25:54horror movies that um seem to uh have these keys that could as i say unlock any door particularly

26:05skeleton keys used to have very wide spaces and very narrow bits on them um so a little wiggling

26:11basically a lot could be undone using one of these it's as simple as that um but i'm going to

26:15to the expression the skeleton in the cupboard so something some secret that you don't ever want to

26:21get out usually some discreditable uh secret that may go back to a french folk tale which is also

26:27very grisly it's the fable of bluebeard now bluebeard was um a wealthy quite frightening uh

26:34nobleman described as being very sort of ugly ugly in character ugly in um looks and he married

26:40one gorgeous woman after another um beautiful inside and out but they all mysteriously vanished

26:48everyone was really curious as to how he sort of married these women anyway but he was very powerful

26:53apparently very charismatic one day according to the fable he announced that he had to leave the

26:58country so he gave the keys to his sumptuous chateau to his present wife to his current wife

27:03but told her that she could open any door apart from the door to the basement she wasn't allowed to

27:09go

27:09there under any circumstances so she went into sort of all the doors that she was allowed to open full

27:15of

27:15riches and luxury but she was really seduced by the thought of going into this underground chamber until

27:20she could resist it no more and with the help of her sister forced the door open only to be

27:27sort of completely confronted by the corpses of all the women all the wives that he had murdered before

27:33her a very grisly detail which i won't go into given the time of day but it's a fairly nasty

27:39eventually he gets his comeuppance because he's killed by the wife's brother so i've completely

27:44spoiled the ending but the idea of these corpses these skeletons hanging in the closet in a secret

27:50place may have propelled the expression into english as we know today oh very interesting
