Judo Returns to Upper Austria as Grand Prix Action Begins in Linz

The World Judo Tour returned to Linz for Day 1 of the Upper Austria Grand Prix. Mitsuki Kondo, Romain Valadier Picard, Iroha Oi, Ruslan Pashayev and Ayami Takano claimed gold medals as fans at the TipsArena enjoyed thrilling finals and spectacular techniques.

00:00The World Judo Tour returns to the beautiful hills of Upper Austria.
00:06Hosted in the Tips Arena, Linz, the crowd were in for an exciting day of Judo on the
00:11first day of the Grand Prix here.
00:13The tournament was officially opened by International Judo Federation Head Sport Director, Mr.
00:18Vladimir Barter, Governor of Upper Austria, Mr. Thomas Stelzer, and Austrian Judo Federation
00:23President, Dr. Martin Pueger.
00:26At under 48kg, Mitsuki Kondo of Japan met Eva Perez Soler of Spain in the first final
00:32of the tournament.
00:33A clinical Taiatoshi, directly into a hole down from Kondo, secured her the gold medal.
00:41This is Kondo's second Korea Grand Prix gold in Upper Austria.
00:45Upper Austria Governor, Mr. Thomas Stelzer, was on hand to award the medals.
00:53At under 60kg, Romain Valadier-Picard of France, who took gold here in 2023, was hoping for
00:59a repeat victory.
01:01A low, dropping Siatoshi saw him standing once again on the top spot.
01:15He was awarded his medal by International Judo Federation Education and Coaching Director,
01:22Mr. Mohamed Meridja.
01:25At under 52kg, Iroha Oi of Japan faced off against Rosa Gierczasz of Hungary.
01:32An early Yuko score from Oi was enough to see her take the gold medal.
01:40The tournament here in Austria has amazing facilities, great for competing, which makes it easier to
01:45fight.
01:46I competed here last year too, and I'm grateful to be back again this year.
01:50I came here determined to win it all.
01:54She was awarded her medal by President of the Austrian Olympic Committee, Mr. Horst Nussbaum.
02:00The under 66kg final saw Ruslan Pashaev of Azerbaijan against Ronald Lima of Brazil.
02:07With each player scoring a yuko, the fight was decided in golden score.
02:15A beautifully timed moment of Ashiwaza from Pashaev secured him the victory.
02:22The medals were awarded by International Judo Federation Head Sport Director, Mr. Vladimir
02:27Barta.
02:34A well-executed piece of Shimiwaza secured Ayami Takano her first ever Grand Prix gold.
02:44She was awarded the gold medal by International Judo Federation Head Referee Director, Mr.
02:48Armin Bagdazarov.
