00:00America's biggest food companies are sending a message to the White House.
00:04It's RFK Jr. or us.
00:06Here's what's happening.
00:07Ever since he became health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been pushing his
00:11Make America Healthy Again movement, targeting processed food ingredients he says are linked
00:16to chronic disease.
00:18Last year, more than 100 bills targeting food ingredients were introduced into state legislatures
00:23across the country.
00:24So now, the food industry is pushing back.
00:26The National Association of Manufacturers just launched a campaign warning that these
00:31new rules could completely disrupt the U.S. food system.
00:34The manufacturers are saying that stricter ingredient rules could raise production costs,
00:38and that means higher grocery prices at a time when food is already one of America's
00:42biggest expenses.
00:43Now, Kennedy says this push is because regulators have ignored evidence linking some food ingredients
00:48to disease, so he wants tighter oversight.
00:51But industry groups warn that if every state creates its own individual ingredient rules,
00:55companies may have to make different versions of the same food for different states, which
00:59means it'll definitely drive up costs.
01:01But consumer advocates say tougher rules are worth it if it leads to healthier food for Americans.
01:06So what matters more to you?
