Europe Shines on Day 1 of Zagreb Grand Prix

The 2025 Zagreb Grand Prix opened with European dominance. Eva Perez Soler, Enzo Jean, Distria Krasniqi, David Garcia Torne and Marica Perisic captured golds as the Arena Zagreb crowd celebrated a thrilling start to the IJF World Tour.

00:00The IJF World Tour returned to Croatia as its capital hosted the first day of the 2025 Zagreb Grand Prix.
00:07Arena Zagreb was brimming with excitement as young judo-mad fans got to watch their heroes.
00:14At under 48kg, Iva Perez-Soler was delighted to take her first Grand Prix gold medal.
00:20Two yuko scores proved the difference in the final against Laura Espadinha.
00:26IJF President Mr. Marius Wieser was on hand to award the medals.
00:33The under 60kg category final saw an all-French showdown.
00:38Enzo Jean took on compatriot Romain-Voladier Piccard.
00:41A very close encounter was decided by a single yuko in the final minute of the match.
00:46A clever counter from Jean, earning him the gold.
00:56He was awarded his medal by Mr. Vladimir Barter, IJF Head Sport Director.
01:01I love to fight here. Last year I did bronze medal, this year gold.
01:06I really love this place, I love everybody and you know, in summer I train really, really hard.
01:12And Zagreb for me is my gift to this summer hard work.
01:17So yes, for me Zagreb is really important and I hope I will have a lot of gold medal.
01:22At under 52kg, Dystria Krasnicki was on blistering form.
01:26She swept past all her opponents, including her long-standing rival, Reka Pup, in the final.
01:31Extending her head-to-head record against the Hungarian to an impressive 8-1.
01:36She was awarded her medal by IJF Education and Coaching Director, Mr. Mohamed Meridja.
01:43It's great, I have good memories here. I became European champion here in Zagreb.
01:48And I like it, I always take medal here. And it's also close to Kosovo.
01:55At under 66kg, it was a thrilling victory for Spain's David Garcia Torney against Italy's Elio Manzi.

02:11The medals were awarded by Miss Tina Tersteniak, IJF Referee Director.
02:18At under 57kg, home favourite Ana Victoria Puglies took on top seed Marisa Perisic.
02:28Perisic was too strong for her opponent, meaning it was a third Grand Prix gold for the Serbian.
02:40She was awarded the gold by Croatian judo federation president, Dr. Sander Ciorac.
02:46The Croatian team looked strong on day one. But tomorrow is the middleweights, with some big stars here to fight for gold.
