.
15:26Some things could have been better like the interiors from factory.
15:32I think a couple of other things that I mentioned, the design of the rear section and the side profile.
15:38And overall, I think they should have given driving modes in this variant as well.
15:44Because it has terrain mode, but driving mode would definitely help.
15:48So, I think the rocks is a very good car.
15:52If you talk about mileage, this is not the best car for mileage.
15:56Because within city, you'll get somewhere between right now, we've been pushing the car, standing around with it.
16:03And we are getting almost like 9 kilometers to a liter.
16:06We've seen a best of about 11.5 to 12.
16:10On the highway, it's about 14.5 to 15 if you put cruise control.
16:14And obviously, this has ADAS as well.
16:16So, right now, I've switched off the automatic emergency braking.
16:20But yes, this has everything from lane keep assist to your emergency braking.
16:26I mean, it has everything that a level 2 ADAS offers.
16:31But the thing about this is the mileage.
16:34So, I think the rear wheel drive makes no sense.
16:36Because most of the people who buy the thar in India, they just buy it for the road presence and
16:40buy it because they want a thar.
16:42Right?
16:42They don't go very hardcore off-roading with it.
16:44So, the rear wheel drive, since it has less weight and since it obviously is a little lighter than the
16:51all-wheel drive one, this one, the 4x4.
16:53So, it definitely gives a little more mileage than this.
16:57So, preferably people who are looking for a thar.
17:00Majorly for the mileage aspect, I would say you can go for the rear wheel drive.
17:05But people who are definitely going to go hardcore off-roading, this is what you need.
17:11The 4x4.
17:13Because this is a really unstoppable machine.
17:15It can just go over anything and climb out.
