00:00Now it is with incredible pleasure that I present to you the recipient of the
00:062026 SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award, the timeless American treasure, the man
00:13himself, my dear buddy Harrison Ford.
01:10Thank you, thank you very much.
01:21Thank you, Woody, for that restricted introduction.
01:32I'm really proud to call you my friend and a colleague.
01:40I feel incredibly grateful for this kind attention.
01:49But to be clear, I also am quite humbled.
01:58I'm in a room of actors, many of whom are here because they've been nominated to receive a prize for
02:06their amazing work.
02:08Well, I'm here to receive a prize for being alive.
02:20That said, it is a little weird to be getting a lifetime achievement award at the half point of my
02:29career.
02:37It's a little early, isn't it?
02:40I'm still a working actor.
02:45I was not an overnight success.
02:49I struggled for about 15 years going from acting job to carpentry and back to acting until I finally got
02:59a part in a wildly successful film.
03:04None of this happened on my own.
03:07Thank you, George Lucas.
03:10Thank you, Steven Spielberg.
03:13There were two other people who had a hand in guiding me through hard times.
03:29Fred Roos, casting director and producer for Francis Ford Coppola.
03:39And my manager for 30 years, Pat McQueenie.
03:47They were both incredibly persistent in their support of me at a time when I really needed it.
03:54I would not be here without them.
03:57They're no longer with us.
04:00But it feels important that I think of them now.
04:04I feel them here tonight.
04:08They would be happy for me.
04:19In my third year of college, I was a little lost.
04:25I was failing at school.
04:28I felt isolated, alone.
04:32And then I found the company of people putting on plays.
04:41Storytellers.
04:43People I once thought were misfits and geeks turned out to be my people.
04:52I found a calling.
04:54A life in storytelling.
04:57An identity in pretending to be other people.
05:03The work I do with other actors is one of the great joys of my life.
05:13My career is built on their work, as well as the work of writers, directors, and every single cast member,
05:21every crew member I've ever been on the set with.
05:28I've had incredible collaborators at every step of the way.
05:34And being able to deliver the work we create together to an audience is an honor and a privilege.
05:46And because of that privilege, I've come to know myself.
05:55This is a tough business to get into.
05:58In my case, it's been a tough business to get out of, thank God.
06:04Because I love what I do.
06:07As actors, we get to live many lives.
06:12We get to explore ideas that affirm and elevate our shared experience.
06:20The stories we tell have a unique capacity to create moments of emotional connection.
06:28They bring us together.
06:32So while we're all at different stages of our lives and careers in this room, we all share something fundamental.
06:43We share the privilege of working in the world of ideas, of empathy, of imagination.
06:54Sometimes we make entertainment.
06:58Sometimes we make art.
07:02Sometimes we're lucky we make them both at the same time.
07:06And if we're really fortunate, we also get to make a living doing it.
07:14Success in this business brings a certain freedom that comes with responsibility.
07:22To support each other.
07:24To lift others up when we can.
07:30To keep the door open for the next kid.
07:34The next lost boy who's looking for a place to belong.
07:41I'm indeed a lucky guy.
07:45Lucky to have found my people.
07:49Lucky to have work that challenges me.
07:52Lucky to still be doing it.
07:55But I don't take that for granted.
07:58I want to say thank you.
08:01Truly.
08:02From the bottom of my heart.
08:04To my peers.
08:07To my extraordinary, beautiful wife, Calista.
08:12And my family.
08:18For giving me love and courage.
08:23Through all of it.
08:26And thank you to SAG-AFTRA for honoring me with this prize.
08:32This is very encouraging.
08:34I need to sit together.
08:36I need you to thank the
08:36same year, Scott of Apollo.
