00:00Just really did nothing for the first three years of his career, basically, was banged up and then really burst
00:05onto the scene, hit free agency.
00:07Some people were wondering if he was a one-year wonder, and then he turned into an impact player for
00:10Cincinnati.
00:10So, no, I think he's a really good player.
00:16Depending on what the price point is, what sort of exit ramps you could build into the contract, I'd be
00:20in favor of going after Trey Hendrickson, if you don't get Max Cross.
00:23Where are you drawing that financial line?
00:28I want a deal that basically if I can bail out of it after two years at 60 probably, so
00:3630 million a year for two years with an option for a third year.
00:39Now, that may look like when it's signed, Trey Hendrickson signs for four years $136 million, but it's like, yeah,
00:45but it's two for 60.
00:46So, I mean, just however that looks and however that plays out, I'd be interested in that.
00:50All right, what scenarios did you come up with?
00:52All right, I got three for you here to pick from.
00:53All right, so I'll go through them.
00:55I'll list them one, two, three, and then you can tell me your thoughts on them.
00:58And then I'll share what Brian Broadus said, because I sent these over to Broadus during the break, too.
01:02I was curious which one he would pick.
01:03And by the way, let me just tease next week for a second.
01:07Next week, one of my most excited – it's my most excited non-NFL season week of the year.
01:16Choppy gets hyped up for Masters.
01:17He's always saying this is the best sports month.
01:19This is the best two-week run.
01:20And next week, when you have money to spend and you're supposed to be a player in free agency, I'm
01:26giddy.
01:27No naps.
01:29I'm not doing anything with a wife when I go home.
01:32And this is, like, the pre-tampering, before the deals are actually official, NFL free agency week.
01:39Next week on this show, I would tune in, not just for the breaking news, while other people are talking
01:45about 1960s concert reviews.
01:48The breaking news, the analysis, the guests, and I think the Cowboys are going to be players.
01:54Now watch.
01:55It'll just end up being, like, the second week of free agency as we're waiting next week.
01:58But I love it.
01:59All right.
02:00Go ahead.
02:00All right.
02:01So this is the three options that you have here.
02:05Okay.
02:05First one, the Cowboys trade pick 20 and their first rounder next year for Max Crosby.
02:14Now people are, I've already seen some people say this, can't trade the 2027 first rounder yet because it's frozen
02:20until after the 2026 season.
02:22Yeah, I know.
02:23But what you would do there, or what the Cowboys would do, they've got poison pills they can build into
02:28these things, basically.
02:29So it could be something along the lines of, you're trading pick 20, and then it's a 2028 second rounder.
02:35But if Max Crosby is on the roster on January 30th of 2026, then it becomes a 2027 first rounder,
02:44and then you're free to move it.
02:45So there would be a stipulation in it to, you'd basically have a hold on it to technically move it.
02:50Yeah, Matt Thomas brought that up, Tolo.
02:52All right, so two firsts, one this year, one next year.
02:55Two firsts for Max Crosby.
02:56You then draft LSU corner Mansoor Delane at 12th, and you sign N'Kobe Dean at linebacker, Jalen Thompson from
03:06the Cardinals at safety,
03:07who's considered to be one of the stronger safety guys on the market, which if you're wondering...
03:12Broadus was a fan in his film review.
03:14If you're wondering about safety market, Cam Curl, who's probably considered a little above Jalen Thompson,
03:20just re-signed with the Rams this morning, and he did so for three for 36, 12 million a year.
03:26All right, so you trade two picks for Max Crosby, get Mansoor Delane in the draft, you sign Jalen Thompson
03:32and N'Kobe Dean.
03:33Good start to rebuilding your defense.
03:35Your other option.
03:37You don't make the trade.
03:38You keep your picks.
03:39You draft Sonny Stiles at 12.
03:41This is just a scenario.
03:43Which, by the way...
03:45I can't remember who wrote it.
03:47I want to give the credit.
03:48One of the NFL draft rooms at the Combine gave Sonny Stiles a standing ovation for his performance out there.
03:57That he blew everyone away in terms of the interviews and the athleticism.
04:02And one of the rooms, I don't know which team it was, gave him a standing O.
04:06Yeah, he's considered like a big-time culture guy, too.
04:11So, super athlete, big culture guy, super young.
04:14He's still 20 years old.
04:16So, I mean, he's going to be a...
04:19Brugler.
04:20Brugler said it.
04:20He is going to be a highly sought-after individual in terms of for everything that he brings to the
04:25table.
04:26But you draft Sonny Stiles at 12, let's say.
04:30You take Tennessee corner Colton Hood at 20.
04:35And then you sign Trey Hendrickson.
04:38And because you're signing probably a hefty amount of money, probably the top deal on the off-season market,
04:45you don't have as many resources to go play.
04:47So, you go sign Reed Blankenship.
04:49That's safety from the Eagles.
04:51So, Hendrickson is the edge rusher addition.
04:53But hang on.
04:53In scenario one, which doesn't surprise me, you would skew this towards what you want,
04:58which is your max crush.
05:00We'll see.
05:00You're trading for max, but then you're spending on Thompson and Dean.
05:04Thompson and Dean are not going to cost as much as Trey Hendrickson.
05:08Yeah, I know that.
05:09But you're also acquiring max's salary.
05:13I know, but you're talking about building...
05:15You're acquiring max's salary, but max has already had bonus money and guaranteed money that's been paid out.
05:19It's not as much of a drag on your cap as...
05:22In terms of it's not as much cap obligation with max as it's going to be with Trey Hendrickson for
05:26three years.
05:26Okay, because max is making $35 per.
05:30Mm-hmm.
05:30No, and they would do things to finagle it and soften it.
05:34But no, they could add that.
05:35It's ultimately, in a three-year run, probably going to end up costing you more to have Trey Hendrickson,
05:41in all likelihood.
05:42Okay.
05:43So you've got Trey Hendrickson, Reed Blankenship.
05:47Styles, Hood at corner, Trey Hendrickson, Blankenship.
05:49How much more do you like Delane than Hood?
05:53A decent amount.
05:54I really like Mansoor Delane.
05:56Now, Colton Hood, I think, is good.
05:58Brugler made me feel like Delane was kind of like foolproof in Indy.
06:03He's very safe.
06:04Like, find me the bad tape.
06:06You can't find it.
06:07I think Wulchuk said that, too.
06:08He's very safe, and if you take Ryan Smith, their new DB's coach,
06:12he was the one who initially recruited Mansoor Delane to go to Virginia Tech
06:16before he transferred to LSU.
06:18And then the third scenario, Reuben Bain slides, and you draft him at 12.
06:25At 20, you take the Oregon safety Dylan Thienemann.
06:28Who Dane doesn't even have making it to 20 in his latest mock.
06:32And then you go get, all right, let's throw some.
06:35T-Man, one of the scouts calling him T-Man.
06:36Again, bad nickname.
06:38Let's throw some moderate cash at a few different individuals.
06:43So you sign Jalen Phillips.
06:45So you're really going to edge rusher now.
06:47Jalen Phillips, Reuben Bain.
06:49You sign Alante Taylor, the corner from the Saints,
06:51and then you add Quay Walker, the linebacker from the Packers.
06:55So those are your three scenarios.
06:57And I threw this to Broadus.
06:59Would you like Broadus' selection, or would you like to be unspoiled by it?
07:03His selection is the Bain one.
07:06Would you like to know?
07:07I'm not a fan.
07:08It is not the Bain one.
07:09Crosby.
07:10He said he would take option A.
07:11He said they're all great options.
07:13He said he'd take any of the three, but he said option A is the one he would go with.
07:16And these are obviously just sort of dream scenarios, the way that these play out.
07:18You're not likely to get them.
07:19But I'm just saying, if you were able to click into this offseason, which one would you select?
07:24And what's your answer, Max?
07:29Um, probably.
07:31The least desirable one to me is the one that signs Trey Hendrickson.
07:34I just think it's the least desirable is what?
07:38The one where you sign Trey Hendrickson.
07:41Hendrickson, Blankenship, Hooded Corner, and Styles.
07:43And I think those are good players.
07:45It's just, I think Crosby's a better player than Hendrickson.
07:51Crosby would be the best address for those.
07:52And then I think being able to add just steady across the board with the other three is good enough
07:59for me.
08:04See, one looks really good, but you've also finagled it.
08:08You're like, you're spending it on Thompson.
08:11One, I lose capital.
08:13You're giving up next year's first round pick.
08:15One, I lose capital.
08:16You're cooking the books here.
08:17No, one, I lose capital.
08:18Honestly, you could say three is the best option because you get Bain, who would be, to a lot of
08:23people, the highest player graded out of all these draft picks that I chose.
08:26I'm leaning towards three.
08:28And you get five players instead of four.
08:29I'm leaning towards three because I fixed my edge issue.
08:34Yes.
08:34I got Phillips and Bain.
08:36The weak part of three is corner.
08:38I mean, I don't know how, I honestly, I don't know how good Alante Taylor is.
08:42I don't know.
08:43He's solid.
08:44He's, so I'm trying to think of like a good.
08:46I got the amount of safety.
08:47I got two edges.
08:49You remember what?
08:50I got a linebacker and I got a corner.
08:51This is not similar play style.
08:53This is just quality.
08:54Kind of like what Brandon Carr was here.
08:57Just like steady.
08:59Yeah.
08:59Like Carr did not deserve the money he got.
09:01I'm not saying to be the same.
09:02But in terms of just the level of player, sort of what Brandon Carr was in Dallas.
09:05If you tell me that Delane, I mean, to me, the answer comes down to Delane and Hood.
09:14Yeah.
09:15So if you tell me Hood is going to be really good, I can go Styles, Trey, Blankenship and
09:20get my corner.
09:21I was wrong about Quinion Mitchell coming out of the draft.
09:24I did not like him like everybody else liked him.
09:28But the way people described Quinion Mitchell coming out and what he could do, that to
09:35me is what I see in Colton Hood.
09:37So it's kind of a weird definition.
09:39I don't want to say he's Quinion Mitchell, who's turned out to be a really great NFL player.
09:41But the way people talked about Quinion Mitchell as a prospect that I didn't think they were
09:44going to be, that's Colton Hood to be.
09:45Colton Hood is physical press man guy.
09:48Colton Hood is going to bust his ass and run support.
09:51Colton Hood is going to give you a grit and an edge.
09:55He's going to be versatile, cover some different places.
09:56Is he going to be like a great, like, oh, I can run with anybody down the field kind
10:01of guy?
10:01No, probably not.
10:01But in terms of just adding some toughness and be able to physically play with receivers
10:06at the line of scrimmage and contribute in the run game, Colton Hood can do that.
10:09And Delane's comp?
10:12Delane's a little, so this is not a great comp to the type of player.
10:17But honestly, like, to me, he would be, all right, there we go.
10:21We got a Jordan Lewis back.
10:22Like, we got somebody in here who can, maybe a little undersized to play outside all the
10:27time, but can definitely hang inside at the nickel and is tough and is just always in
10:35the vicinity of the receivers, never really getting beat.
10:38That's Delane.
10:38Delane is not flashy.
10:40Delane is just steady as hell.
10:43What's the fan text saying?
10:45Let's go check out what they're saying.
10:47You've got some people saying the Crosby one is more appealing.
10:50469 says, we need more than just a pass rusher, though, on Crosby.
10:54We don't have any linebackers.
10:55Want to add some more linebackers.
10:57201 says...
10:57Well, the Kobe Dean is in that first package.
11:00201 says option one, absolutely not.
11:02Option two, acceptable.
11:04Option three, lean towards this one.
11:06There's a lot of people on here who say they don't want the Max Crosby one.
11:09469 says number three, and it's not even close.
11:12So, kind of split here.
11:13It looks like most people are turning towards the Reuben Bain, Dylan Thienemann, Jalen Phillips one.
11:17I am, too.
11:20Now, in order to do the Crosby one, I have to be convinced, right, the Cowboys are going to have
11:24a good season,
11:24so next year's first-round pick will be definitely below 20.
11:30Do you think that one of these options stands out as making them not better for the next three?
11:37One of them stands out as making them better next year, for sure?
11:41One.
11:41So, one would be the one that makes you better next year?
11:43No doubt.
11:44I got my play-now safety.
11:46I got my absolute stud, possible future Hall of Famer.
11:50I have my NFL experience linebacker and Christian Parker system,
11:54and I have the top corner in the draft.
11:57Is that a playoff team, if that's their offseason?
11:59I don't know.
12:00Come on, say it.
12:01You don't want to say it.
12:02You know it would be.
12:03You just don't want to say it.
12:06My college mistake...
12:07Hey, I'm not playing Madden.
12:08I'm telling you two of those things are probably going to happen in that first one.
12:11My college mistake...
12:12Okay, so that's going to be Dean and what?
12:16What's the second thing?
12:17I think they're going to sign N'Kobe Dean and Jalen Thompson.
12:19Oh, you think Jalen Thompson?
12:20And they very well could draft Mansoor Delaney.
