00:00These claims that Donald Trump made in his State of the Union address aren't new.
00:04Cheating is rampant in our elections. It's rampant.
00:08They're now a six-year-old conspiracy theory.
00:11No more crooked mail-in ballots except for illness, disability, military or travel.
00:18The only way they can get elected is to cheat and we're going to stop it. We have to stop
00:23it, Josh.
00:24And now he's backing federal legislation in response to these already debunked claims.
00:30And perhaps most importantly, I'm asking you to approve the Save America Act.
00:36Audits, court rulings and investigations found that there was no evidence that mail-in ballots stole the election in 2020.
00:45But that obviously hasn't stopped Donald Trump making these claims.
00:49In 2024, Trump then went on to claim that the Biden administration had allowed undocumented migrants in to try and
00:57sway the vote in the Democrats' favor.
01:00To stop illegal aliens and others who are unpermitted persons from voting in our sacred American elections.
01:09Now, a federal review found absolutely no evidence for widespread voter fraud from non-U.S. citizens.
01:17Regardless of that, though, he's now pushing the Save America Act onto Congress, urging them to vote in favor.
01:23Now, here's what this act would mean.
01:26It would mean people coming to vote would require proof of citizenship to register.
01:31It would mandate photo ID when casting their ballot.
01:34And it would remove the option to mail in your ballot for many, many people.
01:39But here's the twist.
01:40It wouldn't fully remove mail-in ballots.
01:42People who are sick, are traveling, have a disability or work in the army still have the right to cast
01:49a mail-in ballot.
01:50Leaving Trump's claims about mail-in fraud still in play.
01:54This bill has passed the House, but not the Senate yet.
01:57Now, existing systems already require voters to verify their eligibility when registering.
02:04Which is why critics have argued that the changes could make voting harder for millions of eligible Americans.
02:11Creating what they describe as an undue burden.
02:15So, the debate isn't really about ballot security.
02:18Many federal investigations have found there not to be any evidence for widespread voter fraud.
02:24It's about whether new federal restrictions are a necessary safeguard.
