00:03This is kind of a being reborn again
00:05kind of a movie for me
00:07We're looking for visual tension
00:08Ok, things that pull the frame
00:10Things that force us to imagine what's beyond the frame
00:13The main character is a young filmmaker
00:16who believes in the power of cinema
00:19I mean, there you go
00:22It's me being a kid again
00:24and going back and going
00:25Do I believe in this as magic?
00:31Becca?
00:34What is that?
00:36Night is a filmmaker that we wanted to work with for a long time
00:39That was really close actually, guys
00:41He's so passionate about what he does
00:43and he's just a great storyteller
00:44and you really get to see the storytelling
00:46when all the bells and whistles are taken away
00:48I made a decision that I want to do smaller movies
00:52because I see the potential in the small movie
00:54I love the small characters and the small locations
00:56and all that stuff
00:57I can tell big biblical stories in those little locations
01:01It's 1047
01:02We think there's someone outside the door
01:08What the hell was that?
01:12A lot of people say that 80% of your job as a director is casting
01:15In this movie, the edict was
01:17Let's not have anybody super famous in the movie
01:20I watched and watched and watched and watched the auditions
01:24over and over and over again
01:26And picked these individuals from around the world
01:30to star in this movie
01:31This might be my favorite, perfect constellation of actors
01:35It's as if these people were the people that I wrote
01:44In the visit, Knight explores themes that he explored in his earlier movies
01:49He's going back to really scary things
01:51They're hiding something
01:53It's just the end of your trip
01:55It's the smallest movie I've worked on since becoming a professional
01:59And that's scary
02:01Because there's very little room for error
02:03There's no fallback
02:05It is dangerous for filmmakers to work on low budgets
02:08But by taking away all the excess
02:10It forces you to focus on the character and performance and storytelling
02:14And I think that's why the movie works as well as it does
02:16The more you convey that, the more we're going to root for you, right?
02:20Action!
02:22If you're celebrating the unknown of the whole process
02:25You're hyped and you're fully being activated
02:28That was it
02:29That's when I get excited
02:30I'm doing this because I love the movie
02:32This level of factors really ignites me
02:35It's so rewarding
02:40Would you mind getting inside the oven?
02:44Stop! Nana, stop!
02:46Stop!
02:47Stop!
02:48Stop!
02:49Stop!
02:50Stop!
02:50Stop!
02:51Stop!
02:52Stop!
