Sen. Markwayne Mullin erupted at Sen. Bernie Sanders during a tense Senate confirmation hearing for President Trump’s surgeon general nominee, Casey Means, blasting Sanders and the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) as part of the reason U.S. healthcare is unaffordable. Sanders fired back, defending his support for a national healthcare program. The heated exchange highlighted deep partisan divides over healthcare policy and the future of ACA reform.

00:00President Trump and Secretary Kennedy, because how dare they look at a healthcare system that
00:05is broken and unaffordable and try to make changes, doing the same thing, expecting different
00:09results, so we should just sit here and accept it? And how dare we look into vaccines to just
00:15simply look to see if maybe vaccines? How dare us look at science? As a father of six kids,
00:22yeah, I want to look into it. I'm not a doctor. I'm not sitting here trying to say we shouldn't
00:28do something. I'm saying, let's go after it. Let's look at it. Let's question what we're
00:32doing. Let's look at the healthcare system. I'm sorry, I didn't ask your opinion on that,
00:36and if I cared about your opinion, I would ask you, but I don't care about your opinion. You're
00:39part of the system. You're part of the problem. You've been sitting here longer than I've even
00:43been alive. I decided not to run for Surgeon General. You're the nominee. I decided not to
00:49accept that nominee. That is definitely something we would never accept. The ranking member wants
00:53to talk about all the deaths that is supposedly going to be happening because of President Trump
00:59and Secretary Kennedy, because how dare they look at a healthcare system that is broken and
01:05unaffordable and try to make changes, but yet the definition of insanity is what? Doing the same
01:11thing, expecting different results, so we should just sit here and accept it? And how dare we look
01:15into vaccines to just simply look to see if maybe vaccines may be a partial cause to autism
01:26when it's rising at a rate faster than any country in the nation? How dare us look at science? Oh
01:32my
01:33goodness. Science is supposed to be perfect. I thought science was always supposed to be studied.
01:38I'm for looking into it. As a father of six kids, yeah, I want to look into it. I want
01:44to know what's
01:44causing it, and I will turn over every stone, and so Dr. Means, thank you for saying I want to
01:48turn
01:48over every stone. Good on you. I'm not a doctor. I'm not sitting here trying to say we shouldn't do
01:55something. I'm saying let's go after it. Let's look at it. Let's question what we're doing. Let's look
02:00at the healthcare system. We can agree on that one. I just don't want to socialize it, but we can
02:04agree
02:05that it is absolutely not affordable, 100% not affordable, yet it was supposed to be affordable.
02:10That's what we sold by Obamacare. So how about we work together and say, hey, scrap ACA, admit it
02:16doesn't work, admit you guys made a mistake, and let's work at something with President Trump to
02:20make affordable healthcare healthy and affordable for everybody, but there's zero chance you guys
02:25could do that. Zero chance. Yet everybody we bring up here, you guys chastise for trying to make
02:29changes. God forbid we change and go after us and try to fix our broken system. Anyways, I ranted too
02:37long.
02:37Let's talk about some. Yes, you did. I'm sorry, I didn't ask your opinion on that. And if I cared
02:42about your opinion, I would ask you, but I don't care about your opinion. You're part of the system.
02:46You're part of the problem. You've been sitting here longer than I've even been alive. This is
02:50your problem. You should have fixed this a long time ago. You've been rell on it so long. What
02:54have you decided not to run for surgeon general? You're the nominee. I've decided to accept that
03:00nominee. That is definitely something we would never accept.
