00:00Now it's a sit down with Tom Pelfrey.
00:02Hi, Tom.
00:03We got a sneak peek of your new show,
00:05Task, which airs Sundays on HBO Max.
00:07It was created by Brad Inglesby,
00:09who we also have to thank for mayor of Easttown.
00:11In what ways is this role,
00:13unlike any other role you've had before?
00:15Oh, gosh, I mean, I've never done something
00:17that felt so close to home in so many ways.
00:20You know, like the people, the place
00:23reminds me so much of my childhood,
00:26people I grew up with.
00:27Like there's a real sense of home in it
00:31that was so exciting to me and thrilling
00:34and made me so happy to live in that place.
00:37I heard that Kaylee actually read the script
00:40before you even did.
00:41Do you two always read each other's scripts?
00:43Kaylee and I always read each other's scripts.
00:46Just so you know,
00:48because I feel like this thing has gotten taken
00:50a little out of context.
00:51Kaylee and I always, any script she gets,
00:53she sends to me and I read.
00:55Any script I get, I send to her and she reads.
00:57This one in particular, I was very busy at the time.
01:00So I had it waiting for me to read
01:02and I hadn't read it yet.
01:03And she was like, come on, I'm bored.
01:04Give me something.
01:05I was like, I got this script.
01:06You know, you could read it.
01:07And when she read it, she was like,
01:12this is insane.
01:14And she goes like, hold on, hold on.
01:16Did he write this for you?
01:19Like, do you know him?
01:20We both had the same feelings about it,
01:22which is like, I've never been quicker to yell yes.
01:26Love how you're both so involved in each other's projects.
01:29Would you ever work together?
01:31Well, we are interested in that.
01:33It's going to really have to be the right thing.
01:35So it'll probably take a while.
01:37Kaylee tends to live more comedically.
01:41I'm sorry, is that a challenge or are you just dropping a hint that you're single?
01:46Whereas, you know, often people don't let me within 10 foot of a comedy.
01:51I remember what my mind was before the thing happened that ruined my mind.
01:57I have so much respect for her and admiration, but I know enough.
02:02I know myself well enough to know I can never work like she does.
02:05Likewise, sometimes she sees me work intensely and blah, blah, blah, blah.
02:10And she's like, what are you doing? What are you doing?
02:12You know, so in a fun way, in a fun way, we both do the same thing,
02:16but we constantly, you know, reflect on that.
02:19It feels like we have different jobs.
02:22And so it allows for us to discuss work in a way that we both know what we're talking about
02:27and we can be helpful to each other.
02:28The approach is so different.
02:29It feels like we're talking about two different things,
02:31figuring out how those different things can come together
02:35and what the right vehicle for that would be.
02:37We're definitely interested in doing it,
02:39but so far we haven't found what we felt like was the right thing.
02:43Is your family still in the Northeast?
02:45Did you get to bring your mom around set or show your daughter Matilda around?
02:49Yes. This was one of the great things about the job is like where we were filming.
02:55I rented a house and Kaylee Matilda were with me.
03:00And but also my family is so close that they could come and visit.
03:04My mom came at least once a week.
03:06Grandma got to see Matilda.
03:08Matilda loves her grandma.
03:09My grandmother got to come.
03:11So Matilda got to spend time with her great grandma.
03:14My, some of my aunts came, my family, a bunch of my friends.
03:18I'm still very close with a lot of the guys I've known since I was three years old.
03:22They came to the house.
03:23Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:24So it was very, it was a very special job in that sense.
03:27Like I, I really felt a sense of home.
03:30Okay.
03:31We're going to put 10 seconds on the clock.
03:33Tell everyone why they should check out Task on HBO Max.
03:36Check out Task because it'll be the best show you see this year.
03:41Tom, thank you so much for stopping by today.
03:43Thank you very much.
03:44I appreciate it.
03:45This was fun.
