00:01The husband of a TV actress faced the courts on Wednesday
00:04for allegedly swindling nearly 300,000 ringgit from two victims in separate fraud schemes.
00:10At the session's court, 41-year-old Mohamed Apri Hazreen, Mohamed Sapri,
00:14pleaded not guilty to a charge of deceiving a 56-year-old businessman
00:18out of more than 270,000 ringgit.
00:22Prosecutors allege he convinced the victim he could secure multiple plots of Salangor government land,
00:27a promise that was never fulfilled.
00:28The money was reportedly transferred online, directly into his wife's bank account.
00:33The offence, committed between April and November last year,
00:36falls under Section 420 of the Penal Code,
00:39which carries a prison sentence of between 1 and 10 years, caning, and a fine.
00:43At the magistrate's court, a second charge was read against the same accused,
00:48this time allegedly defrauding a retired army officer, aged 48, of over 23,000 ringgit.
00:54The pitch? A Datuk ship from Terengganu, in exchange for cash.
00:57The offence allegedly took place in Serembandua over a period of roughly 10 months last year.
01:03Appearing in court without legal representation, Mohamed Apri appealed for leniency on bail,
01:08citing his nine children, an unemployed wife, an elderly mother, and ongoing health conditions.
01:14The session's court judge reduced the prosecution's requested bail of 50,000 ringgit,
01:18down to 25,000, with one surety.
01:21At the magistrate's court, bail was set at 3,000 ringgit.
01:25Both cases are scheduled to be mentioned again on the 15th of April.
