00:13Iran launched late Sunday a new wave of
00:15retaliatory airstrikes against Israel
00:18and United States targets as part of its
00:21true promise for operation. In Palestine
00:27more than 23 civilians were detained in
00:29illegal threats carried out by Israeli
00:31forces as part of their expansion is
00:34planned. The death toll from heavy rains
00:39related flooding in southeastern Brazil
00:42rose to 70 as rescue teams continue
00:45searching for at least three missing
00:46people in the region.
00:52Hello, welcome to From the South, I am Lorena Fon
00:55from the Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:57We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:16Iran launched late Sunday a new wave of airstrikes against Israeli and United States targets as part of its true
01:24promise for operation.
01:25Iranian strikes come an hour after the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and members of his family were assassinated by
01:33United States and Israeli missiles and after Iranian President Massoud Paseskiyan called the murder a declaration of war and promised
01:42that the crime will not remain unpunished. According to official reports earlier Iranian military responses have impacted several Israeli cities
01:51and United States military facilities in the region with serious damage.
02:01The death toll from the U.S. Israeli attacks on an elementary school in the southern Iranian city of Minab
02:08rose to 165. According to the authorities, the bombing also left 95 people injured. Iranian media reports that the victims
02:18include children who were in the educational center at the time of the impact.
02:22An official said the school located in Ormosgan province had been the target of three missile attacks. Authorities have not
02:31ruled out the possibility that the death toll could rise due to the seriousness of several injuries.
02:42Bombings and destruction continue following the joint Israeli-United States attack on Iran, which has targeted civilian and medical facilities.
02:51Iranian authorities report that on March 1st, the onslaught hit the Red Christian Building, the Qatam al-Enviya Hospital, the
02:59Welfare Organization Motahari Hospital, the State Television Building, and the Gandhi Hospital in Tehran.
03:06Where nurses had to be transferred newborn babies to another hospital due to another hospital due to the Zionist attack.
03:16Iran's missile shield is repelling dozens of Israeli and United States projectiles attempting to enter Persian territory. Hundreds of Iranians
03:26are gathered in Tehran to watch the armed forces neutralize the foreign attacks.
03:30They denounce the military actions led by Israeli troops with the support of the Trump administration.
03:36So far, the Zionist aggression against Tehran has killed over 200 people and wounded dozens others.
03:48In this context, in Iran, thousands of people gathered in streets and squares across the country to join in mourning
03:56and tribute ceremonies following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and high-ranking military officials during the unprovoked
04:05Israeli-United States aggression.
04:06The government has decreed 40 days of official mourning and tributes are being organized in all cities.
04:13Ali Khamenei became the leader of the Islamic Republic in 1989, succeeding the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, a key figure
04:21in the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
04:24Khamenei was president during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s.
04:30The assassination of the country's supreme leader comes after the United States broke off the indirect negotiation process taking place
04:38in Switzerland, brokered by Oman,
04:40and in a trigger attack, bombed the Persian capital and other Iranian cities on Saturday Monday, killing hundreds of civilians.
04:55Khamenei was the highest political and religious authority in the Islamic Republic.
05:00The constitution granted him the leadership of the state and the custody of the principles of the 1979 revolution that
05:07overthrew the monarchy.
05:08His political career began in opposition to Shah Azapalavi.
05:12This militancy in the 1960s and 1970s led to multiple arrests and persecution by the Shah's intelligence service.
05:22In 1985, he was appointed president after surviving an assassination attempt that affected the mobility of his right arm.
05:31He served to consecutive terms during the war between Iran and Iraq, a conflict that consolidated his position among the
05:38country's elite.
05:38Under his leadership, Tehran consolidated its position as a key regional player by strengthening the coalition known as the Axis
05:45of Resistance, with influence in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.
05:49Khamenei's foreign policy was characterized by firm opposition to Israel, and continuous support for the Palestinian cause, repeatedly condemning Israeli
05:57military operations in the Gaza Strip.
06:04At the time of the assassination, the supreme leader was performing his duties at his workplace, demonstrating his courage by
06:12continuing to defend his country's sovereignty in the face of U.S.-Israeli attacks.
06:17In this regard, the government announced 40 days of national mourning following the martyrdom of the leader of the Islamic
06:22revolution, Sayyid Ali Khamenei.
06:28In Iraq, we go now to the recent images of the new retaliatory attacks in Tel Aviv, Israel, as part
06:38of the retaliatory strikes that are being carried out by the Iranian armed forces to defend its oppression,
06:45to defend its country against the recent attacks carried out by the United States, joint with the Israeli regime.
06:58And now, just as we enter, right now, the second day of this escalation against the Persian nation following the...
07:06Iran is performing a new wave of retaliatory actions against the capital of the Sudanese regime in a context of
07:14the ongoing actions that kicked off with the unprovoked attack, war attack, on the Persian nation on February 28th.
07:26And bombings are, at this moment, lightning the night sky of the capital of Israel.
07:35At this hour, we, if you are joining us in this broadcast, at this moment, we are seeing live images
07:42of the capital of Israel, Tehran, and of Israel, of the capital of Israel, Tel Aviv, at this hour, with
07:50a new wave of retaliatory actions by the Iranian nation,
07:55the Persian nation, the Persian nation, and this is happening as well as the U.S., in collision with the
08:04Sinai regime of Israel, kicked off and launched an attack, an unprovoked attack, yet again against Iran on February 28th,
08:16in the early hours of Saturday as well.
08:19In this moment, Iran is responding, is retaliating these illegal actions performed against the nation.
08:28The Iranians are also fighting against the U.S. and Israel on behalf of all free peoples around the world.
08:37Let's recall that it is also taking place after the martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the leader, the supreme leader
08:49of Iran and of the Muslims worldwide.
08:52This has been, as well, a very tragic event that has been condemned throughout the world in a declaration of
09:02war, as it was classified as well by several Iranian authorities,
09:08including the President, Massoud Peshizkian, he said in an early televised speech, he said,
09:16for years now the United States has spoken to Iran in only one language, a threat.
09:21Washington's military deployments and also rhetoric during negotiations as they were holding are experienced in the region as intimidation rather
09:32than genuine diplomacy.
09:34The assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is a declaration of an open war against Muslims across the world.
09:42Also in the face of these circumstances, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ismail Bagaye, also said that Iran's government does
09:53not rely on one individual.
09:56This was referring to the martyrdom of the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
10:02And he said even though Teheran's enemies have been promoting this idea, Iran does not rely on one individual.
10:10Iran is a huge and powerful nation in which, as well, in the face of these circumstances, the people have
10:17been uniting together,
10:18contrary to what the U.S. and also Israel expected.
10:22They expected that there was going to be a massive salute to this attack, and the opposite has happened.
10:28Iranian people have been united in one single call, which is the end of these hostilities and also which is
10:37also the defense of their territory at whatever cost.
10:41We can see at this moment live images of missiles that are at this moment being launched against and upon
10:48the capital of Israel, Tel Aviv at this hour.
10:54The bombings are at this moment lining up the bombings are at this moment lining up the night sky of
11:00Tel Aviv.
11:01Also we can see that Israel is trying as well to counter this attack, to also to halt these missiles
11:11from falling on Israel at this moment.
11:16These also have been showing the branch of the capacities of Israel to contain such retaliatory actions.
11:26We've seen in many images throughout the past over 24 hours.
11:31Of course we have seen the aftermath of these retaliatory actions that have been launched with a severity by Iranian
11:39authorities almost immediately after the first unprovoked attack on the nation on February 28th.
11:48We've seen the Israel as well.
11:49We've seen in many cases that have been launched with Israel as they were so proud of saying that it
11:51was in the highest technology that they were using.
11:56Well, Iran is at this moment showing how it, showing all of the vulnerabilities of Israel of actually halting such
12:05actions.
12:05This is something that we also witnessed during the 12-day war launched as well once more by Israel in
12:13the context as well of negotiations that were underway at that moment with the United States regarding Iran's nuclear program.
12:22And now we are seeing, like, the history is repeating itself.
12:28At that moment, almost seven or eight months ago, the capacity, the retaliatory capacity of Iran also was a full
12:40surprise for Israel.
12:42And now they have had to take some time to recover from those events.
12:46And now they are relying on the U.S. to be accomplices in these illegal and violatory actions against the
12:56Persian nation.
12:57They are willing that the U.S. engages fully in this confrontation.
13:03And that is something that has been as well condemned throughout the world, but most especially within the United States.
13:10The U.S. people do not want to be dragged into another war, another endless war.
13:16Now, also, we have seen, let's go through some of the main highlights of the day.
13:22Israel and the U.S. coalition have been trying to target not just the main leaders of the nation, something
13:31that they, as we were informing throughout the day,
13:35the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was martyred on during these attacks.
13:41But they are not only attacking and targeting political, high political figures and also high military facilities in Iran.
13:49They are also targeting civilian areas.
13:53They are a residential neighborhood.
13:55They are also attacking as well as we were informing an elementary school that has left hundreds of people dead
14:05and the great majority of them being girls in this repudiated attack as well.
14:14Well, today they bombed as well a hospital, the Gandhi hospital in Teheran, that was informed and officially informed that
14:26they were attacked by a U.S. Zionist airstrike.
14:30Over 200 martyrs and 747 people have been injured in attacks against Iran since the very, very early hours of
14:42Saturday morning.
14:43Iran's radio and television headquarters was also attacked.
14:48It is very well known how in the face of these conflicts the news media and the journalists are also
14:57one of the main targets on behalf of the Zionist regime and also the United States.
15:04They are trying to silence the reality of what is happening.
15:09They are trying to silence the effect that is having this confrontation not just in a matter of national security
15:17but it's also putting at risk the lives of civilians because they are not respecting the rights of civilians in
15:24the face of these circumstances.
15:26We have been seeing how civilians, how children, elderly people are the ones exposed to these circumstances.
15:34We were at this moment seeing live images of the bombings, a new wave of retaliatory actions by Iran in
15:46this moment at this very hour.
15:48And also seeing live images of the night sky of Tel Aviv, the capital of Israel, Iran is determining and
15:58keep defending its sovereignty in the face of these circumstances.
16:02The numbers speak out for themselves.
16:05For example, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps pledged revenge regarding this outrageous attack on the nation and said it launched
16:15attacks on 27 military bases.
16:18There is a basis region-wide hosting U.S. troops in the Middle East as well as Israeli military facilities
16:26in Tel Aviv.
16:27Explosions continue to be heard in several nations in the region that are hosting as well U.S. military bases.
16:37And also we could see how at this very moment we were listening to the silence and also to the
16:43bombings, the explosions of Iranian missiles, retaliatory missiles.
16:49And also we witnessed at this moment how the Israeli military officials were incapable of stopping these retaliatory bombings at
17:04this hour.
17:04Let's recall that also ever since these attacks began, the Iranian authorities have launched attacks on 27 U.S. bases
17:15nationwide and region-wide in the Middle East.
17:19In these attacks, 560 U.S. military personnel have been killed or wounded in this operation that is called Operation
17:30True Promise 4.
17:32And this was announced by Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as well.
17:36These strikes have also destroyed U.S. al-Salem base in Kuwait and severely damaged as well U.S. naval
17:47infrastructure in Bahrain as missile and drone attacks continue across the region.
17:54And we just witnessed as well one of these retaliatory attacks on Tel Aviv, the capital of Israel.
18:02Also, let's keep informing that Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had also attacked earlier today the U.S. aircraft
18:12carrier USS Abraham Lincoln with four ballistic missiles.
18:18In what it described as a concentrated attack.
18:22The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps said U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, if you remember, it was also placed a
18:32few weeks ago in Caribbean waters during the operation perpetrated,
18:39the illegal attacks perpetrated against the sovereign nation of Venezuela that also led to the kidnapping of Constitutional President Nicolas
18:51Maduro Moros and also the First Lady Celia Flores.
18:57The U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln had to fled its mission area and also had to move toward the
19:06Southeastern Indian Ocean after it was targeted with four cross missiles.
19:11This is also official information.
19:15In this context as well, we are going through the main highlights of the day.
19:21We need to say that U.S. President Donald Trump has declared as well that a peaceful solution with Iran
19:29is still possible.
19:30This is what he said.
19:32But let's recall that this is the same president that has been trying to portray himself, to describe himself as
19:41the president of peace,
19:44that was not willing to drag the nation into an endless war and even was demanding,
19:51and those were his own words, demanding the Nobel Peace Prize to be held, to be gifted to him because
20:00of his outstanding work in maintaining peace worldwide.
20:04Well, we are saying now, otherwise we have been saying how the U.S. presidents have been, it is bloodthirsty
20:12in this attack against Iran that is being targeted.
20:16It has been trying to target the main leaders of the Iranian, the Islamic authorities of the nation.
20:25Unfortunately, in these attacks, it was martyrdom, the supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in these events.
20:36But this hasn't stopped the Iranian people and the Iranian government in their determination to keep defending their sovereignty.
20:45And this is a proof of this, as we can see, the aftermath of these attacks are very serious and
20:53very concerning.
20:54In this context as well, the Iranian people are fighting, are putting up a fight, are putting up a huge
21:04fight on behalf of the just causes of the world,
21:07on behalf of, as well, of the Palestinian people.
21:11Let's not forget that as we are witnessing these back and forth retaliatory actions and attacks performed with total impunity
21:19by the U.S. and Israel coalition,
21:21the Palestinian people keep suffering the most brutal genocide ever witnessed by humanity.
21:28It has been broadcasted ever since it kicked off on October of 2023.
21:34Let's not forget that in the midst of these circumstances, the Syrian regime and the U.S. are trying to
21:43divert attention from this crucial violation of international law
21:48and the imposition of a brutal genocide on a population that the ones who have been the greatest victims of
21:57this genocide and this ethnic cleansing have been elderly people,
22:01have been children as well.
22:03And this is the true face of the Sionist regime that has had ever since, and for decades, the support
22:10of the U.S. successive administrations.
22:16Let's not forget that the previous administration of President Joe Biden was the main ally of the Sionist regime in
22:23performing this ongoing genocide against the people of Palestine.
22:27It was their main supplier, their main defender as well.
22:31Let's not forget that throughout the United States there have been massive demonstrations in support of the Palestinian cause and
22:39they were brutally massacred and they were brutally as well repressed by police forces nationwide
22:45and with grave consequences for those who actively participated and were the main leaders, the main backers of these demonstrations
22:55in support of the Palestinian cause and we are seeing similar images not just in the United States but also
23:02throughout the world.
23:03The people are uniting and the people are saying that enough is enough.
23:08It is a very and highly concerning, crucial moment for humanity in this moment.
23:14And this event, this escalation of hostilities in the Middle East has already grave consequences.
23:24Let's recall that the Ormus strait which is key for the passage of oil tankers from the Middle East towards
23:31the rest of the world is at this moment blockaded by Iran and Yemen regarding these circumstances,
23:39this escalation of hostilities against Iran and this is provoking for example that dozens of American ships remain halted off
23:50the coast of Iran, Iraq, Kuwait and also the United Arab Emirates while more than a hundred oil tankers are
23:58waiting outside the strait.
24:00Three violating as well, three violating as well in the main highlights of the day, let's inform as well that
24:07three violating US and British oil tankers were hit by missiles and are burning in the Persian Gulf and strait
24:16of Ormus.
24:18This is what everything that has been occupying the main headlines throughout the world, the whole world has its eyes
24:28upon the Middle East at this moment just the same as it happened on June 2025 when once again Israel
24:36decided to launch an unprovoked attack on Iran, a nation that has never attacked any other country.
24:46They have been put in the country, they have been put in the country, they have been put in the
24:48scope on the nuclear program of Iran, however Israel and the United States have been the ones who own precisely
24:57a nuclear weapon.
24:58The US is the only nation in the world that has ever used one against a country, another country, let's
25:06not forget Hiroshima and Nagasaki as well.
25:11And let's also not forget that this is happening as well in a context in which the US is entering
25:22an electoral year with midterms ahead of us in a few months, we are just a few months away from
25:31the midterm elections.
25:33And this is proving that the US is trying as well to divert attention from many domestic circumstances, conflicts that
25:47the US is living through at this very moment.
25:50And for example, for example, the massive demonstrations in rejection of the US anti-immigrant policies, we've seen thousands taken
26:01into the streets and also following the deadly crackdown that have been performed by ICE authorities against these demonstrators.
26:11And also these raids that they are performing in order to deport migrants in the nation have been very deadly,
26:20have also left a death toll of at least eight people dead during these raids and also during these demonstrations.
26:29This also it is happening in a context in which also the US is leading and is also performing a
26:42thorough investigation into what is called the Epstein files.
26:48One of the most huge scandals, one of the most huge scandals regarding pedophilia and sex assaults on minors as
26:57well.
26:58And throughout these documents, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, has been long mentioned.
27:04And many believe, many analysts believe that this attack on Iran and this policy of hatred and also of invasions
27:17and attacks on other nations worldwide.
27:20Let's not forget that this is not an isolated event.
27:23The US and the US president ever since he took office in January 2025 for his second term, he has
27:33been trying to attack or harassing or imposing threats on nations worldwide such as, for example, Greenland and Canada as
27:45well and Mexico and Nicaragua, Cuba, Venezuela.
27:49There is a long list of countries worldwide that have been targeted in one way or another by the US
27:58hatred, the US president hatred statements.
28:02And also let's not forget the imposition of economic tariffs as well nationwide that is also putting at risk even
28:11the economy of his co-nationals of the US people.
28:16This is the panorama that the world is facing today.
28:21We are seeing with great concern what is happening.
28:24If you are joining us in this broadcast at this moment, we are seeing images of the aftermath of the
28:30recent retaliatory attacks performed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps on Israel at this moment.
28:44It is having a huge impact as well regarding the demonstration of Iran's capacity in defending itself from the Zionist
28:59and the US coalition.
29:01Let's recall that these circumstances began on the early hours of February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel, they
29:16both launched at the moment a major combat operation against Iran that included pre-emptive strikes, as they said, on
29:26military targets in Teheran and other cities.
29:28However, these took place in an illegal manner.
29:32The US and Iran were holding negotiations that were abruptly broken just one day after these deadly attacks.
29:42Looks like the US was actually gaining some time to attack the Persian nation without respecting, actually, diplomacy, without respecting
29:52as well international law.
29:54And this was also a clear violation of a sovereign state.
29:59And also, both Israel and Iran have, so far, have closed their airspace.
30:08Israel declared as well a national state of emergency.
30:11The reports as well indicated that the main leaders of Iran, following the closest hours to the first attack, they
30:22were moved to safe places, to safe spaces.
30:27However, in these attacks that were over 1,000 targeted places with over 1,000 bombs from the US and
30:40Israel coalition, they reached the residence of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
30:49It was the main highlight of February 28th.
30:55The huge commotion that has been happening and that the world has seen in the past hours after the announcement,
31:05the official announcement of the death of the Supreme Leader,
31:08that has been spreading as well throughout the world with Muslims and not even Muslims, that do not require to
31:18profess the belief of Islamism,
31:25to feel sensitive about the losing of the highest political and religious figure from the Middle East that was sacred
31:39for many, for thousands of people in the Middle East.
31:43This is a huge violation to the dignity of the people from the Muslim and Arab world as well.
31:52And it has been condemned worldwide by social movements, political figures, but also from the common people.
32:01We've seen and we can feel the emotions and the suffering as well of the people following this event, these
32:15tragic events as well.
32:17This also, ever since these attacks happened, reports indicated that thousands of demonstrators have taken into the streets in Teheran
32:31invisible support of the Iranian government
32:35in the context of the ongoing regional conflict and in the context of the ongoing attacks, unprovoked attacks on Iran.
32:47These crowds gather in central squares and also with solidarity.
33:01And I've been informed that in this context, we are going to make a contact with our correspondent in the
33:09Middle East, Junius Sooner.
33:11Hello Junius, what can you share with us at this crucial hour for the Middle East?
33:16Hello, good evening, good night from here, good afternoon to you.
33:21The conflict in the Middle East after the Israeli US attack on Iran continues with both sides continuing their attacks
33:34on each other.
33:35Tonight, we have just recently received reports that a missile barrage has been started from Iran towards Israel
33:45and there has been missile impact in the western parts of Jerusalem, where according to first reports, seven people were
33:58injured in the occupied, in the Israeli occupied city of Jerusalem.
34:03There is a lot of crisis situation ongoing inside Israel right now.
34:09The government has announced to close all entry to the Gaza Strip, which will also stop all aid from entering
34:18the Strip to the occupied Gaza Strip.
34:22Also, the government announced to extend the emergency measures in place until March 12th, that is in 10 days due
34:31to the conflict.
34:32The main airport of the country, Ben Gurion, will be closed until March 6th.
34:38And more importantly, the Israeli government has, according to Israeli press, called 100,000 reservists to the duty in the
34:50armed forces, especially to enforce the northern border.
34:56This comes among the question whether the Lebanese Hezbollah, which is part of the axis of resistance, might join the
35:08war against Israel.
35:10Because Hezbollah follows the line, considers the supreme leader Ali Khamenei, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as its own spiritual leader as
35:21well.
35:21And today, there was a declaration by the Secretary General of the organization, Hezbollah, by Sheikh Naim Qasim, who said
35:31that his organization will follow the steps of Ali Khamenei.
35:37So, Israel is preparing for further impacts, as I said, the missiles are right now flying towards Israel from Iran.
35:51The so-called Iron Dome, the air defense system of Israel, which is supported by U.S. airplanes and as
36:00well as a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean, is obviously failing.
36:06Already yesterday, there were missile impacts in the Israeli territory causing panic among the population and also disagreements with the
36:19policy.
36:19But elsewhere in the Middle East, we have also a number of crises due to the retaliation of Iran against
36:28this attack by the United States and Israel.
36:32Let us remind our watchers that before this attack happened, the Iranian authorities repeatedly had warned that should their country
36:41be attacked, they will respond in a region-wide manner.
36:45That is, not only attacking Israel, but also U.S. military bases.
36:50And some of them have also today been attacked, for instance, in Ukraine, and we have a number of crises
37:00emerging in the Gulf countries.
37:03For instance, the authorities in the Gulf countries of the United Arab Emirates have announced that they will close the
37:21financial markets which are due to open until further notice.
37:27That is, that is, the financial markets of the United Arab Emirates, an important financial center in the Gulf, have
37:34been closed and they closed until we don't know when.
37:38Similar situation happened in Kuwait, where the financial market, the banking system, had been closed temporarily.
37:46This indicates there is an evolving, emerging economic crisis in these countries, which, again, do base U.S. military bases.
37:57That is, that are part of the U.S.
37:59That is what the Iranian authorities repeatedly underlined, that they do not attack these countries as such, that they do
38:08not consider these countries as hostile or enemy countries, but they do attack the U.S. military bases, which are
38:19located inside these countries and which take part in the offensive against Iran.
38:25So, we have a continuing conflict here ongoing, there are also reports about attacks on some oil tankers, because Iran
38:36had warned oil tankers of entering the Persian Arab Gulf.
38:41So, we have unconfirmed reports about three oil tankers belonging to the United States and the United Kingdom that were
38:50attacked and that are in part burning.
38:53But these are, as I said, not yet confirmed reports.
38:57What we do, can already report, is that the oil price has already, on this Sunday, in the free market,
39:06risen up to $80 a barrel, which is increased by exactly 10% from the $73 a barrel had cost
39:16on Friday.
39:17And indication is that it might even increase further, with, of course, serious economic costs for the Western world.
39:27In that context, the United Kingdom, France and Germany have stated in a joint declaration, that they are ready to
39:37fight Iranian defense capabilities, which indicates the U.S. military deployment to the Middle East as such,
39:46and the Israeli defense capabilities are not enough to fight the Iranian retaliation for now, as is also indicated or
39:59demonstrated by the missile impact in West Jerusalem.
40:02Also, Yunus, the U.S. have martyred the most sacred figure of Islam, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
40:10How is the region reacting to this news?
40:14How would you describe the sentiment of the people over 24 hours after the first attacks were launched on Iran?
40:22Yes.
40:23The Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is, of course, a sacred figure, first of all, for the entire Shia population, which is
40:31a current inside Islam.
40:34So it's their spiritual leader comparable to what the Pope is for the Catholics.
40:40So for these people, this is an incredible, unacceptable, heartbreaking month, which causes an incredible amount of anger among them,
40:55especially happening holy month of Ramadan, which comes on top of it.
41:02So the Shia populations in Iran, of course, but also in Iraq, there's a huge, the majority of Iraq is
41:09Shia in Lebanon, there's a Shia population in Pakistan, there's a Shia population.
41:15They are all in protests, but the anger is not limited to them or the Sunni population inside Islam.
41:25The Ayatollah is not as such a sacred figure.
41:30He's just one theologically important person, but he's not the supreme leader for the Sunni population.
41:37Despite that, I talked today with a journalist from Pakistan, a huge Islamic country with the majority being Sunni, not
41:47Shia.
41:47And she said to me that also among the Sunni population, the Ayatollah had gained a huge reputation due to
41:56his clear positioning in the Palestine issue due to his defense of the Palestinian cause.
42:03And of course, also for being an Islamic authority.
42:08So also among the Sunni population, I'm speaking now about the populations, not the governments, there is increasing anger about
42:17this assassination.
42:18And there are emerging protests everywhere over the Middle East from, of course, Iran.
42:26There are protests in Iraq in front of the Green Zone inside which the U.S. Embassy is located.
42:34There are protests here in Turkey where people have taken to the front of the U.S. Embassy and the
42:43U.S. Consulate both in Ankara and Istanbul to demonstrate their anger.
42:48These demonstrations were not at all religious.
42:50They were made by leftists, actually.
42:54There are protests in Pakistan, in the city of Karachi and Lahore and the city of Karachi.
43:02These protests turned out deadly for a number of protesters because there was fire.
43:08They were fired upon.
43:10And according to some sources, even it was the U.S. Marine personnel in the consulate that fired upon these
43:18protesters, killing at least nine of them.
43:21This is still under investigation by the Pakistani authorities.
43:24We have no clear result of that yet, but eyewitnesses have told this.
43:29So there is a huge way of protest coming up against the U.S. authorities over the entire region of
43:38the Middle East, West Asia.
43:39Also, recently, the U.S.-Israeli strikes targeted the headquarters of Iran's state broadcasting authority in Teheran.
43:47On your opinion, what does this mean?
43:50Why the U.S. and Israel are trying, and we've seen this as well during the genocide in Gaza, they
43:57are targeting the media.
43:59And why is that happening?
44:03Of course, because every war is also a propaganda war.
44:08And actually, we noticed that today, for instance, TENTCOM, which is the military authority of the United States for the
44:16Middle East, has started communicating a lot more than before.
44:20And attacking the Iranian broadcasting station is part of that.
44:25What they want to do is to silence their opponents, to silence the voice of the Iranian resistance, both inside
44:34Iran as well as its voice towards outside.
44:37This is the communication part of the war, and this is very logical and predictable from the U.S. side
44:48as the aggressor.
44:50They are not only the aggressors in terms of bombing schools and bombing government buildings and civilian institutions, but also
44:58bombing the media.
44:59And we have witnessed several examples of this kind of communication war, which turned into a deadly war, deadly attacks
45:08against journalists, for instance, also in the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli occupation force has killed dozens of journalists who
45:16were just doing their job reporting from the circumstances that were prevailing in the Gaza Strip.
45:22And they were killed by Israeli soldiers or by Israeli authorities.
45:26Thank you very much, Yunus, for your insight in the context of everything that is happening and is unfolding in
45:32the Middle East after this attack on Iran.
45:37You're welcome.
45:38We were live at this moment listening to statements of our correspondent in the Middle East, Yunus, sooner in the
45:44context of the constant evolution of everything that is happening in the Middle East with the unprovoked attack on Iran
45:53by the U.S. and Israel coalition,
45:56we were moments before we were speaking to our correspondent, we were seeing live images of retaliatory actions of Iran
46:02on Tel Aviv, the capital of Israel.
46:05This is all for the moment.
46:07Stay tuned with TELASUR English for everything related to this very concerning event in the Middle East.
