01:23is Andy was very, very particular about how much he wanted to show mamma

01:38but he shows her enough that you feel satisfied.
01:42You go, oh my God, that thing is really scary.
01:45But he doesn't show mamma so much that it becomes ineffective.
01:50I think he has a great career ahead of him.
01:54You know, when you find somebody like Andy or Juan Antonio Bayona,
01:58you know, I produce now about close to 20 movies.
02:02And now and then I try to produce a lot of first time directors.
02:07And now and then you go, this guy is the real deal.
02:11You know, this guy is the real deal.
02:18Our biggest victory in mamma is casting Jessica.
02:22We really, really wanted her.
02:24She's the anchor of the film.
02:26Without her, there would be no film.
02:28So, and we really couldn't see anyone else in there.
02:32Jessica's character, Annabelle, is somebody that is fighting very hard not to be domesticated.
02:41Somebody that necessarily, wouldn't necessarily go with becoming a monogamous part of a couple, you know.
02:50And Nikolai is so magnetic, so down to earth, so tangible that you understand why she would settle.
03:03When the horrible is combined with love, it's very compelling and really, really scary.
03:11Because people understand we are not just telling the story of a monster.
03:15We're telling the story of a very human emotion that is now monstrously out of proportion.
03:23When we went to the studio, the first thing I said to them is, look, the poster is very simple.
03:28I said, it's the ghost of mamma with the two girls looking, and the tagline is, a mother's love is
03:34forever.
03:35And I said, and that, that is, at the same time, because it's so sappy, in that context it becomes
03:43really scary.
03:44I don't know if we're going to use that tagline or not, but immediately communicated the horror.
03:49Mama will never give up and never surrender, never let her children go.
03:56So, that's a huge, like the terminator of emotions.
