00:03Jared Powell and Kaya McNabb are on their way to achieving the great Australian dream of home ownership.
00:13The first home buyers have just selected a builder for land at Munnopara in Adelaide's North.
00:19It's been pretty hard honestly. I mean living at home has been a big advantage towards it.
00:24Jared and Kaya's story is a familiar one.
00:29The housing market is running hot with the state's Valuer General reporting the median sale price in Adelaide was $925
00:37,000 in December.
00:39So how are you going today guys?
00:41Stephen Knight from the Housing Industry Association believes the figure's conservative.
00:46I would say that we're up around the million dollars now for houses.
00:50There's basically just too much demand and not enough supply. I mean it's pretty simple economics isn't it?
00:54The major parties are pledging to increase supply, grow the construction workforce and abolish stamp duty for downsizes.
01:03While Labor's emphasising new builds.
01:06The Liberals want people to have a choice and will extend first home buyer stamp duty relief to established homes
01:14if elected.
01:15We recognise that there are a lot of people who want to buy established homes.
01:20They don't want to have to sign a contract. They don't want to wait for the house to be built.
01:24We're all about new supply. If people want to see new supply, vote Labor.
01:28If you want to see increased prices on established homes, we'll vote for these other characters.
01:34Labor's ambition is to build 13,500 new homes each year if elected.
01:39The Liberals don't have a target but say they'll set one if they win government.
01:44Nice so we'll spend the last one.
01:44So we'll save the amount of money.
01:45We'll save them as well as we've got our rent.
01:46We'll save them on account.
