00:11According to the Federation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador, Conalle,
00:15and other activists, the law endangers human life and the country's environment and ecosystems.
00:21They also warned that the government's proposal prioritizes speeding up the investments
00:26on the extractive industry without establishing clear and enforceable guarantees
00:32for the prior and free consultation with the indigenous inhabitants of the territories.
00:38The controversial law is being debated Thursday at the Ecuadorian legislature,
00:42which, if approved, will be challenged by trade unions
00:46on the basis of substantive and procedural defects.
