00:05out in indianapolis when was that dude two weeks ago we were out there together
00:12it's such a blur i think it was two weeks ago right two weeks ago in indy um i don't

00:18was on the radar in dc i thought he was coming back to la and uh wow big deal big
00:27deal but uh
00:27but a big gift for the commanders so it's funny you and i talked about away and khalil mac and
00:35what what i remember you and i you telling me in indy was i think one or the other ends
00:41up going
00:41with minter to baltimore but now fast forward two weeks and mac has stayed with the chargers
00:48and away is now coming to washington yeah you know so i think the priority for
00:57for the chargers was you got to get at least one of those guys back and khalil khalil
01:04was the obvious choice because khalil had been with the team for four years what he means in
01:09the locker room i know he's older but um he he's still a very productive player uh you put him
01:15on
01:15the other side of tuli tuli piloto and you know it just made a lot of sense for khalil to
01:20come back
01:21now adafi you know they traded for adafi ironically a week after
01:27chikori krosky merritt and company ran all over the um all over the chargers like
01:33it was a big issue like so just to give you some some background like what week two khalil
01:40hurts his elbow like a really nasty elbow injury and he's out so it's just tuli basically and they're
01:46having a lot of problems setting the edge and and i think that the the commander's game was kind of
01:52the straw right so the next week like two days later you trade alohi gilman for adafi away adafi has
01:59zero sacks in baltimore you know like four or five weeks into the season um his like first like snap
02:07in miami the next week he gets a sack proceeds to have seven and a half during uh the rest
02:13of the
02:14regular season and then three more against the new england patriots um in the playoff game so
02:19like so the charges you know they wanted to keep adafi but i think they just it got too rich
02:26because
02:26you have to keep in mind like tuli tuli piloto is 23 years old um he's in line for a
02:31big contract
02:31extension as well so to bring khalil back to to um to re-up tuli's deal and to bring away
02:39i mean
02:40that's that's a lot of money in three edge rushers and i think when i saw the hundred million dollar
02:45mark it made sense chris uh let the the fans here of the commanders know what type of player they're
02:51getting in our in our way well first and uh foremost uh beavish he's a great dude he just he's
02:59a really
02:59really good dude he fit in immediately into the uh the chargers culture and um just you know kind of
03:07hit the ground running but like i mean you're getting a guy that gets after the quarterback
03:10like i mean i know that there was so much need about justin herbert and not being able to protect
03:17justin herbert in that uh playoff game but if you're a commanders fan do yourself a favor and watch
03:22what adafi away did in that game i mean the that defense was awesome but he kind of led the
03:29way
03:30um three sacks in that game they they kept drake may out of the end zone for 50 the first
03:3750 plus
03:37minutes of that football game and um just the way that uh adafi could get after the quarterback you
03:44know um at cbs we we do uh we get like these walk-off interviews after wins and i remember
03:50you
03:51know the tennessee game middle of the year um we had adafi after the game a couple of sacks
03:57the game that they had to have in december at arrowhead when it was freezing adafi with two
04:04sacks in a uh just coming coming up in big spots so what i'm interested to see be mitch is
04:10just okay
04:11now you're now you're pass rusher number one in washington and you're not going to have khalil
04:16mack and you're not going to have truly on the other side can you rise to the occasion as the
04:22uh as
04:22the number one pass rusher and i think he has the ability to do that i mean he's 27 years
04:27old
04:27um and you know i'm sure the commanders are not done kind of uh addressing that edge room but you
04:34know it's that's pass rusher one money um so i'm very intrigued to see how he does there i really
04:41hope

06:13it was that era right so um i'm just doing everything i can to not get in trouble on my

06:19i pick coach up i drive the golf cart down to the to the remote and uh you know i
06:24i'm just like okay
06:25just i don't want coach to yell at me um so i get i get down to the remote um
06:31i i try to do everything
06:33to get out of the way right and it just goes so we we start the show and you know

06:39he goes john tops the show sports talk 980 spoken out koken rick doc walker we're at redskins training
06:47camp and if this intern would get out of my way i could see the field right now
06:54that was my first day that was my first day um i love it you you you better be you
07:00better be lucky
07:01to speak in tongues like he always say oh i have an nba all-star weekend story listen i got

07:09this is another time i love it all right um so the oway signing i i think for washington is
07:17really
07:17exciting do you think the best is still to come with him well i i think he's just scratching the
07:24surface i like keep in mind like i think jesse mitzer got the most out of him like he had
07:28he had
07:29a tough start to the year in baltimore i think baltimore as a whole had a tough start to the
07:35year
07:35but he didn't have any sacks going into week six and then all of a sudden they started coming in
07:40bunches so i do i think i mean he's he's only 27 years old um you know i i do
07:47think that
07:47having a guy like khalil and a guy like tuli on the other side obviously helped him um now you
07:55know i think we get we fall into this trap day one of a free agency where you know i
08:00know here in la
08:00they're like oh well are the chargers going to make any more moves are they going to make moves
08:04like keep in mind like these these rosters are not complete until like after the draft like in june so
08:11you know if you if you take that into consideration i'm sure the the commanders are not done
08:16filling out their edge room filling out their defensive line um but i do think that that
08:22adafe has the potential man to to really be a good player um and they need edge help in dc
08:30as you guys
08:31well know and i just think that the momentum going into that playoff game and i just i feel like
08:37he's
08:37playing with a lot of confidence right now too and you saw that throughout the course of of the
08:42the 2025 season just like each game he seemed to have uh you know really kind of put his stamp
08:49on
08:49you know what he's capable of doing um but that's i just want to say who's going to be on
08:54this other
08:55side of him right like who is who is it going to be on the other side now guys is
08:59it is wise
09:01who's going to be the other edge well you got to wonder what they're going to do at seven
09:04right i think that remains a a pretty big opportunity with bain bailey and reese there
09:11and i think yeah when so the new defensive coordinator in town durante jones wants versatility
09:18among his defensive front and i think bain really gives you that i think bailey is kind of plug and
09:25play straight up pass rusher reese i think is a a toolsy guy that people don't really know how he
09:31emerges so also dorns armstrong was playing really well for them before his injury last year so
09:37i they haven't done enough yet but to your point it's it's far from over yet either like it's just
09:43beginning um yeah yeah i you know i thought they wasn't on the field a lot either like like you
09:50know
09:50truly played a majority of the snaps um so he he was getting these sacks like it's not like he
09:56was
09:56playing a ton like he was playing like you know less than 50 percent of the snaps in most games
10:04see i i like that when a guy comes in sparingly and can have that type of impact i wonder
10:10if he's
10:10there more often because like when you go in half of the game you don't get a chance to really
10:14set up
10:16that that our offensive lineman as a as a guy that every play i think if he has the based
10:22off the
10:23athletic ability he has he can set them up and you know i think he had way more success
10:28yeah no i agree i agree i think he's i think he's into one position when you're also trying to
10:34protect justin herbert uh you know darwin's got his deal coming up so i think it just became a
10:39uh really a case of hey congratulations man that's a lot of money and uh you're capable of it
