00:54Hello, welcome to From the South. I am Lorena Fong from Telesurf Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:58We begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:13The Special Commission, the National Assembly of Venezuela, pointed, presented a report on compliance with the amnesty law and confirmed
01:22that it has reserved at least 6,487 applications to date.
01:28The report details that three strategic subcommittees were established to monitor the law, labor issues and special cases in order
01:36to expedite the process.
01:37Within the framework of the Programme for Peace and Democratic Coexistent, its coordinator Ernesto Villegas created a detailed database of
01:45cases reflecting an institutional effort to normalize the legal situation of various social and political sectors of the country.
01:53Authorities announced an immediate joint review to issue new recommendations that deepen the scope of this legislative measure.
02:15This is a clean, transparent process. I celebrate and thank the Deputy Jorge Ariza, who keeps us informed about the
02:26accepted requests for amnesty, how the cases are being attended to, and how the cases are being attended to.
02:32And the progress being made. This is not an easy process. There are always setbacks in this type of thing,
02:40it's logical and understandable.
02:43Institutions don't expect simultaneous requests for the same issue.
02:49Every day.
02:50Every day, and I understand from what the Deputy Ariza has told us that the President of the Supreme Court
02:56of Justice.
02:57Has been personally involved in resolving any confusion or issues that have arisen.
03:03And that the application of this law is becoming much more fluid, every day.
03:09I celebrate this.
03:11And I believe I speak for all members of the Peace and Democratic Coexistence Commission.
03:19When I say that we are happy that this is functioning as it should, and that the institutionality is working
03:25to achieve these goals.
03:32Venezuela's acting president, Elsie RodrĂguez, announced a special vaccination campaign against yellow fever in four states.
03:39The national government activated a vaccination plan for 22 prioritized parishes in the states of Aragua, Lara, Varinas and Portuguesa.
03:48The call is specifically aimed at people who have never been vaccinated against this disease.
03:53The acting president highlighted the strengthening of the public health system as a guarantee of a fundamental human right.
04:00And mentioned the cooperation with the Pan American Health Organization for the arrival of necessary supplies and vaccines.
04:14Moreover, acting president, Elsie RodrĂguez, announced a plan to unify the country's free public health care system.
04:25We have addressed the healthcare system in Venezuela as a way to guarantee a process that allows for the unification
04:32of the free public system to guarantee a fundamental human right for Venezuelans.
04:37We have also reviewed a complex set of diseases.
04:42We have also seen the support and cooperation throughout the Pan American Health Organization in vaccination processes in Venezuela.
04:50Different diseases, how we can get the vaccine supplies that are needed for the health system in Venezuela to work
04:57to our country.
05:00And in Cuba, authorities foiled and attempted terrorist incursion after seizing a boat with the United States registration plates of
05:08the coast of the country.
05:09According to the statement issued by the Ministry of the Interior, the operation resulted in the arrest of 10 armed
05:16individuals and the neutralization of a speedboat.
05:19The action took place in the Cayo Falcones area, when a unit of border guard troops intercepted the boat after
05:26coming under enemy fire.
05:28Four deaths were reported in the operation and the government is continuing its investigation to fully clarify the facts.
05:36Preliminary investigations indicate that all those involved are Cuban citizens residing in the United States who are linked to the
05:44promotion of terrorist acts against Cuba.
05:52In this context, these actions to attempt to destabilize the Caribbean country have been met with a firm rejection.
06:00Cuban President Miguel DĂaz-Canel took his social media to stress that Cuba does not attack or threaten.
06:07We have stated this repeatedly and reiterated today. Cuba will defend itself with determination and firmness against any terrorist or
06:17mercenary aggression that seeks to undermine its sovereignty and national stability.
06:29In this context, also, Foreign Minister Bruno RodrĂguez wrote on his social media accounts, Cuba has had to face numerous
06:37terrorist and aggressive filtrations from the USA since 1969 with the high cost in lives, injuries and material damage.
06:46A rigorous investigation is underway to clarify the facts. The defense of the Cuban coastline's national territory and national security
06:55is an avoidable duty.
06:57The Communist Party of Cuba also published acts of terrorism and the promotion thereof are contrary to international law and
07:06are severely punished under Cuban law.
07:08The sovereignty of Cuba is sacred and its defense is the greatest honor.

07:47Welcome back to From the South. We continue the information. In the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, torrential rains have
07:54left at least 53 deaths at rescues teams and presidents continue searching through all the
08:00of the rubble for 15 people still missing. The affected localities are Juiz de Fora and Ua, where the storm
08:07triggered flooding and landslides that buried entire neighborhoods.
08:11Despite the hostile weather and threat of further landslides, residents have taken to the streets to work side by side
08:18with emergency services.
08:20Precisely in Juiz de Fora, rescue operations were suspended early this morning due to weather accumulation and the risk of
08:29further landslides and some streets have to be evacuated.
08:33On Thursday, the fire department entered the third date of searching for missing persons in the rubble after the storm,
08:40which has also left more than 3,500 people homeless.
08:52Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno RodrĂguez expressed his condolences to the government and people of Brazil following the storm that left
09:01at least 30,000 people dead in the state of Minas Gerais.
09:05Through a message published on these digital platforms, the Cuban Minister extended his solidarity to the families of the victims
09:12and the thousands of displaced people in MesoreguĂłn of the La Mata area.
09:18This gesture from Havana threatens the regional bonds of fraternity in times of humanitarian crisis and natural disasters.
09:25The storm hit hard the municipalities of Juiz de Fora and Uba where the rainfall doubled the historical February average
09:33reaching 584 millimeters.
09:43Authorities in Colombia responded to an emergency in the municipality of San Juan de Urabá in the department of Antioquia
09:51where a volcanic eruption forced the evacuation of several homes.
09:55Videos showed a huge column of fire lighting up the sky visible from nearby towns which increased concern among the
10:03community.
10:04The Antioquia Risk Management Administrative Department reported that there were no injuries or fatalities.
10:11However, the death of several animals was confirmed and damage to the roads was reported.
10:16At least four homes were evacuated, five fighters controlled the flames to prevent a forest fire and traffic was restricted
10:24due to the cracks in the road.
10:33In Peru, the government officially declared a state of emergency in 14 of the country's 24 departments due to the
10:40rain that have hit several regions.
10:42The measure will be effects for 60 days, prioritizing the protection of life and restoration of basic services after several
10:52weeks of disruption.
10:53According to the latest report from the Civil Defense Institute, the climate event has caused more than 46 deaths in
11:00floods nationwide and mud and rock slides that have devastated the banks of the river.
11:06This exceptional measure responded to the growing aggressiveness of phenomena such as El Niño and La Niña which reached extreme
11:14levels on the coast and in the Andes region of the country.
11:25The local authorities and emergency services on the island of Lanzarote in Spain confirmed the arrival of a swarm of
11:33locusts from the Sahara desert on the African continent.
11:37The arrival of this plague driven by air currents and dust suspended suspended in the Saharan dust storm set off
11:46alarms in the agricultural sector.
11:48According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the desert locust is the most destructive migratory insect in the
11:57world.
11:57A threat exacerbated by recent rains, the abundant vegetation provided the food necessary for the swarm to settle, increasing the
12:06risk to local crops.
12:08The FAO anticipated the situation and issued warnings about massive regulatory movements between Mauritania and Morocco.
12:21In other topics, in Chile, the death toll from the explosion of a gas-loaded truck in the municipality of
12:28Renca, northwest of Santiago, rose to 12 after a patient who remained in critical condition died.
12:35The Undersecretary of Healthcare Networks reported that nine people remained hospitalized, five of whom are in critical condition due to
12:45the severity of their burns.
12:46The Ministry of Health authorities indicated that the patients are being treated in a combined network of public and private
12:54centers under preserved prognosis.
12:57The accident, which occurred on February 19, in the middle of the highway, was allegedly caused by a leak in
13:04the fuel system generating a column of fire and smoke visible throughout the metropolitan region.

13:49Welcome back to From the South.
13:51President Trump's State of the Union address was full of controversies, self-praise and, above all, division.
13:57Our correspondent in the United States, Henry Camel, tells us more details.
14:03Before Democratic and Republican members of Congress, President Donald Trump delivered his first State of the Union address of his
14:12second term.
14:14A speech that, in addition to addressing economy, immigration and foreign policy issues, was remarked by racism and divisive insults,
14:24which, according to analysts, made it clear that President Trump cares least about unity for his country.
14:32Trump did exactly what we knew that he would do.
14:35He lied, as he always does.
14:37We live in an epic of post-truth and post-reality, and that's the ruling class that he represents and
14:45that he spoke for last night.
14:47No surprises whatsoever.
14:48On economy matters, President Trump assured that the United States is on the right track.
14:55But in 12 months, my administration has driven core inflation down to the lowest level in more than five years.
15:02And in the last three months of 2025, it was down to 1.7%.
15:13However, data from Federal Reserve shows that currently, inflation stands at 2.7%, something that is hardly cost for celebration
15:24among Americans.
15:26Do you think, from your own experience going to the supermarket or shopping, that prices are going down?
15:33I think anybody who's buying anything right now knows that prices aren't going down.
15:37No matter how many times Trump says that they are, it doesn't make it real.
15:41Nobody's feeling like things are doing better right now.
15:43And the immigration issue heated up the atmosphere in Congress.
15:47You should be ashamed of yourself.
15:50That is why I'm also asking you to end deadly sanctuary cities that protect the criminals
15:57and enact serious penalties for public officials who block the removal of criminal aliens.
16:04In many cases, drug lords, murderers all over our country.
16:08They're blocking the removal of these people out of our country.
16:13And you should be ashamed of yourself.
16:19I think that he's putting all immigrants in one box.
16:24And all immigrants are not the same person, just like everybody that lives and comes from here isn't the same
16:30person.
16:30I think that he is not treating immigrants well.
16:36And he threatened it to attack Iran if it didn't abandon its nuclear program.
16:43My preference is to solve this problem through diplomacy.
16:47But one thing is certain.
16:49I will never allow the world's number one sponsor of terror, which they are by far, to have a nuclear
16:55weapon.
16:55Can't let that happen.
16:59For analyst Danny Shaw, Trump's speech was more of the same.
17:04We heard the arrogance and we heard the lies of another wannabe world's emperor.
17:12And, you know, who would have thought?
17:15Who would have thought in the form of this arrogant billionaire whose wealth continues to rise?
17:21He talked about his own economic interests in hotels and websites.
17:26It was beyond nauseating to see all of these Republicans enabling him.
17:30Because we live in a society where it's save yourself.
17:34A crude reality for the most vulnerable ones, the immigrants.
17:49The third round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States currently taking place in Geneva has been
17:56temporarily paused and is set to resume after this afternoon.
18:00Oman's Foreign Minister, Badr al-Busaidi, stated that the United States and Iran negotiations agreed to temporarily postpone the session
18:08for a recess.
18:09After an exchange of innovation and positive ideas, the third day began with a meeting between the Foreign Ministers of
18:17Iran and Oman,
18:18where a man's role as a strategic mediator to facilitate understanding between Tehran and Washington was reaffirmed.
18:26During the session, the Iranian delegation reaffirmed its official stance, which focuses on two side issues.
18:34The development of its nuclear pulp program and the demand for the total lifting of unilateral economic sanctions.
19:04We go now to the Middle East where violence by Israeli settlers increases in the Occupy West Bank.
19:10Palestinian families lost their homes and vehicles in a new arson attack south of Hebron.
19:16Israeli settlers set fire to five houses and several vehicles in the Palestinian village of Susia in the occupied West
19:23Bank.
19:24The attackers threw tear gas into the houses, causing at least four residents to suffer from suffocation.
19:30The incident is the latest in an escalation of violence that in January alone saw more than 450 attacks by
19:39settlers in different areas of Palestinian territory.
19:42Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert admitted that Benjamin Netanyahu's Zionist regime is carrying out ethnic lynching to forcibly displace
19:52the Palestinian population.
19:59In this context, in Palestine, a European mission visited the village of Susia in the occupied West Bank to evaluate
20:06the damage caused by a new attack by the Israeli regime.
20:09The diplomatic delegation examined the effects of vandalism and expressed its alarm at the escalation of violence in the occupied
20:17territories.
20:18After visiting destroyed homes and businesses, the diplomats collected testimonies denouncing a coordinated attack with the ultimate goal of forcing
20:27the displacement of the Palestinian community.
20:29In this sense, the incursion of settlers into the West Bank is part of a rise in hostilities that undermine
20:37any possibility of peace in the region.
20:49In other information, in Zimbabwe, the Chinese medical mission has established a pulmonary system and intensive care system that has
20:57already benefited more than 2,000 patients at the Parinretin Yatawa group of hospitals.
21:03Since the beginning of this project in 2022, the collaboration with the Human Province Hospital has allowed to establish the
21:11most modern respiratory department in the country and a first aid training center.
21:16The assistance also includes promoting traditional Chinese medicine and exercises such as Baduan Yin to improve the overall well-being
21:25of residents.
21:26This model of sustained support, which began in 1985, refers to Beijing's commitment to developing the healthcare sector in Southern
21:35Africa.
