When 28-year-old mother Samantha McNorton vanishes without a trace in Wise County, Texas, police hit a dead end until Ranger Jim Holland steps in and launches a 24-hour whirlwind investigation, determined to uncover the truth.
Transcript
00:08I was supposed to go pick her up but she never showed up. Samantha was a mother of three recently
00:15separated. One of the worst experiences I've ever been through. Anytime that you've got a missing
00:20person's case the ultimate goal is to find the missing person alive and well. Their boyfriend's
00:28claiming that he don't know where she's at. But when you ask questions he would start
00:38yelling and degrade you. When you need somebody to go in the box, match wits with the suspects,
00:47Jim Holland is who you want.

01:24Wise County was largely rural, wooded, very conservative, kind of what I would term salt
01:30of the earth for the most part, hard working people. I've lived in this area since I was five
01:37years old. It's always been that way. But at the end of the day, you'll be surprised sometimes
01:45where you find yourself and what you'll find yourself doing. That couldn't be any more true
01:50in this line of work. Last time I talked to my daughter Samantha,
01:59I was supposed to go pick her up. She was texting me on the phone,
02:03saying where to meet her and that, and she would be there at a certain time.
02:08I got there a little bit early, and she never showed up.
02:16Then I just lost contact with her for a little while after that.
02:21It was normal not to hear from her.
02:25But then when she finally texted, I noticed that the texting was different. Samantha
02:32would always make, you know, short answers and then abbreviate everything,
02:36but then they were all starting to be wrote out. And then they just stopped.
02:44And I never heard anything back.
02:49We filed a missing person's report the next day.
03:04We went out handing out flyers any place we could. Decatur, Bridgeport, Chico. There was
03:11flyers going out everywhere. And we were searching in different places, trying to get her located.
03:19I hoped she would come home or she'd call and say,
03:21hey, come get me. Nothing. Samantha was a young lady, 28 years old,
03:31mother of three, recently separated from Paul that she has the children by.
03:39The authorities needed to confirm that the person she was separated from was ruled out as suspect.
03:47The timeline is very important. I mean, that's one of the first steps we do. Paul was at the very
03:52end of the timeline. They did mention searching my property.
04:05I said, fine, let's search it together.
04:11I met Samantha because I worked with her mom and dad. Her dad installed swimming pools. She
04:18started coming to the jobs with us. She was a hard worker. She's beautiful, always has been.
04:25Funny, always cutting jokes and pulling pranks on people.
04:29Samantha would prank anybody, shoving them in the swimming pool.
04:34You damn it, she would do it. And she could throw a punch.
04:40We loved each other very much. It was my first love, hers too. We spent every day together at work,
04:49love letters all day long. I have a box of love letters at home.
04:55We had three kids together. Life was great. Love and laughter and fun all the time.
05:05Samantha and Paul got together really young and then later on they just kind of grew apart.
05:15One night at our house she met David. I knew the Malone family from the truck stop. They were
05:21truckers. She started dating him after that night. He seemed really nice. He would bring her home
05:28flowers and take her places and seemed like a really nice guy. And then shortly after they got
05:35together Samantha moved in with them. When I found out that David Malone was Samantha's boyfriend,
05:47I was concerned. I've had dealings with David Malone in the past. David did have a criminal history of
05:54violence against women. David and Samantha, they was together for about four months before she did become
06:02missing. It wasn't too long into the relationship that I noticed things wrong. Samantha came home with
06:12marks around her neck and she said it was from rough sex. And I was like, no, that's not. But
06:20that's what
06:20she kept on saying every time. My first encounter with David Malone was going to get my kids.
06:30Immediately you could tell someone's jealous or think something's going on, even if absolutely there
06:35was nothing going on like that. During the time they actually lived
06:50together. David wanted her to stay there at the house all the time. He wanted his control over her.
07:07She called me and said, I need you to come get me, please.
07:13Went to Springtown, picked her up, took her to my house, the house we were raising our kids in.
07:19She read to Courtney, they ate pizza together. She said, somebody's coming to pick me up.
07:25I said, it better not be. It's not, it's not. And then she said,
07:31if I don't ever see you again, I love you.
07:48Samantha reported in Parker County that she was sexually assaulted by David Malone.
07:56She went to the hospital and they did a rape kid on her. She pressed charges.
08:02CBS was called and I got emergency custody of the kids. Thank God, you know, the system don't always work.
08:13She had been beaten and raped several times and picked up by her brother. I was trying to make
08:19sure she left David this time, but she was her own person. There was nothing I could do.
08:34I don't know how many times I called her for the next couple of days.
08:39I continuously blew her phone up. I started getting on the phone to other people and telling them
08:44something's wrong. And her mom agreed with me. Nobody's heard from me to write some song.
09:00Any time that you've got a missing person's case, the ultimate goal is to find the missing person
09:06and hopefully find them alive and well. We had searched many areas that we knew Malone was connected to.
09:13And eventually the warrant guys located him at that time. Malone actually had a warrant for his arrest
09:19for sexual assault. It was a traffic stop. He was arrested for the outstanding warrant.
09:27I was hoping that they would find him and she would be there.
09:35But she's not with him. I'm like, we gotta find her.
09:44David Malone was transported back to Parker County.
09:48After finding David, you know, we're hoping that we're going to find Samantha.
09:53I go down there and interview him. As long as you let him talk, he's fine.
09:58But when you start wanting to ask questions, it kind of changes. He would get upset.
10:04He would start yelling and trying to degrade you.
10:09He didn't seem really concerned about Samantha. I mean, he's only wanting you to believe
10:16what he wants you to believe. But as far as any kind of details, no.
10:26In any situation where you need somebody to go in the box and match wits with the suspect,
10:36Jim Holland is who you want. He's just better at it than everybody else.
10:43So get your ass down here and come take care of it.
10:54A North Texas mother of three young children disappears. There's no sign for two weeks as
10:59her family waits, wonders, and hopes. This hits the news and it just blows up.
11:07A North Texas mother of three young children disappears.
11:12Wise County Sheriff's Department gets the idea that Samantha McNaughton's boyfriend,
11:16David Malone, is going to be a special dude. And if he did this or if he had anything to
11:21do with it,
11:22then, you know, maybe I can get him to talk.
11:27There's always a chance that Samantha McNaughton's alive. And we're hopeful.
11:32We're hopeful. But there's a clock. And it's ticking. That's a lot of pressure on me.
11:39But moments like this are why I became a Ranger.
11:53James B. Helen with the Texas Rangers. Time is now 7.43 p.m. Sir, could you say your full
12:02name, please?
12:03David Wayne Malone.
12:05I know when I get into the box with David Malone, the only way I'm going to get the truth
12:09out of him
12:10is to be patient and listen to the story he wants to tell. I need him to trust me.
12:17You've known Samantha for Helen?
12:19I've known Samantha since June this year.
12:23So like four or five months?
12:24Like four or five months.
12:25Okay. And you're a boyfriend and girlfriend?
12:27We're boyfriend and girlfriend.
12:29Okay. And in the course of this four to five months, I guess you're living with Samantha. Is that correct?
12:34That's correct.
12:35Is there anyone else living with you?
12:37It means Samantha and her kids.
12:39Okay. And does Samantha have a job?
12:41She worked part-time.
12:43Okay. But you were the-
12:44Yes, she only worked part-time.
12:46You're basically supporting Samantha and her kids?
12:48Yes.
12:49I start off the interrogation by building him up, by letting him understand that I recognize that,
12:57you know, he's a hardworking person, that he's been supporting this girl, that he's been supporting her children.
13:05Describe your relationship as a good relationship.
13:07Yeah, our relationship was a good relationship. It was loving. We cared for each other quite a whole lot.
13:13And it was kind of rocky, but you know what a good relationship isn't.
13:18Prior to this recorded statement, we talked about how you're being bothered by some things. Is that correct?
13:22That's correct.
13:34I was driving, and around 7 o'clock at night, I get this call from a captain at Wise County
13:40Sheriff's Department.
13:41And he said, I need you. This girl's missing, and I need you to go to Parker County and interview
13:47this dude.
13:50So I reached out to Tony Bradford, who was a ranger in Parker County.
13:55Jim primarily needed my help because he wanted a Robin to his Batman, so to speak.
14:02I've known Jim since 2007.
14:04He can be the most arrogant, cocksure person you've ever met, but then he's also very down to earth,
14:11and he's able to relate to a whole spectrum of people. He's as good as gold in my book.
14:19Parker County Sheriff's Department tells me right away that Malone was hungry.
14:24So I grabbed some fast food for David Malone and myself, and the idea is break bread and build some
14:31type of rapport.
14:36I'm not going to lie.
14:36They said the Texas Rangers had come in.
14:39When you know they're coming, you know things are fixing to be set right.
14:45They are a special group of people.
14:48I said it to myself, they would find out where Samantha's at.
15:13So I introduced myself to David Malone, and we sit there and we eat hamburgers and just kind of get
15:19to know each other a little bit.
15:23Everyone this guy has talked to has immediately jumped him about Samantha McNaughton.
15:30I felt like that was not the place I needed to go.
15:36He basically just says as we're eating that he dated Samantha McNaughton, but he didn't have anything to do with
15:43her disappearance.
15:44He says the last time he saw her, he had dropped her off at a convenience store, and they had
15:50kind of reconciled a friendship.
15:52And he agreed to take us there, myself and Ranger Bradford.
15:58Thought process was that in the vehicle, we can get him talking and begin this opportunity of communication.
16:12Almost immediately, Malone says, I didn't sexually assault her.
16:16He really seemed to concentrate on this aggravated sexual assault.
16:22And then he starts talking about how Samantha McNaughton was cheating on him.
16:27We opened up the conversation and kind of talking about, you know, yeah, I've been there before and trying to
16:33empathize with him.
16:34And I pull on Ranger Bradford.
16:38If I remember right, I made up some bullshit about some old gal that cheated on me in college or
16:44when I was in the army or something like that.
16:46You know, letting them know, hey, yeah, I get it.
16:49You know, you're right.
16:50They can break your heart and you can't trust them and all that.
16:55Malone is really buying into this.
16:57This underlying theme just really pops out that this is all about guys being done wrong by their cheating girlfriend.
17:06The more we talk about the cheating, the more and more anger that you start seeing in this.
17:13It didn't take long to draw a beat on him personality wise.
17:18It's obvious he had a problem with women.
17:21He likes to hear the fact that we both had issues with women.
17:26And so you create this character, I guess, that would be someone that if they're going to share their, you
17:33know, innermost secrets that they would open up and share them with.
17:42We get to the convenience store, Malone says, you know, this is where I left her off.
17:47And he says, we sat down and we talked and we worked everything out.
17:51I left and that was it.
17:54It didn't make any sense to me.
17:56I mean, as we're driving, he's mad, he's cussing at her, he's calling her all these horrible names.
18:03And then all of a sudden he changes to, but we talked and we were friends and she was going
18:09to go be with her boyfriend.
18:11I left and that was it.
18:16Based on this immediate 180 and complete change in persona, there was no doubt in my mind that he was
18:25lying.
18:27Of course, I start pointing out video cameras in the parking lot.
18:31I told him, you know, this is your problem.
18:34That's not going to be on video.
18:38But he basically says, well, I don't know what to say other than that's what happened.
18:44So then it's, all right, well, let's pivot.
18:46Where did you go next?
18:48And he said, well, I went to my dad's house in Runaway Bay.
18:56So the thought process was, let's keep talking.
18:58Let's keep driving.
19:00The longer that he talks to us, the more likely he is to shoot himself in the foot.
19:05The more you can keep them talking, the more rope you give them to hang yourself with.
19:12We start driving.
19:16Malone really, really starts opening up.
19:19You know, how horrible, how angry and mad and upset he was getting because she was cheating on him.
19:30We arrive at Malone's father's residence.
19:35And I basically tell Malone, man, look, we haven't seen this girl for 11 days.
19:43And it's looking more and more like she's not alive.
19:48And I said, you know, David, if this is a crime of passion, you need to tell us,
19:53because that's different than premeditated murder.
19:56And he asked to smoke a cigarette.
20:04And so we step out into this grass area right in front of the lake with a bunch of trees
20:09and stuff around.
20:11You see the anger in his eyes.
20:15This isn't a feigned anger.
20:17I mean, if there's anything that's clear at this point, he hates this woman.
20:22He just turns around.
20:24I feel like this could be the moment.
20:28He finally says, I need to think about this overnight.
20:33I knew not to push him any farther.
20:36Because I think if I would have continued to push him, he would have shut down.
20:41It's a roller coaster of emotion, but at the end of the day, it's up to them.
20:46It's not up to you.
20:49So we ended up taking him back to Parker County and putting him back in the jail.
21:09The next day, I head back up there with Ranger Bradford.
21:13There was some strategy talk about how we're going to approach it.
21:17Jim even told me, I'm going to bear down on him a little bit, bring a little more pressure today.
21:24We meet with Malone, and he goes, I want to take you somewhere and show you something.
21:30I mean, what do we have to lose?
21:35The first day, you know, we get the chisel in, but I felt like the second day, one of my
21:40goals
21:40was to really hammer him into a story and really lock him in.
21:47In a situation like this, you're kind of up to bat.
21:52You're either going to knock in the win and run, or you're going to lose the game.
21:59Malone said that he was going to take us to his grandmother's house, that Samantha
22:03McNorton's glasses were there.
22:08We pull down this road into, I guess what would best be described as a compound.
22:15And as soon as I pull in there, I get this bad feeling.
22:22We stop and get out, and he's going to show me where these glasses are.
22:26And all of a sudden, men start coming out of the house.
22:29You know, one, two, three, four, I don't remember how many.
22:34The house just starts emptying out with hillbillies.
22:37And we're, nobody knows we're out here with this son of a bitch, okay?
22:42That's what had my ass tight enough you couldn't shove a marble in it.
22:50That's what had my ass tight enough you couldn't shove a marble in it.
23:13Myself and Ranger Bradford, we're in a bad spot.
23:18This is the Malone family compound.
23:23It hits me.
23:24I remember the location because I had been out there to this 20 to 40 acre piece of property
23:30that actually has tunnels and caves in it.
23:33About a year before helping the DEA serve a warrant on the property.
23:38There were several individuals that lived out at that location that had pretty serious criminal histories.
23:44You know, I felt like at any minute a shootout could occur.
23:53Ranger Bradford quickly disappears behind my truck.
23:59I'm out there getting this 308 out and putting it on the tailgate.
24:02I was afraid we were gonna end up getting in a banjo rifle shootout out there.
24:11I'm stuck out on the other side of the truck with Malone and his family.
24:18And they bring him out some tea and everyone's drinking tea.
24:21It's almost like we're, you know, we're having a family get together, a family social.
24:29I really felt like things were gonna go south.
24:32And I started coming up with ways to defuse it.
24:36I said, you know, David's made a rough decision.
24:40He's decided to help us and we're actually here to help him.
24:44And that seemed to kind of settle them down.
24:47I basically thanked them for their time and grabbed Malone and escorted him back to my truck
24:52as Tony's taking cover on both of us.
24:57And we pull out of there, happy to be alive, happy not to have been in a shootout.
25:06We start driving down the road again and Malone said, I want to go to my mom's house.
25:14I literally locked up on the brakes in the middle of the highway.
25:17I said, man, I'm not your taxi service.
25:19We know this occurred and now it's time to tell us what happened.
25:27It was awful because you didn't know where he put her.
25:29There was so many places he could have put her.
25:34It's one of the worst experiences I've ever been through.
25:39A lot of staring out the windows.
25:42I seen her in a dream and something was wrong.
25:47I was trying to get to her and I couldn't get to her.
25:50It was cold, getting cold.
25:52And I'm like, we got to find her.
25:54She's cold.
26:03I had keyed in on the fact that for Malone,
26:06it was just sticking in his craw that he was being charged with sexual assault.
26:10It was cold.
26:11That morning, I discussed my idea with Jim about calling the DA to write this letter out that if
26:18he cooperates in the disappearance of Samantha, this sexual assault charge will be dropped.
26:25Jim said, yeah.
26:26He said, that sounds good.
26:26Go for it.
26:28I said, David, I feel like you're not giving us information because you do have issues with
26:33the sexual assault.
26:35So we got this letter from the district attorney and he seemed to really, really appreciate that.
26:42I remember it seemed like it was instantaneous where he looked at Jim and he said, all right, let's go
26:47inside.
26:58It's time to really put the screws to David Malone.
27:03The juggle was I wanted the confession, but I really needed the body.
27:09The only way I'm going to get his help on the body is if I hold his hand during that
27:14confession.
27:17And he at least believes that I'm trying to help him out.
27:22I've got all the confidence in the world in Jim.
27:25There's nobody I'd rather have in there, but I'm a born pessimist.
27:30There's still that in the back of your mind.
27:32It's thinking, what if he gets in there and then Malone just decides to give the big finger
27:37to everything and be like, take me back to jail.
27:44At a certain point in this relationship, did you start wondering if she's having these,
27:50I guess, sexual relations with other people?
27:52Yes.
27:53Why do you start thinking that?
27:55Because she'd be gone for hours and the way that her attitude was and everything,
28:01it showed all the signs of her having sexual relations with other people.
28:06So, going into the interview, I felt like if I could put him in this painful place again,
28:12I could really drive him into the truth. And if he felt like he had accurately portrayed why
28:20her murder was ultimately justified, then we wouldn't have any issues in him leading us to the body.
28:38David Malone was convinced that his girlfriend, Samantha McNaughton, was cheating on him the
28:44entirety of their relationship. The question is what exactly happened the day she disappeared that
28:51escalated things?
28:58So, let's go to around, I guess, November 5th. Do you remember that day?
29:03Yes, I remember that day clearly. We got up and I was waiting on my boss to call me to
29:09go to work.
29:09Okay, and who's your boss?
29:10The guy I was working for at the time was Justin and Samantha came to work with me that day.
29:16Okay, and has anything strange or peculiar happened that day?
29:18Yes, we're working. You know, Samantha's helping me run the plumbing and everything in the attic.
29:25I see that Justin and Samantha are kind of messing around. It was dark. We're cleaning the stuff up.
29:35I'm standing in front of Samantha and Justin's behind her. And he bends down to act like he's getting
29:40parts and Samantha shines a light in my eyes, so I couldn't see what they were doing.
29:45As Malone describes everything specifically, what happened on November 5th at his job site,
29:53you see the anger really start setting in.
29:57But he's behind her.
29:58Yes, he's behind her.
30:00So, what do you think's going on?
30:04I think what was going on is she was grabbing on her and messing with the rear end or whatever.
30:11It's interesting because Malone never says that he actually sees anything. He just believed from
30:16seeing his boss behind his girlfriend that, you know, she'd done something wrong. And obviously that
30:23doesn't make any sense. And it was just bizarre. But there's no doubt in his mind that she's cheating on
30:31him. So what happens next? I get upset and I tell her to go to the truck. I go back
30:40and confront
30:41Justin about it. He denies it. And he says that she had been shining a light in his eyes all
30:45night.
30:46He gets in his truck and he leaves. And I get in my truck and I leave.
30:49Okay. You leave with Samantha?
30:51Yes. Me and Samantha are in my truck and we leave. And we go to the house. We go there
30:56and I notice
30:57that the curtain's pulled down and somebody had broken into my house.
31:02Okay. And then what happens?
31:04I go into the house. Somebody had just broke in and for what reason I still don't know.
31:09Okay.
31:10Did that happen? Probably not.
31:14These are things that he developed in his own mind based on this paranoid psychosis.
31:19That he was living in. And it's the same paranoia that convinced him that his boss was having
31:24sexual relations with Samantha. And so I get, you know, a few of my things, my clothes, and
31:33me and Samantha leave. Okay. And where do you go?
31:37I'm just basically driving around to find somewhere so we can sleep until we wake up in the morning and
31:41figure out what we're going to do. I don't know the actual road name or anything, but we turn off
31:48on
31:48on the dirt road off of that highway that goes toward Bridgeport. Okay.
31:53And when we're going down there, you know, I'm trying to talk to Samantha about what's going on.
31:57And I told her that I'm tired of her lying to me. And I told her that she needed to
32:00tell me the truth.
32:02I wanted to really get his emotion on video of how much this alleged cheating affected him and how
32:12much anger there was. And, and you could see that.
32:18When we eventually get to where we're going, we pull off the road and I'm looking over at her and
32:24this is starting to get serious. And I'll grab Samantha by the hair
32:30and I'll put her in my head in my lap and I'm asking her to tell me the truth, to
32:36tell me everything.
32:38His paranoid psychosis has convinced him that she's having relationships and he wants to take
32:44complete and total control of her at this time.
32:48The reality is, is this poor young lady as a madman holding her down in the middle of nowhere.
32:54And the truth doesn't matter.
33:00She had been cheating on me and I was tired of it and I was fed up and I wanted
33:04to know the truth.
33:06And while we're sitting there, I feel this out of body experience of like, this is the reason why
33:13I was put on the earth to, to be there that night with Samantha. And I feel like Lucifer's with
33:20us there.
33:23I can't think of a single time that I've been interviewing someone about a murder and they
33:29started telling me about how Lucifer appeared to them. I pull out my pocket now and I put it to
33:35her
33:35back and I tell her to tell me the truth. And she starts telling me about the guys that she's
33:43been with
33:44and she goes into gory details. Basically just trying to hurt me in my head.
33:51Basically what he did was interrogated her about all the times that she's cheated on him.
33:56Is there any truth to this? No. Sam wasn't like that. She was faithful.
34:03She had a pure heart. She wasn't a party person. She was a faithful person to whoever she was with.
34:11But Malone, he is convinced that something was going on. And so we have a poor woman who's
34:19being held down by her hair, who's got a knife shoved into her back. And he was doing what she
34:24can to save her life. So basically she's saying when you're going off to work and busting your ass.
34:31Yes.
34:32Then while you're gone, she's sleeping with other men.
34:34That's correct.
34:37This interrogation's a tightrope because as Malone's going through what he did to Samantha,
34:45I'm sickened by it. But I know if I let it in for a second, I'm going to be thinking
34:50about what I
34:51want to do to David Malone. And that doesn't do any good. I don't want Malone to think that I'm
34:57judging
34:57him in a negative way because I want him to lead me to her body.
35:18I've been talking to David Malone for two days. He begins telling me how he grabbed Samantha
35:25McNaughton by her hair and pulled her into his lap and began forcing her to answer his questions.
35:34I can't imagine what Samantha went through. She had to be wondering if she was ever going to get
35:41out of this alive.
35:47I've got the knife and it's in her back and she starts screaming and fighting. She grabs the knife
35:54and we're resting around in the front of the truck and she goes over to the passenger side
36:01and somehow the door opens and we both fall out. And I put my hands around her throat and I
36:09basically
36:09choke her to death.
36:18I think ultimately Samantha knows that she's going to die. She tries to fight him off and Malone is able
36:27to
36:27immediately grab her and to suffocate her to death. I can't imagine how horrible that was.
36:35And there's this presence with us and I turn around and I see this dark shadowy figure like
36:45someone standing there like the Grand Reaper. And I feel the presence and it's just like a chill all
36:51the way down inside my body from inside the depths of the most eternal depths of my body. I feel
36:55this
36:56presence there and I tell her that she's here. You tell Samantha that he's here? Yes. And you mean the
37:04Grim Ranger? Yes. That devil.
37:11I've worked a lot of murders, a lot of murders.
37:16I think it's probably one of the oddest murder confessions that I've ever heard. I've heard some
37:25real weird shit. That was pretty far out there. But kind of roll with it because you don't want to
37:35confront them on something that's core to their beliefs.
37:41The reality is setting in. What's going on? And I get Samantha and I pick her up and I put
37:49her in the
37:49back of the back of the truck. Okay. And where do you go next? I got to the place where
37:55I'm going to
37:55bury her body. And I park and I get out and I dig a hole. Okay. I get Samantha out
38:04of the back
38:05and I drag her to the back. And I drag her to the hall and I put her in and
38:08I bury her.
38:15We conclude it. And he agrees to take us to this location.
38:24So we drive north and we get to this rural location, the Stanford Ranch.
38:33We get out.
38:36And he directs us to where he had dug holes and buried her.
38:48As we were using brushes to remove the layers of dirt on top of her, you started seeing a picture.
38:56On her hand, there appeared to be a defensive wound from a knife. Which I think at the end of
39:03the day
39:03shows you the type of person that she was. I mean, she was not someone who was ready to die.
39:08And she
39:09fought valiantly, ultimately removing the knife from him with her hand, cutting herself and trying to live.
39:21Friends and family of Samantha McNorton held a candlelight vigil at a Decatur Park.
39:26It came just hours after they learned their search may have ended in tragedy.
39:30We had a candlelight vigil set up for the night that they found her. So it went from a vigil
39:37to
39:37a memorial. And it was really, really hard.
39:43It was about six or seven days later, I got a call from the Sheriff's Department dispatch.
39:48And they advised me that David Malone had hung himself in his jail cell immediately after getting
39:55off the phone with his mother. Thank God I didn't have to sit through a trial. That would hurt really
40:01bad. There is justice.
40:10The Texas Rangers,
40:15they're doing God's work. If they hadn't have come along, I don't believe that we would have
40:19ever found out anything.
40:23When Jim starts to work on homicide, he refuses to accept the fact that this is going to be an
40:30unsolved case. He will go without sleep. He will not eat whatever it takes.
40:36We wanted to find this woman. And we were both dedicated to doing whatever we needed to do
40:44to bring her back and to seek some type of justice and make sure that David Malone didn't kill anyone
40:50else.
40:53Samantha's family wants her legacy to be people having a better understanding of domestic violence.
41:02I know of two after she was killed that got out of their relationships. And they're still alive today.
41:08And don't put up with that anymore. What's my message? Get out and don't go back.
