00:00Remember those $2,000 tariff dividend checks
00:02we were all expecting?
00:04Well, things just got a little bit more confusing.
00:06And you're gonna wanna sit down for this video.
00:09So the Supreme Court ruled that the president
00:11can't use the IEEPA emergency laws to create tariffs.
00:15And that's a big deal.
00:16Foreign policy says that that ruling
00:18basically invalidates 60% of all U.S. tariff revenue
00:21from 2025, which matters because the whole idea
00:23behind these $2,000 checks depended on that money.
00:26They were tariff revenue checks
00:27meant to share the wealth with the American people.
00:29So then as a reaction to the ruling,
00:31Trump announced a new 10% global tariff
00:34and the next day raised it to 15%,
00:35claiming the ruling actually gave him more power,
00:38though he didn't explain how.
00:39Now critics say this looks more like political showboating.
00:42Big announcements with no clear way
00:44to make them actually happen
00:45in the same vein as those $2,000 checks.
00:48But supporters say the Supreme Court
00:50were the ones that were retaliating
00:51and that Trump's tariffs are still good for U.S. revenue overall
00:54and that this brand new batch of tariffs
00:56could fund those long sought after checks.
00:59But even if the money was there and ready to be sent out,
01:02Congress would still need to approve any nationwide rebate.
01:05No congressional approval means no checks.
01:07So right now, the fate of that $2,000 check
01:10hitting your bank account is looking pretty up in the air.
01:12But the big question is,
01:13are you still holding out hope for those checks
01:15or do you think this was all
01:16just a political football from the start?
