They play lovers in new Prime Video series 'Vanished', but could Kaley Cuoco and Sam Claflin be father and daughter in a Frank and Nancy Sinatra movie? NME catches up with the pair to chat favourite albums, lip-sync disasters and, surprisingly, parenting tips.

00:00You see that?
00:00They're here now!
00:01You look very handsome.
00:03Oh, thank you.
00:04I like your whole look.
00:05Thank you, thank you so much.
00:06I mean, you don't have cow socks on, like the last guy, but...
00:08He had cow socks on.
00:09He did, and they really...
00:10You said that like it was a bad thing.
00:11Well, you might want to get some cow socks.
00:14I like the grey socks.
00:17My boyfriend's missing.
00:19Please, help me.
00:20There are three major reasons people disappear.
00:24Work,
00:26money,
00:27and relationships.
00:30Like, we'd never do that.
00:31Hi, I'm Alex from NME,
00:33and today I'm joined by the stars of new thriller series, Vanished.
00:36It's Kaylee Cuoco and Sam Claflin.
00:39How we doing?
00:40Good.
00:40Wonderful.
00:41In episode one of Vanished, Kaylee,
00:43you really nail that gut-churning, panicky moment
00:47when you realize that someone's not there,
00:50or something's really wrong.
00:51And it kind of reminded me, watching it,
00:53of when I sort of...
00:55I have this memory of getting lost in the supermarket
00:57when I was a kid.
00:57Terrific.
00:58And you turn around from looking at,
00:59I think it was like Coco Pops or something.
01:01Yeah.
01:01And going, where the hell are they?
01:03Where's my mom?
01:03Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:04I wonder whether you had any memories that you kind of drew on
01:06for that experience.
01:08I'm always a bit lost in general.
01:11So I'm always a little wondering what's going on.
01:14I don't ever quite know what's going on, to be honest,
01:18and I happily live like that.
01:20No, I like that sort of character.
01:22I like, you know, a big-eyed,
01:24where the hell is everybody running for her life?
01:26I like the world spinning around me.
01:28I like those sort of characters,
01:29and that's the sort of TV I like to watch.
01:31So it was intriguing to me.
01:33You know, I kept trying to push the comedy in this one,
01:36but no one would let me.
01:37This was one of those.
01:38This is not funny.
01:39I tried, desperately.
01:41But, and I liked that it was four episodes.
01:43There were a lot of things that were enticing to me,
01:46and being able to be in France and work with Sam
01:48and the lovely director that we had.
01:50And I don't know.
01:51It just was like, I'm just so happy that I did it.
01:53It was like a great experience for so many different reasons.
01:55Checked a lot of boxes.
01:56I realize I'm just telling you my own memories.
01:58Oh yeah, you asked me a question.
02:00I didn't answer what you said.
02:01Did you have a memory?
02:03Of being lost.
02:04Yeah.
02:05Always.
02:05Yeah.
02:06I kind of live like that.
02:08I didn't.
02:08So that's kind of how I go,
02:09I have a lot of people guiding me along.
02:13Please Sam here.
02:14This way.
02:15It's the only reason I've sat here.
02:16Just laughing this way.
02:18I had another memory of losing my brother
02:21when we were on holiday in France once,
02:23outside of Notre Dame,
02:24which is relevant because this is set in France.
02:26Yes, of course.
02:26And he was suddenly just gone amid a sea of people.
02:29And then we eventually found him when he was,
02:31he was stood on like,
02:32there's like a little statue thing.
02:33He was just going.
02:34That's scary.
02:35That's terrifying.
02:36But you've both got kids, haven't you?
02:39Have you ever lost your kids?
02:39So I wonder whether you'd ever lost your kids like that.
02:41Have you?
02:42Tell us.
02:43Well, well,
02:44there was one time,
02:45it was only in my local park,
02:47there was like a little music festival.
02:50And I just took my son,
02:51who was two maybe,
02:52and my daughter was just born.
02:55And so it was me and my son having a boys day.
02:58And we were in this park watching music.
03:00And I,
03:01and I'm so grateful I did.
03:03I,
03:04because my wife at the time asked sort of,
03:06you know,
03:07how,
03:07how was the,
03:07how was the concert?
03:08And I sort of got my phone out.
03:10And I recorded,
03:12I did.
03:12We went on FaceTime.
03:13I recorded the crowd.
03:15And my,
03:16one of my favorite singers was playing.
03:18And then I looked down and my son was gone.
03:21Oh my dear.
03:21And I was like,
03:22Oh shit.
03:23You know?
03:24So I blame my wife,
03:26ex wife.
03:28but I,
03:28I then started asking people,
03:29did you see a little boy?
03:30Did you see a little boy?
03:31And then I decided to go back and watch the video that I just recorded.
03:36And I was panicking and I saw the top of his little blonde curly hair.
03:41Running off into the distance.
03:42And I went that,
03:43that direction.
03:43And he was with these other kids and they were just all dancing.
03:47So I lost him for like all of two seconds maybe.
03:51The fear moment though is real.
03:52Yeah.
03:52The fear crept in.
03:53And what felt,
03:54what was like two seconds felt like three years had passed.
03:59Yeah.
04:00But actually I managed to keep my calm and cool.
04:04And beyond that I've,
04:06I've not lost anyone.
04:09That's good.
04:10My dog now,
04:11cause she,
04:12she's hard of hearing and also losing her eyesight.
04:15So taking her for a walk,
04:17however,
04:17is,
04:18I'm so used to being able to call her name and she'll,
04:21she'll immediately come to me.
04:22Whereas now I call her name.
04:24And it's like,
04:24she sort of vaguely hears and then sees a figure and runs towards whatever figure is nearest to her.
04:30I'm like,
04:30no,
04:30you're running the wrong direction.
04:31Oh baby.
04:32So,
04:33yeah.
04:33So this is quite triggering for you.
04:34This was very true.
04:37Very close to home.
04:38I was pleased to see in the first episode,
04:40the return of the Sam Claflin sideburns slightly.
04:44Last scene.
04:44Is this a thing for you?
04:47Apparently.
04:48I didn't realise that.
04:49There's a whole website dedicated.
04:51Last scene in Daisy Jones and the Six,
04:53of course.
04:54Oh.
04:54Have you also been keeping up on the guitar playing?
04:57I haven't,
04:58no.
04:59Do you know what?
05:00Actually, that's a lie.
05:02Recently,
05:02I've started reintroducing it into my life.
05:06Basically,
05:06I got so sick of playing the songs from the show,
05:10because I'd played them every day,
05:12every single day,
05:12for like a year and a half.
05:14And I think when the show finished,
05:15I just couldn't hear them anymore.
05:18and then,
05:19because I moved house,
05:20the guitars got put into my attic.
05:22And I only recently,
05:23I brought them back down.
05:25And,
05:26and I,
05:27you know,
05:27for Christmas,
05:28I bought my son his first,
05:29like electric drum set.
05:30And my daughter,
05:31I bought her a keyboard.
05:32So now we're starting to like,
05:35introduce that into our house.
05:36Both you can put headphones into.
05:37We're just kidding.
05:38Exactly.
05:39You know,
05:40this is it.
05:40This is it.
05:41Have you got any musical talents?
05:43No.
05:43Why do I keep getting asked that?
05:47It's because we all know you are hiding it.
05:49The one thing I don't do.
05:50We're hiding it.
05:51Come on,
05:51be honest with us.
05:52No,
05:53I have no musical talents.
05:55None.
05:55Well,
05:56that lip sync battle was pretty good.
05:57Yeah,
05:58but that's not singing.
05:59Yeah,
05:59but I'm still a talent.
06:01I didn't win.
06:02Thanks for bringing that up.
06:03Who are you again?
06:04Josh Gad.
06:06I killed a snake.
06:07I was Britney Spears with the snake.
06:09I had a real snake around my neck.
06:11I should have won just for that.
06:12Yeah.
06:13I mean,
06:13how do you not win?
06:14Did you do the full dance?
06:15Of course.
06:15Oh my God.
06:16And Josh Gad.
06:17Oh my God.
06:18I still,
06:19I'm still angry about that.
06:21Josh Gad though.
06:22I mean,
06:23he's literally Olaf in Frozen.
06:26Olaf's an asshole.
06:27He's a real dick.
06:29That fucking snowman.
06:32There has to be an explanation for all of this.
06:34Maybe I can help.
06:36I've been investigating him.
06:38You don't know,
06:39Tom.
06:40Do you?
06:42We ask this of everyone we interview at Enemy because New Musical Express with Music Magazine.
06:46Oh.
06:47I don't understand the question.
06:49I should have explained that first.
06:52I thought you knew what Enemy was.
06:54Oh, sorry.
06:55But the question we always ask is,
06:57is there an album that you always go back to?
06:59Mine always is Fleetwood Mac Rumours.
07:02What is?
07:03It's just like,
07:03I can't,
07:04I wish,
07:05I wish I had a different answer.
07:07I'm bored of myself saying this answer.
07:08But Fleetwood Mac,
07:10Fleetwood Mac,
07:11not only a nostalgic,
07:12because my mum and dad used to listen to them in the car all the time.
07:15It's just,
07:16I think after doing Daisy Jones and the Six,
07:19like it really just,
07:20yeah,
07:21it just sort of reignited that,
07:23my love for them.
07:24Did you learn to play any of them?
07:25No,
07:26not yet.
07:26Not yet,
07:27I will say.
07:28They're quite hard.
07:28Yeah.
07:29I'm trying to think what mine would be.
07:31I have such an array of,
07:32I love all types of music,
07:33but I've been actually listening to Sinatra lately.
07:36Amazing.
07:36Yeah,
07:37in the car.
07:38And my daughter is like,
07:39so into it.
07:40That's what De Niro said when we asked him.
07:43Oh really?
07:43It's good company I think.
07:44Oh,
07:45that's nice.
07:46You and Bob.
07:47Yeah.
07:48No,
07:49I think I would say that.
07:50I think I would say old Frank.
07:52I thought you might say,
07:53because I read that you had a bit of a thing for Taylor's 1989.
07:57I love that album.
07:57Yeah.
07:58Oh,
07:58I ripped that out too,
07:59for sure.
07:59I think that's one of her best.
08:01Oh God,
08:02they're going to say I hate everything else now.
08:03I love all her music,
08:04but that is a great,
08:06that's a classic.
08:07Who's they?
08:07I don't know.
08:09There's always a they.
08:10There's always someone.
08:10There's someone out there who's going to be mad,
08:12but you know.
08:13Alright then,
08:13final question and I'll let you go.
08:15Is there a musician,
08:17a singer,
08:18an artist,
08:18who you'd love to play in a film or TV show?
08:21Real life.
08:22Well,
08:22just because I think his life was pretty magnificent,
08:27I think Sinatra would be an incredible story.
08:30Oh yeah.
08:30I don't think I'm right to play Sinatra,
08:32but I would love to see that film,
08:34I should say.
08:35I think his story and his alleged ties to the Mafia,
08:40you know,
08:41I just feel like there's so much story to tell.
08:43And I think as a singer,
08:45songwriter,
08:47entertainer,
08:48like it was such a force.
08:49That would be really cool.
08:51The Mafia stuff probably went over your daughter's head in the car.
08:54The Mafia stuff?
08:54Yeah, a little bit.
08:55She was well aware.
08:56She's very ahead of her time,
08:58gosh, very smart.
08:59I don't know,
08:59who could I play?
09:00Blondie?
09:01Nancy Sinatra.
09:03Do you know I almost said that?
09:04You took it out of my mouth,
09:05I almost said that.
09:06Where'd I go?
09:07In the same film.
09:08I'll play Nancy.
09:09Okay, that's good.
09:10I like that better.
09:11Dolly Parton.
09:12Oh yes.
09:13Oh yeah.
09:13She's such a queen.
09:14That is a great idea.
09:16Have you ever met Dolly,
09:17been in the same room as her?
09:18No, but I am in love with her.
09:19I just hear the nicest things about her.
09:21You know what I love about her?
09:22Her and her husband live in separate houses.
09:24I know he's passed,
09:25but she always talked about that and always,
09:27they were together forever and I'm like,
09:29that's how to do it.
09:29That's it.
09:30Just live in different homes.
09:31You could be next door.
09:32It's great.
09:33Knock, knock.
09:34Let's have dinner.
09:35Let's go.
09:35Although, Heather Le Bonham Carter and Tim Burton
09:38used to do that.
09:38They used to have a walkway that went between the houses.
09:42That's actually cool too.
09:43Like a moving walkway?
09:44I think they continued living next door to each other.
09:46Oh really?
09:47They had kids and I think the kids could then.
09:48Oh.
09:49Yeah, let's give them a little credit.
09:50They had a long relationship.
09:51They did, yeah.
09:51That's something to be said.
09:53Fair play then.
09:54You could get one of those moving walkways like in the airport.
09:58That just lead into your other entrance.
10:01Going to bed now.
10:02Yes.
10:02Or you put like a, you know, I'm going to send you something, you just put it on the walkway.
10:06I like this.
10:07That always reminds me of Spike Lee loves that shot where he puts someone on the moving walkway
10:11and has the camera there.
10:12That's cool.
10:12Have you ever had to do anything like that?
10:14No.
10:15Very specific.
10:15I've always wanted one of those, you know those cameras that attach to you and they're
10:17sort of in your face.
10:19That's cool.
10:19And you see the stress.
10:21That's cool.
10:22But no, I've never had anything like that.
10:24No, me either.
10:24That was on The Nightingale I think.
10:26Did you have one like that?
10:27It was a bit where you were freaking out or maybe that was Ashling.
10:30No.
10:30I can't remember.
10:30It might have been Ashling.
10:32I don't think I have.
10:32You do know your stuff though.
10:34You're well informed.
10:35The last time I interviewed Sam was for that film.
10:37Do you remember him?
10:38And I was watching it last time.
10:40That was a very dark time.
10:42Fair.
10:43Which one is this?
10:44The Nightingale.
10:46Is it dark?
10:46It's dark.
10:47Oh, I like dark.
10:48I'm going to watch that.
10:49It was too dark for me.
10:50Really?
10:50Yeah.
10:52At the time I was like, I want to challenge myself.
10:54I went too far.
10:56Okay.
10:56For my comfort.
10:58Wow, interesting.
10:59The role I played was horrendous.
11:01I kind of want to watch it.
11:02Fantastic.
11:02But maybe if you've got young children.
11:04Yeah.
11:04It was the first script I read after my son was born.
11:08And I still chose to do it, which is a bit messed up.
11:11Well, you're a terrible person.
11:12I am.
11:13So that's why you made a terrible decision.
11:14I am.
11:14I really am.
11:15But we knew that already.
11:17Thanks so much.
11:18Thanks.
11:20I have to uncover what's going on.
11:24Tom!
11:25This is much bigger than just me.
11:27No!
11:29Do not trust anyone.
11:33Oh my God.
11:39I need to find him.
11:41You can find him.
11:41I'm not my God.
11:43But we are all doing that.
11:44I'm not my God.
11:44I don't trust anyone.
11:44So.
11:46Let me see you here.
11:46To you now go into the correct way.
11:47I'm not my God.
11:48I'm not my God.
11:48And I'm coming back.
11:48I'm out of here.
