00:00Well, the good news is after the very murky weekend, it is going to be a bit brighter
00:04this week, but it's also going to be considerably wetter than it has been lately.
00:09These are the rainfall totals throughout the whole week, how they build up.
00:12And you can see that from around midweek, they start to build up quite rapidly across
00:17western areas, in particular parts of South Wales and the high ground further north could
00:21see 100mm or so by the end of the week.
00:25Not enough rain in itself to cause major flooding issues, but certainly much more rain than
00:30we've seen lately.
00:31Now, what's causing that?
00:32Well, the jet stream is firing up from midweek across the Atlantic and that will drive a series
00:37of low pressure systems towards the UK at first through Wednesday morning through the early
00:42hours, but then another area of low pressure pushes in through the early hours of Thursday
00:46morning to bring some very wet and windy weather.
00:49And then it turns colder to end the week.
00:52So it's going to be quite a different start to the beginning of the week.
00:56But before we get to Wednesday, there's some rain around, but also some brightness actually.
01:00On Tuesday, across the south and east, it will be a relatively dry and fairly bright day.
01:06Now, further west, there will be some outbreaks of rain, relatively light at first, and then
01:11this main band pushes into Northern Ireland to end the day.
01:14But there will be very little in the way of sunshine for many western areas through Tuesday.
01:19But in any brightness, it will feel warmer tomorrow compared to today.
01:23We could see highs of around 14 to 15 degrees in the southeast, a little bit fresher elsewhere.
01:30And then it's this next area of low pressure that brings strengthening winds through the
01:34early hours of Wednesday, particularly across the far north, northwestern areas of Scotland.
01:39You can see those squeeze in the isobars.
01:41That's where we see the strong winds.
01:42And the weather front will be clearing the south and east through Wednesday morning.
01:46So perhaps a damp start to the day.
01:48But then it does brighten up.
01:50And for the bulk of England and Wales, actually, it's going to be a relatively dry day on Wednesday.
01:55But for Northern Ireland and Scotland, frequent showers will push in from the west.
01:59Some of these quite nasty.
02:01Temperatures, 9 to 13 degrees.
02:03That's around average for the time of year.
02:05But winds could reach 60 to 70 miles per hour across the far north for a time.
02:11Enough to bring some disruption.
02:13So please stay tuned to that.
02:14Now, this next area of low pressure moves in for the early hours of Thursday.
02:18But this time we've got the warm sector moving in.
02:21And we get really stuck in this warm sector across much of the country through Thursday.
02:25So it's going to be quite a widely wet day on Thursday.
02:28Probably the wettest day of the week for most of us, particularly for western areas.
02:34These areas of South Wales, the Lake District, up towards the northwest, the high ground of Scotland as well into
02:41Thursday morning.
02:42It does slowly start to clear this main band of rain into the afternoon.
02:47Behind it, it will turn colder.
02:49So that rain will start to fall as snow over the high ground of Scotland through Thursday afternoon.
02:54But heavy rain still persisting elsewhere across the country into Thursday afternoon.
02:58Temperatures, it's actually relatively mild, 13 to 12 degrees quite widely where we see this warm sector.
03:04But it's going to be pretty wet and cloudy in these areas.
03:08And then it turns colder to end the week.
03:11Quite a notable change in the air mass on Thursday night into Friday.
03:15Will bring a very different feel to the weather by the end of the week.
03:19Considerably colder to start the day.
03:21We are expecting a patchy frost, particularly in sheltered areas.
03:24Sheltered because the winds will be quite strong on Friday as well.
03:29Now, the rain will continue to move in from the north and west.
03:33So it's northwestern areas that will see frequent showers.
03:35Some of these falling as snow to around 200 metres.
03:39That's relatively low for the time of year.
03:41But also a mix of hail in there as well.
03:43And that brings a risk of ice too through Friday morning as well as into Saturday morning.
03:49The south and east will fare the best with the drier weather.
03:52But wherever you are, it's going to be feeling chilly quite widely.
03:54We'll just be in those single figures by day, which is below average.
03:59Now, the general theme remains unsettled into the weekend.
04:02But we are expecting at least a brief ridge of high pressure to bring some more settled weather in for
04:08Saturday.
04:09But the next area of low pressure is not far away, just in time for Mother's Day, unfortunately.
04:14But we'll be keeping you up to date with the forecast for the weekend, of course, throughout this week.
