00:00I have something embarrassing to say which is I don't need glasses and I have really
00:04good eyesight and I feel really embarrassed and pathetic because I love the way glasses
00:09look and these are clear lenses, I'm so sorry, I'm an imposter.
00:15I want to feel like it's me and them.
00:19You love that.
00:20I love that.
00:24I'm Alex from Enemy and today I'm joined by a real enemy day dot fave.
00:29It's the one and only Billie Eilish.
00:31Hi, how are you?
00:32How are you doing?
00:32Doing good.
00:33In celebration of Enemy and your long history, I thought we'd start by taking a trip down memory lane.
00:39Let's do it.
00:40Do you remember doing this cover?
00:43Of course.
00:44In 2019.
00:46Oh, little tiny girl.
00:48Baby Billie.
00:50Wow, darkness.
00:52Darkness falls across the land.
00:54Yeah, of course I remember this shoot.
00:56I think I was 16?
00:5816?
00:5817?
00:5916.
01:00I don't know, something like that.
01:01What do you remember about that time and what differences do you see between the Billie
01:05there and the one in this new film?
01:07Have you changed?
01:08Oh my god.
01:10So many differences.
01:12You know, I'm still that girl, so that's not different.
01:15But like, yeah, I think like, I mean, think about how much has frickin changed since then.
01:21It's insane to think about.
01:22That's like eight years ago, right?
01:24You gonna bring the green hair back?
01:26That?
01:27That shade?
01:28God, I don't know.
01:29I have actually no idea what the hell I'm doing with my hair in the future.
01:32But that was kind of a good one.
01:34That was an accident.
01:35That hair color was not meant to happen.
01:37But it did.
01:38So let's talk about the film then.
01:39Let's do it.
01:40So, so good.
01:42Such a brand new kind of experience having the 3D and James Cameron shooting.
01:46And some of the ideas like in the box.
01:48So good.
01:49One of the first things I kind of noticed obviously was all the phones are gigs.
01:54Yeah.
01:55But there's been a lot of talk about that after Coachella and kind of how people maybe aren't
02:00dancing as much.
02:00But in this film I was watching and everyone was jumping at the same time.
02:04Oh yeah.
02:04So I was kind of thinking, do you think those fans who are doing that kind of thing are getting
02:08a bad rap maybe?
02:09Because they can have fun and shoot it to watch later as well.
02:12Yeah.
02:13I just think like that's what it's like.
02:17Like we, you know, I think it's like my generation and the generations below.
02:22Like we love to film stuff.
02:24Like all I do is film stuff and take pictures of everything all the time.
02:28But it's so you can relive it, isn't it?
02:30Yes.
02:30That's why.
02:31That's the whole point of going to a concert, isn't it?
02:32I mean I guess some people do it for a cloud or whatever, but who cares?
02:37Of course.
02:38That's appealing.
02:40Like I get that.
02:40And also, it's like you want to share what you experience.
02:45And for me, I mean when I would go to concerts or festivals or whatever I would go to, like
02:51I would film every single minute of it.
02:53And you know what I would do?
02:54I would watch every single video that I took over and over and over and over until I had
03:00this audio of the crowd memorized.
03:03Like I think that that's, you know, not to be poo-pooed, you know?
03:08Yeah.
03:08It's like it's an important part of the culture is that we are all on our goddamn phones and
03:14it keeps us connected, you know?
03:15It does.
03:16It's like yes, there are huge cons and like social media is dark, but like the idea that
03:21we get to share through the internet and like I wouldn't have a career without the internet.
03:25I wouldn't, I wouldn't have, I wouldn't have fans.
03:28I wouldn't have the connection that I do without the internet to them.
03:31You know what I mean?
03:32Yeah, definitely.
03:34I want to be the artist that I would want to be a fan of.
03:38I can't wait to see this.
03:46One question we always ask in these junkets, is there an album that you always go back
03:50to?
03:51Well, it depends if I'm trying to make myself feel worse or better.
03:55Let's say better.
03:55We don't want to make you feel worse.
03:57Yeah, but you know what though?
03:59On that topic, like, you know, people used to talk about how my music was depressing and
04:06I always thought it was so weird because I was like, yeah, but it makes you feel seen,
04:12you know?
04:12So I guess like my answer would be one of the most depressing albums in the world, which
04:17is Carrie and Lowell by Sufjan Stevens, but it doesn't make you feel depressed.
04:22It makes you feel like there's someone else there and that you have someone and like that
04:28you're with them.
04:29And it's like, there's an intimacy that I think is so powerful.
04:33So that's an album I always go back to.
04:35And you know, I, yes, it, it's like a, it makes me feel deep feelings, but I think that
04:41that's important.
04:42Do you remember when you first heard it?
04:44Honestly, like not that long ago, I think a few years ago.
04:48I was really late to that album.
04:50I had listened to Kazmir Poluski Day, like, since I was like 11.
04:54That's like one of my favorite songs ever.
04:56But I actually hadn't heard Carrie and Lowell.
05:00And then I think a few years ago, I must've heard like Fourth of July or All of Me, Once
05:06All of You, but I'm like, wait, is that John Legend?
05:14But yeah, I don't know that, that album is like life changing.
05:17I can't let you go without asking you for an update on new music, obviously.
05:22Are you working on anything?
05:23Anything you can give to your fans at Enemy?
05:25We are working on new music.
05:27It's happening.
05:28It'll be a second, but we are, we're, we're in, we're in album, deep in album mode.
05:34And it's really fun.
05:35It's actually really fun.
05:36We're having a really good time, which maybe means it'll be shit,
05:39because we're actually having a good time for once in my whole life.
05:42But I don't think so.
05:43I think it'll be good.
05:44Tell me a little bit about maybe the sound.
05:46Is it different?
05:47Honestly, I don't have much to say.
05:48It's like we're, we're, we're right, right in the middle of it.
05:51And it's like, it's feeling really good.
05:54And we're, we're, we're having a good time.
05:56If you could sort of pitch this film in one sentence to people,
06:00that maybe aren't your fans, don't know your music so well,
06:03why they should go and watch it.
06:04What would it be?
06:04I think just out of curiosity, I guess.
06:07Like I like to watch people's, I like watching concert films of artists
06:11that I don't even know or like, and it's fascinating to me.
06:15And it makes me see them differently.
06:16And yeah, I learn a lot from them.
06:20And I think it's important to do that.
06:22I don't know.
06:23I think, I think it's also like fun to go to the movies and see something in 3D.
06:27Like what's not fun about that?
06:29And going with your friends and, you know, getting some candy and some popcorn.
06:33Like it's just such a fun experience.
06:34And also I think the movie's really good.
06:37So there's another reason.
06:38And there is one thing that I think we should tell people who wear glasses like you and me,
06:42which is wear your contact lenses before you go.
06:44Because otherwise you've got two pairs of glasses.
06:46I have something embarrassing to say, which is I don't need glasses.
06:49And I have really good eyesight.
06:51And I feel really embarrassed and pathetic because I love the way glasses look.
06:56They look cool.
06:56And these are clear lenses.
06:57I'm so sorry.
06:58I'm an imposter.
06:59But yeah, you should wear your contact lenses.
07:01You are wearing them right now.
07:02Yeah, I am, yeah.
07:03But when I went to the screening, I forgot, turned up.
07:06You couldn't see.
07:06I was like six eyes, not four eyes.
07:09Oh shit.
07:10Yeah.
07:11Thanks so much for having me today.
07:12It's been a pleasure.
07:13Thank you so much.
07:23The tour is so brutal.
07:25I like to have a puppy room to like go chill in.
07:28I'm doing this on my next movie for sure.
07:30Right?
