00:00The TTPS is looking into an incident where police officers were reportedly denied entry
00:05to a gated community by security officers because they were in unmarked vehicles.
00:12I think very important is for us to establish the protocols that should be given so that
00:20security firms, even though they are doing their job, should know what to look for,
00:25especially where police officers are concerned, police officer would come and the normal protocol
00:31is that they would identify themselves and also show their identification card and badge.
00:38So even though they are without the uniform, you can know it is a police officer.
00:42And I think that even though security firms might have their standard operating procedures,
00:49they have to understand that when a police officer is doing their job, that they should
00:53not seek to hinder the work of the police officer because it can be a matter of life and death.
00:59The officers were responding to a report of a home invasion at East Lakes Tumpuna Road in Arima.
01:05But by the time the officers were given access to the community,
01:09the female victim had been relieved of several valuables by the intruders.
01:14It is something that presently we are looking into in terms of, you know, exactly what transpired
01:21and exactly how we can deal with it, especially going into the future.
01:26However, Benjamin declined to say whether the security guard's actions constituted obstruction of the police.
01:33We have to look at it because, again, if the police officer has done all that is within his power
01:39to show that he is a police officer on duty, then anything after that can amount to that.
01:46Nevertheless, we are saying that before we even go the hard route, it is important for us
01:51to sit down and have that level of collaboration with the security industry
01:57because they are part and parcel of the stakeholders.
02:01And they are important in order for us to work together
02:05so that we can even seek to, you know, stem the crime situation.
