00:05The Babadook
00:06The themes of the Babadook that interested me
00:08I'm very fascinated by what happens to people when they don't face things
00:13when they push down on difficulties in themselves
00:16and how does that, where does that go?
00:21So you know, if someone's had a tragic experience
00:23and they don't deal with it
00:26how does it sit in their life?
00:28And I guess the Babadook is an exploration of that idea
00:36told in a very heightened way
00:39So in the case of the Babadook
00:42Amelia presses down on these terrible feelings so much
00:47that they develop an energy and become something that splits off from her
00:51becomes separate from her
00:52and then starts to control her
00:55and what that thing is, who knows?
00:58I know!
01:00I feel, I feel what it is
01:02but it's up to the audience to interpret what that is
01:04whether it's supernatural
01:07or whether it's psychological
01:09is really up to the viewer
01:13but that's the basic idea for me
01:16that's the kernel of the film
01:17but that's the way
01:17we can do it
01:17we can do it
01:17but that's one of the things that we're doing
