00:05The most significant development in the WACA's 131 year history, a $189 million precinct
00:13featuring lifestyle and wellness facilities, a gym, water slides, splash park and a resort
00:18style pool unveiled for the first time.
00:21This has been a project that had some false starts but then under the leadership of Chris
00:25Matthews, we developed this vision together and now to see the delivery of that vision
00:32is something I couldn't be more proud.
00:33The project, jointly funded by the federal and state governments, the City of Perth, WA
00:38Cricket, Cricket Australia and Lottery West, began in 2021 when the historic Inverarity
00:44stand was demolished.
00:45The printable stand followed before construction started in December 2023.
00:51Assigned from the public facilities, the project includes a high performance centre, elite
00:55training and recovery facilities and a 10 lane indoor centre.
00:59We're going to invite clubs in to use the facilities, especially during the winter.
01:03There's a great demand for indoor centres during the winter for clubs so it's going to transform
01:09cricket around Western Australia but also around the country.
01:13We've got a high performance hub here so we want to make sure that it's available for everyone.
01:17The redevelopment is part of the $1.8 billion Perth City deal which included the building
01:22of the new Edith Cowan University campus.
01:25The opening comes just five days before the WACA hosts a women's test between Australia and India.
01:30The opening comes just five days before the new Edith Cowan University, and it's more than five days before Australia
01:30and the new Edith Cowan University.
