00:00Olin, give me your reaction when you heard that Drew Dahlman retired.
00:07First of all, what's up, guys?
00:08And didn't think we'd be talking about centers this time of the year.
00:12Right now, wasn't really looking at any centers in the draft
00:15and wasn't really looking at any free agents
00:17and just was kind of enjoying my offseason with the Bears' offensive line
00:21and wondering what they were going to do at the left tackle spot.
00:24Then all of a sudden, about 145 yesterday,
00:26my phone started blowing up about some questions about Drew Dahlman.
00:31I'm thinking, why does anybody want to talk about Drew Dahlman,
00:33the Pro Bowl center for the Chicago Bears,
00:36and obviously found out that he retired.
00:39And my first thought, like everybody else, was I hope he's okay.
00:41And I hope the game at the end of it all was just that it was his time.
00:45And when it's your time, it's your time, man.
00:46When you can't put the pads on anymore, when you can't go hit guys anymore,
00:51when it's all said and done for you, it's over.
00:54And if that's what it was, I wish him the best in life,
00:58and I wish him the best going forward.
00:59And obviously, this guy is a – I think he carried a 3.6 GPA at Stanford
01:04in mechanical engineering was his degree.
01:06And he probably has a lot of options out there.
01:08And his dad also played football and I think had to retire
01:11because of a neck injury.
01:12So I'm sure they've had a lot of conversations in the Dahlman halls
01:15about football.
01:16And make sure you can give it your all if you're going to walk on that football field.
01:21But a Pro Bowl-type center, Spieg and Lawrence,
01:25and a guy who plays at the level that Drew Dahlman plays at
01:28and a guy who diagnosed the field like he did.
01:30And he, you know, obviously processed information at the center position
01:34and handled a lot of the protections and who was coming and who wasn't
01:38and who the line was going to work to.
01:40And you guys remember that after the Raiders game,
01:42they weren't running the ball very well,
01:44but then they started gelling after their bye week.
01:46And, you know, Coach Ben Johnson said they would fix it
01:49and Drew Dahlman was a big part of that, man.
01:51And the fact that he could reach guys in his outside zone run scheme
01:55in which I've talked about many times on these very airways
01:59that he was a specialist at.
02:01Very good football player.
02:02I really enjoyed watching him play.
02:04I enjoyed watching his film last year.
02:07And you wish him the best.
02:08But like you guys talk about,
02:09the Bears have a pretty big question mark now
02:12in the middle of their offensive line,
02:14an area that we thought the middle of the line we thought was fixed.
02:18And to be honest, guys,
02:19I thought if we heard anything the year,
02:20it would be that Joe Tooney decided that he was going to hang it up, right?
02:24That he's older now and well in his 30s.
02:27He played a lot of football games and he was the protector of the year.
02:30So really surprised to hear about Drew Dahlman retired.
02:33But obviously, like everybody else,
02:35I wish him the best as he goes forward with whatever he's going to do now.
