DesSevere thunderstorms began expanding across the Plains on the evening of March 4, as Dr. Reed Timmer shows here.
Transcript
00:00We are chasing a developing supercell storm near Caddo, Oklahoma and far southeastern
00:05Oklahoma and you can see a very large base on this storm.
00:09We have seen some occasional non-rotating wall clouds forming already, but we do expect
00:13this to become a severe storm shortly, possibly producing hail up to one inch in diameter.
00:19We're seeing a lot of an increase in the CG lightning strikes, cloud to ground lightning
00:23out here with this storm, but the telltale sign that it is intensifying and a healthy
00:28young supercell is the very large updraft base here and there definitely is broad rotation
00:33also being indicated on radar storms are developing all the way back to the southwest, including
00:38the DFW area.
00:39But the bulk wind shear, the surface up to six kilometer wind shear is a lot lower down near
00:45the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex and those are having difficulty organizing so far.
00:49Not the case up here on the Oklahoma side of the Red River.
00:53You can even see a little scud tag starting to form there could be the early signs of an
00:57initial wall cloud forming very shortly on this storm.
01:00These are going to continue to expand in number, move across southeastern Oklahoma and will pose
01:05mainly a large hail and damaging wind threat, but a tornado can certainly not be ruled out.
