00:54silkway rally is a 10-day rally we start here in russia and we travel around five and a half
00:58thousand kilometers to mongolia this is my first time here so it's it's a cool experience and i'm
01:07looking forward to the start it's in july so it's opposite from the dakar in terms of calendar
01:15it's more on the east side and that's the only big one we have here in this region it's also
01:22hard to
01:23cross sometimes two three borders and it's a huge also organization to try to succeed then
01:32after back a race is the biggest one that the rain is really demanding it's a good mix normally
01:37starting in russia with the forest then jumping to mongolia getting dry riverbeds
01:43really fast and nice dunes we have 10 days races this year was planned and without rest day so it's
01:50demanding for drivers and also for the mechanic it's really hard it's a proper rally
02:01red bull motorsports is normally represented by nearly a dozen drivers and riders but recent injuries
02:08have reduced the lineup on the bikes australian daniel chucky sanders no longer a rookie now in his
02:16second race of the first full rally season the veteran austrian dakar winner matthias vorkner one of the
02:24favorites for the win
02:28and in the trucks of course the mighty blue armada the kamaz master team racing on their home soil here

02:37russia dmitry sotnikov and anton shibolov both have big ambitions for silkway's success
02:56while there's just one rally there's many ways to compete similar to the dakar multiple disciplines
03:04take to the same stages in the hope of lifting the tiger trophy

03:26it's four types of vehicles it's always the same principle there's a scratch a chrono
03:35and it's the fastest who is winning it's always like that and the rest of the pack they just follow

04:07i expect a lot because all the people who was already there for me is the first time they say

04:20and i expect really really cool landscape especially from mongolia
04:26but now is really the calm before the storm when you go to the opening ceremony and you see all
04:34the
04:34people the happy faces the super russian crowd they are really really motivated and then the motivation goes up
04:48we expect from today's podium a good welcome to all the residents of omsk because in russia we have a
04:55lot of
04:55sufferers for them very rare moments in this area and it's a great chance to see so many
05:02interesting techniques and people
05:14any rally veteran will tell you the job starts as soon as you step off the plane and the days
05:19before the
05:20race are full of technical checks paperwork and a process known as scrutineering where the fia
05:26and fim officials certify the vehicles fit to compete
05:49race day is here
05:51in front of the gathering crowds on the outskirts of omsk riders make the final preparations
05:59anticipation and energy are both sky high and then they get on the gas
06:12in the next hours over 100 different race vehicles enter the stage
06:19hard off-road pistes through a tight and twisty siberian forest with zero room for error
06:26and as expected it was plenty of mud
06:31you see nothing just the mother you try to remove your cleaners but you can't see
06:38of course all that mud wasn't enough to stop the blue armada
06:41but the big story daniel sanders takes his first ever stage win a reason to celebrate even this early
06:50in the race
06:57while everything seemed to be going well the night before stage three brought a big surprise
07:02and it was not a good one
07:13and it was a pity to know that we're not possible to jump to mongolia but of course we understand
07:32that
07:32these political decisions about safety or whatever so the organizers are responsible
07:38about this they know what they're doing so we have to trust on them
07:43it's a huge deception for everybody
07:49a compromise is found the fia and fim will allow the rally organizers to rerun two stages giving them
07:57enough days of competition to award points
08:00stage three the last stage that requires real navigation and the final chance for matthias
08:06walkner to put his experience and skills to good use
08:10today is the last really rally stage where you have to make focus on the navigation and the other
08:18days is more pushing on tracks but in the end i enjoy a lot the landscape was really cool to
08:25see all the people around here they was really motivated
08:40stages three and four are now combined for a so-called marathon stage
08:45stage meaning only the riders or race crew can service the vehicles not the mechanics
08:51these two stages take place in the stunning altai mountains featuring breathtaking views
08:57and chilling river crossings true rally raid
09:19on the first run they'll learn the terrain
09:24the second run is just a question of who is willing to push the hardest
09:48for commands master team it was a great test of their new k5 model truck
09:54that was nowhere more apparent than at the river where the kmaz trucks went full sent
10:07solid performances on these days puts ktm in a strong position to win the rally
10:12but mostly they're just happy to be out racing again
10:27after the 2020 season being like almost completely cancelled we're just super lucky to be finally
10:34back racing and i think you can see this
10:40the atmosphere within the whole team is amazing we have a super team spirit and everybody's just
10:46happy to be back and win races again
10:53the red bull ktm team have so much experience over many years
11:01and i also think it's super important to have the right passion for racing the relationship between
11:09ktm and gasgas is really close we have like also the same people involved in in both teams
11:15take it easy yeah
11:18matthias and daniel is like they do they get along really well
11:24everyone's just trying to help out each other and to achieve the best results
11:29yeah my sport shows me what is really important in life when you meeting these nice people with so
11:38much nice energy
11:42you can join this crazy nice moment it gives you so much back that you get really calm and just
11:50be
11:50happy to continue in this direction we spend so much time together when you compare it to other races
11:58they spend weekends together like they have more races but we are just like here for weeks
12:05and this really gets you to know everyone so much better and this is what i like most about rally
12:10it's very important to have a good time and i think that's the key for winning races for sure
12:17to keep the balance between like having fun at the races and also winning and all this is i think
12:24it's quite easy it comes like automatically we all know what we have to do when the race mode is
12:28on
12:29everybody switches
12:44if there's any definition of rally raid racing it's this expect the unexpected but in this race the
12:52unexpected arrived in a surprising way these drivers and riders are rallying on a stage they already know
12:59which means it's going to come down to one thing speed
13:08volkner's meticulous approach to riding brought him home first overall
13:16daniel sanders just missed out on a podium finish
13:21for dimitri sotnikov he was solid under pressure the entire kermas master team counted on him
13:28to bring home a win for their new truck every person here part of our result and without them it's
13:36impossible
13:41for team camas master two trucks on the podium first and third marking a very special victory on home turf
13:50so i think i will shake it to give everybody the smell and taste of the champagne victory on an
13:56event as
13:57tough as the silkway rally always tastes so sweet
