My favorite trade of the NBA trade deadline was the New York Knicks acquiring Jose Alvarado from the New Orleans Pelicans. It wasn’t flashy. It wasn’t headline-grabbing. But it was smart.
The Knicks needed guard depth, defensive energy, and a player who can change momentum without demanding high usage. Jose Alvarado fits perfectly. His ability to pressure the ball, create surprise steals, and ignite Madison Square Garden makes him an ideal rotational piece for a playoff team.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans continue to feel caught between directions. While they recouped assets, the Knicks clearly strengthened their rotation for the present.
Sometimes the best trades aren’t the biggest ones — they’re the ones that solve real problems.
Did the Knicks quietly make the smartest move of the deadline?
