00:00It's for anyone who does not agree with these things or does not think that they should be the law.
00:04I'm going to correct it again.
00:24Like in the case of Michael Cox Jr.,
00:27who was found guilty of inappropriately f***ing a five-year-old girl.
00:31Shortly after the verdict, Judge Jerry Ritter called a bench conference with lawyers from both sides.
00:44One of those lawyers was Deputy District Attorney Scott Key, who got Cox convicted.
00:50And Cox took that personally and decided to get his revenge right there in the courtroom.
01:01Just as the prosecutor was returning to his chair, Cox leaped out of his and attacked him.
01:07With Key on the floor, Cox continued the attack, but the prosecutor managed to get up.
01:13Now on his feet, the prosecutor decided to return Cox the favor.
01:16In the meantime, Judge Ritter got up from his bench and ran to the center of the action.
01:21At the same time, a person from the gallery ran to stop the brawl.
01:25Judge Ritter asked him to leave, letting the professionals handle the situation.
01:30Backup arrived and Cox was cuffed, while Judge Ritter cleared the courtroom.
01:47Cox was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the original child m****** conviction and an additional six and a
01:53half years for the courtroom attack.
01:55Michael Cox Jr. attacked the prosecutor after being found guilty, but how does that compare to a defendant knocking out
02:03his lawyer with one punch?
02:05Like in the case of Peter Hafer, who was charged with burglarizing a Kmart store.
02:10Hafer could not hire his own attorney and was assigned a public defender.
02:14That's when attorney Doug Krikmer came into the picture.
02:17Krikmer and Hafer had their initial meeting off camera, during which the defendant was convinced that the lawyer wasn't the
02:24right fit.
02:24So he requested a different lawyer.
02:26But the judge didn't take his request seriously.
02:39After the judge denied his request for a new public defender, Hafer took matters into his own hands.
02:45Or more specifically, his right hand.
02:48He ain't doing nothing.
02:49I'm telling you, this ain't working.
02:52I can find, I can have, I'd rather have the prosecutor be my attorney than him.
02:57He'd probably give me a better trial.
03:02His fist connected with the lawyer's chin and knocked him out.
03:06He followed that up with a few more hits to the lawyer's face and stomach.
03:10Attorney Doug Krikmer appeared on TV shortly after the attack.
03:13Good morning, Meredith.
03:14How are you?
03:15I'm, I'm probably better than you.
03:17I'm glad you're back at work.
03:18But boy, it's apparent you took a pounding there.
03:21He forgave Hafer and didn't press charges.
03:24Mr. Hafer's case.
03:26I certainly don't fault him or blame him.
03:29But the judge wasn't as forgiving.
03:32He sentenced the attacker to six months in prison for the attack.
03:36Peter Hafer attacked his lawyer in court to get a different lawyer.
03:39But what happens when a random inmate sucker punches an attorney who isn't even representing him?
03:48Like in the case of William Green, who blindsided assistant public defender Julie Chase in a Fort Lauderdale courtroom.
03:56Green was in court on battery charges for attacking an employee at a mental hospital.
04:01But it wasn't his turn to appear before the judge, so he was seated with the other defendants.
04:06Public defender Julie Chase was at the podium representing another inmate when Green got up and started walking towards her.
04:14Then he blindsided her with a single punch that knocked her out.
04:22The sheriff's deputies arrived to take control of the situation.
04:34Chase was rushed to the hospital where she made a full recovery before appearing on TV to describe the attack.
04:40It was just a bit of a shock. I didn't expect it, but I'm doing okay.
04:44Her mother recalled the moment she was informed of the attack.
04:46It didn't feel very well to get a phone call at work hearing that your daughter's been smashed in the
04:52face by, well, somebody in court.
04:56But despite the shock and pain, Chase took the moment to advocate for better treatment of the mentally ill in
05:02jail.
05:02William Green received additional battery charges for the courtroom assault.
05:06But what happens when a defendant attacks not just his lawyer, but also his mother?
05:11Like in the case of Christopher Jackson, who was charged with trespassing, resisting arrest, and unlawful weapon use.
05:18His mother accompanied him to the courtroom and tried to keep him in line when he started being disrespectful.
05:32But Jackson shoved his mother and continued to be disrespectful in the courtroom.
05:41When his lawyer tried to reason with him, Jackson got even more agitated, slamming his feet on the floor.
05:48Then he got violent.
05:50First, he tried to throw a chair at his attorney.
05:53After being stopped by his mother, Jackson went for another chair, which he threw at a courtroom employee off-camera.
06:08Jackson's mother and attorney rushed to stop him.
06:11The employee he had attacked managed to get away while a deputy arrived to cuff the attacker.
06:27Another deputy entered the courtroom and asked Jackson's mother to step away from the bench.
06:38Then they turned their attention towards Jackson, who was pinned by his own attorney.
06:56One of the deputies tried to cuff the defendant, but the lawyer was in the way.
07:09The other deputy asked the lawyer to move while getting his taser.
07:17He aimed his taser at the defendant and ordered him to stay put.
07:21But, Jackson started cooperating, and the taser went back in its holster.
07:40Then, Jackson started being difficult once again.
07:43First, hiding his hands under his chest to avoid the cuffs, and then going limp to make the deputy's job
07:49more difficult.
08:05He was found guilty of second-degree assault, attempted second-degree assault, and two counts of assaulting a public safety
08:11officer, and was sentenced to almost six years in prison.
08:15Christopher Jackson extended his prison time by attacking three people, including his own mother and lawyer.
08:21But what happens when a defendant decides to attack the lawyer prosecuting him?
08:25This is Taylor Shibisnes, who was charged with murdering and decapitating her boyfriend, Shad Therion.
08:33So I went into the basement, and he went and pulled out two chains.
08:37I asked him, where my money at, fool?
08:39And he said, I ain't got it.
08:40So I took a chain, I put it around his neck, and I asked him again, where my sh** at?
08:45He didn't respond.
08:46His face turned purple.
08:47There was blood coming out of his mouth.
08:50So I laid his sh** down on the bed to grab a kitchen knife.
08:54I went back downstairs, took off his pants, I sucked his sh**, cut his head off at the same time.
08:59She left his head in a bucket in his mom's basement.
09:02Therion's mother found the head and woke up her boyfriend.
09:05He called 911.
09:19Then, Therion's mother got on the line.
09:34The 911 operator couldn't believe what he was hearing, and even wondered if the head was fake.
09:40And, I mean, you're sure it could be like a fake head or something?
09:45The cops who saw the bucket couldn't believe what they were seeing.
09:49They kept flashing their flashlights into the bucket to double check what was in it.
09:53And, upon closer inspection, they found that it contained something other than Shad's decapitated head.
10:00Hold on.
10:01Hold on.
10:08Hold on.
10:13You looked in the bucket obviously.
10:15I did.
10:16What other items were in the bucket?
10:17There was remains.
10:19Two different specific types of remains that I observed.
10:24What kind?
10:25There was a human head.
10:26There was genitalia in the bucket.
10:33Who could have done this?
10:36Shad's mom had her suspicions.
10:38She told the cops exactly what she had told Dispatch.
10:41That her son was last seen alive with his girlfriend, Taylor Shibisnes.
10:46That's what I'm about.
10:48How are you?
10:50Police went to an apartment complex where Shibisnes' Minnie was spotted.
10:54They found her covered in blood.
10:57Um, is this blood?
11:00Does this impact blood to you?
11:03How am I just tripping?
11:05A bloody footprint?
11:07You see this right here?
11:09Taylor, you have a warfare.
11:10You have a warfare.
11:11Put your hands behind me, backward.
11:13Is there anything else in your apartment?
11:16You got it?
11:17Come on, your ass here.
11:18Come on, your ass.
11:21Okay, yeah, we're gonna have to.
11:22A quick search of her van led to additional body parts that were in a crock-pot box.
11:27Shibisnes was arrested and charged with murder, mutilation of a corpse, and third degree sexual assault.
11:34On the way to the police station, Shibisnes admitted to taking out Shad Therion.
11:40It took him out.
11:42It took him out.
11:43It took him out.
11:43It took him out.
11:44Woo!
11:47Nice up.
11:50When she arrived at the police station, she continued to act strangely.
11:58Get a good one of my time.
12:00Alright.
12:03Then she was taken to the interrogation room, where she divulged gruesome details of her crimes.
12:09You said that she played with his p**** after he was dead.
12:13Oh yeah.
12:14Was it a wreck?
12:15At one point, she described choking Shad during s**** and realizing that she had gone too far.
12:22The chain goes around his neck and he started choking on me.
12:26And he just realized that he was gonna die or what?
12:30I'm just like, s***.
12:32I think I went a little too far.
12:34Cause like, I was blacking out while I was doing it, right?
12:37And I'm like, f***.
12:38And then like, I look at him and I'm like, s***, he's already crippled.
12:41I'm like, f***.
12:41I'm like, I don't know if he's f***ing.
12:44Is he good?
12:45Is he good?
12:45But then when I had a blow drop, like, no.
12:48During the black, I'm like, s***.
12:50Like, he was coughing up blood.
12:52I'm like...
12:54I don't know.
12:54I just kept going.
12:55I just kept going.
12:57Did you want Shad to be dead?
13:00No.
13:01No.
13:02It was out of random.
13:04Like, I wasn't expecting that.
13:06And it kind of threw me off guard.
13:07And it was just an open place.
13:09Despite confessing to the murder and the dismemberment of Shad's corpse, Shabizness pleaded not guilty
13:14by reason of insanity.
13:16Throughout her trial, she showed a lack of remorse and was caught smirking and chuckling
13:21at different points.
13:22She even appeared to make a finger gun gesture towards the judge.
13:26But what got her in the news was something else.
13:30At an earlier stage, Shabizness was represented by attorney Quinn Jolly, but not for long.
13:36During a pre-trial hearing, Shabizness appeared to be lost in deep thought.
13:40But when her lawyer requested the trial date to be pushed back to determine her competency
13:45to stand trial, Shabizness sprang into action.
13:55Another camera in the courtroom caught the judge's reaction.
14:05But soon backup arrived and overpowered her for good.
14:26Shabizness calmed down, but seemed to have no memory of the attack.
14:31You went off on your attorney, Taylor.
14:33You went crazy on your attorney.
14:35You can't do that, dear.
14:36You okay?
14:39Yeah, yeah.
14:42You're going to stay here for a minute, all right?
14:44Are you able to sit up, Taylor?
14:46She can, Mom.
14:47She's going to stay right where she's at it.
14:48All right.
14:51I did not.
14:53You went off on your attorney, Taylor.
14:55You went crazy on your attorney.
14:57Yeah, you can't do that, dear.
14:59Ultimately, Shabizness was taken out of the courtroom.
15:02Whether the attack was a delaying tactic or an attempt at selling her insanity, it did
15:07not work.
15:08Shabizness was declared competent to stand trial and got the expected verdict.
15:14The verdict seems to be in order, and I will read it as follows.
15:17Question one.
15:18At the time the crimes were committed, did the defendant have a mental disease or mental
15:23defect?
15:24Answer, no.
15:24After dismissing her insanity defense, the jury found her guilty on all counts.
15:30In her sentencing, she was brought to court in a spit hood designed to prevent her from
15:34biting or spitting on anyone in the courtroom.
15:37State versus galleon, so I have to consider the gravity of the offense, the character of
15:41the defendant, the need to protect the public, as well as other aggravating and mitigating
15:46circumstances.
15:47But throughout the proceedings, Shabizness remained surprisingly calm, even when the victim's
15:52uncle gave her a new surname.
15:54So that name, Taylor, Shabizness fits you well.
15:59Then, the judge announced her sentence.
16:02And once again, she did not act out.
16:04It's the decision of this court, and the judgment of the law, that Ms. Shabizness be count one,
16:11that's the first degree intentional homicide as a repeater, it's a class A felony, going
16:15to impose life imprisonment without the possibility of extended supervision.
16:19I believe that's appropriate in light of the findings that I've already made.
16:23She sat silently while the judge announced the rest of her sentence.
16:26As far as count two, mutilation of a corpse as a repeater, a class F felony, 7.5 years of
16:34initial
16:34confinement, followed by four years of extended supervision, that'll be consecutive to count
16:38one.
16:39Count three, third degree sexual assault as a repeater, class G felony.
16:45I'm going to impose three years of initial confinement, followed by four years of extended supervision,
16:50that will be consecutive to count two and count one.
16:54And her calm demeanor might make you think that Taylor was done attacking people at random.
16:58But Shabizness would do the same thing in prison.
17:02According to a criminal complaint, Shabizness had fallen on a staple and needed medical care.
17:07A prison sergeant escorted her to the medical room, where Shabizness lunged at the nurse.
17:13The sergeant held Shabizness down, allowing the nurse to leave.
17:17Shabizness then turned on the sergeant, who ended up with bruised ribs and an aching arm.
17:22The sergeant's head was also hit during the struggle, which ended with pepper spray.
17:26Shabizness was charged with one count of battery by a prisoner, and brought to court, where
17:31she attacked yet another lawyer.
17:33She was smiling and nodding to her attorney, but when he looked away, she suddenly attacked
17:38him.
17:45The deputies were much quicker this time around, and managed to pull her back before she could
17:50do any real damage.
17:55Her attorney simply turned towards the prosecution and shrugged.
18:02We're off the record.
18:04Shabizness has attacked two lawyers and a prison sergeant.
18:07But how does that compare to a defendant headbutting his own lawyer in court?
18:12Like in the case of Cody Jones, who was charged with attempted murder for trying to stab a guest
18:17to death?
18:18Scotty Bruce was asleep on the couch when Jones woke him up and accused him of taking his
18:23blanket.
18:24Before Bruce could say anything in his defense, Jones started stabbing him with a kitchen knife.
18:29He stated he was asleep on the couch.
18:31The suspect awoke him, saying that he had his blanket, produced a knife and attempted to stab him.
18:39The victim got up, ran to the front door.
18:43The front door was locked.
18:44And the suspect proceeded to stab him multiple times while he said he was going to kill him.
18:50Police arrived on the scene to find Jones barricaded in his bedroom.
18:55After a while, the cops managed to talk Jones into surrendering.
18:58He was charged with one count of attempted murder and appeared in front of Judge William Ryan.
19:04Prosecutor Becky Shoring called Officer Adam Metzler to the stand.
19:09She calls Officer Adam Metzler to the stand.
19:12Did the victim make any statements as to the attempt to kill?
19:16Metzler then stated that he had heard from the victim.
19:19He stated he was asleep on the couch.
19:21The suspect awoke him, saying that he had his blanket, produced a knife and attempted to stab him.
19:29After that, it was time for Jones' attorney to cross-examine the witness.
19:34But the defendant did not seem happy with his lawyer's performance.
19:38And where was the room, so was this, did the incident allegedly happen in the living room?
19:44Were there any injuries on Mr. Jones that you saw?
19:49At one point, he started dictating questions.
19:52And when his lawyer rephrased the question for legal reasons, he didn't seem happy with the end result.
19:58Ask the f***ing question, I'm not f***ing normal.
20:01You gotta ask the question, I get to ask someone.
20:03What are you going to ask?
20:05He took evidence on white people with blood all over.
20:09What evidence did you collect from the scene?
20:12We collected in courts.
20:15We took photographs of the scene, we collected three knives, and we also collected his shirt that he was wearing.
20:20Jones' frustration with his attorney reached its boiling point when the lawyer requested the judge to lower the bond.
20:26Interestingly, Jones was against the idea, insisting that...
20:31Quarter-mil.
20:32Quarter-mil sign.
20:34Quarter-mil sign.
20:35I don't want to own you.
20:36I'm...
20:37Can I keep you?
20:38Let your attorney...
20:40I'm paying you.
20:41I'm paying you.
20:41I'm paying you.
20:42But his attorney kept trying to bring that quarter-mil bond to $100,000, which further upset Jones.
20:48No.
20:49I've never told him to you too many times.
20:52I'm f***ing fired.
20:53Give me my paperwork.
20:54I'm going to serve a court for you.
20:55What's your f***ing to you?
20:57I don't want my f***ing to post it at no $100,000.
20:59Keep it at a...
21:00When the lawyer tried to silence Jones, he got this final warning from his client.
21:06The judge had had enough and ordered the deputies to take him out.
21:09But before they could do that, Jones followed through on his promise.
21:15That's it.
21:15Give me my paperwork here.
21:17I'm going back.
21:20On your belly.
21:22On your belly.
21:28His lawyer did not sustain any injuries and informed the court that he was fine.
21:34I'm good.
21:37That was just a light track.
21:39Good job, sheriffs.
21:42Jones was charged with third-degree assault for the headbutt.
21:46Cody Jones attacked his lawyer for not listening to him.
21:49But why would a defendant flip a table in the courtroom?
21:57Like in the case of Felix Espinosa-Quiroz, who was charged with s***, sodomy and s*** test,
22:03alongside witness tampering.
22:06His accuser took the stand and began describing her experience, which angered Espinosa.
22:19As he continued yelling at his accuser, the judge asked the jury to leave the courtroom.
22:29Then, the prosecutor went over to the witness stand to take her away.
22:43That's when Espinosa got even more aggressive, banging his fists on the table and flipping it over with his head.
22:54A bailiff tried to restrain Espinosa, but he got up and shoved his own attorney.
23:00He tried to hit the bailiff and narrowly missed.
23:03The bailiff pulled out her taser, but before she could fire it, Espinosa took off.
23:12When the bailiff returned to the courtroom, her taser seemed to be missing.
23:16Still, she continued the chase, which ended when backup arrived.
23:27The witness, who had seen a good portion of the outburst, was escorted out of the courtroom, and Espinosa was
23:34brought back in handcuffs.
23:46He was later found guilty on two counts of sex abuse and one count of witness tampering.
23:53Felix Espinosa Quiroz flipped a table in the courtroom and shoved his lawyer.
23:57What happens when a defendant tries to grab an officer's gun?
24:01Like in the case of Scott Patrick Lemon, who was in a Newport courtroom for nine charges, including robbery, burglary,
24:09menacing, and coercion.
24:11He had been impulsive in custody, so the sheriff's office requested that electronic restraints be put on him.
24:17That way, if Lemon tried to attack anyone, the officers would be able to remotely shock him.
24:22But the judge denied this request, because seeing the defendant in a shock jacket could influence the jury.
24:29So Lemon was allowed to appear without electronic restraints, which led to this.
24:39Lemon first rocked his chair, eyeing the officer's gun.
24:44Then, he rushed towards the officer and reached for his gun.
24:50But the officer turned at the right time, preventing the situation from escalating further.
24:56A deputy managed to take Lemon to the ground and pin him.
25:03He tried to fight back, but was outnumbered.
25:18Eventually, the deputies managed to get his arms behind his back.
25:22allowing the officer to cuff him.
25:41Scott Patrick Lemon tried to grab an officer's gun and got an escape charge added to his rap sheet.
25:47But what happens when a defendant gets mad at his lawyer for ignoring him?
25:52Is there anyone who does not agree with these things, or does not think that they should be the law?
25:57With the record again, no one has raised their hands.
25:59Like in the case of Lamont Payne, who was on trial for attacking a corrections officer.
26:05After the jury regarding basics like presumption of innocence, the judge had a question.
26:11Ladies and gentlemen, is there anyone who does not understand the principles of law I just stated?
26:14The presumption of innocence.
26:16If you don't understand those, please raise your hand.
26:18Lamont Payne did not seem to understand the concept and tried to get his lawyer to ask for clarification.
26:25Is there anyone who does not agree with these things, or does not think that they should be the law?
26:28But the lawyer didn't even look in his direction.
26:31So Payne tapped on his desk once again, before leaning back.
26:35Is there anyone who does not think we should have the presumption of innocence?
26:40With the record again, no one has raised their hands.
26:42The judge continued explaining the presumption of innocence to the jury, while Payne's lawyer continued to ignore him.
26:49In fact, the presumption of innocence is so strong, that as you sit here today, if you had to vote
26:54right now whether the defendant was guilty or not guilty, you'd have to vote not guilty.
26:58Because the state has not presented any evidence, they have not sustained their burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.
27:03Then he asked once again if anyone had any questions or objections.
27:08Again, ladies and gentlemen, is there anyone on the panel who has a problem with this concept, or does not
27:11think that it should be the law?
27:13Presumption of innocence.
27:15Payne, still ignored by his lawyer, decided to speak up for himself.
27:20Also, some may think that just because-
27:22My lawyer ain't gonna speak up.
27:24It's plain and simple.
27:25Sir.
27:25You asked him a question just a minute ago about-
27:28Sir.
27:28Being biased.
27:29If I'm a convict, I want to testify by myself.
27:32He gonna speak up.
27:33When the judge told Payne to let his lawyer speak, he told the judge that his lawyer had been ignoring
27:39him.
27:39But the judge's questions had been for the jury, so there was no need for the lawyer to speak up.
27:45I've been giving him questions.
27:46He won't speak up.
27:47Sir.
27:47That's because it's not his turn to ask questions.
27:50Man.
27:50You're gonna sell me out.
27:51All right.
27:53The appropriate time will happen at the appropriate time.
27:56Then the judge told Payne that if he kept being disruptive, he would be taken out of the courtroom.
28:01If you continue to have helpers, I'm gonna have to remove you from the courtroom.
28:04Now is appropriate time.
28:06This-
28:06I keep telling you he's a problem.
28:08When Payne continued his back and forth with the judge, he ordered the deputies to take him out.
28:13Deputy, please move.
28:15That's .
28:17But before leaving, Payne got his lawyer's attention by doing this.
28:23That's .
28:24That's .
28:26Move.
28:26Move.
28:26Move.
28:27The deputies intervened and put the cuffs on Payne.
28:33Turn around.
28:35Get off.
28:35Come here, buddy.
28:36Come here, buddy.
28:36Come here, buddy.
28:37Come here, buddy.
28:39Come here, buddy.
28:39All right, ladies and gentlemen.
28:40I'm gonna need you.
28:41His lawyer walked away with a bloody nose.
28:44Turn around.
28:46Get off.
28:47Come here, buddy.
28:47Come here, buddy.
28:47Come here, buddy.
28:48Come here, buddy.
28:48Come here, buddy.
28:49He would later appear on TV to talk about the incident.
28:52He also described this moment.
28:55I remember checking my teeth.
28:56And then realizing they're all there.
28:58I will go for it.
29:00And I'm not here to impress when you charge him.
29:01The lawyer was later dropped by the public defender's office after other clients complained
29:06that he had been ignoring them as well.
29:08Payne was frustrated with his attorney and decided to punch him.
29:12But what happens when a defendant tries to stab the prosecutor in the courtroom?
29:16Like in the case of Joshua Harding, who was on trial for abuse.
29:20Throughout the trial, Assistant Prosecutor Jonathan Roth kept emphasizing the severity of Harding's
29:26crimes and the impact they had on the children he hurt.
29:30Harding did not like this, which is why he came to court with a plan to make Roth pay.
29:35Just as the jury was returning to the courtroom with its verdict, Harding made his move.
29:46He pulled a metal shank out of his sleeve before leaping towards the prosecution desk.
29:51He went past an assistant prosecutor and tried specifically to stab Roth, who moved away at the last second.
30:00A police detective tackled Harding before he could make another attempt at Roth's life.
30:08One of the deputies wrestled the shank out of Harding's hand.
30:16Roth appeared to be in shock, hovering over the melee, until the other prosecutor came around to pull him back.
30:26In the meantime, the deputies pinned Harding's arm against the floor to prevent him from attacking anyone else.
30:42Then, someone in the gallery pointed out that the shank was still within Harding's reach, so Roth went over to
30:48pick it up.
31:00Roth held the shank that Harding had tried to kill him with and placed it on his desk.
31:08Harding was charged with three felonies, including assault with intent to commit murder.
31:14He pleaded guilty.
31:15Roth spoke at Harding's sentencing, urging the judge to send him to prison for at least 25 years.
31:22A sentence at the very minimum of 25 years would be appropriate for somebody with this record and this offense.
31:28I think a sentence much, much higher than the top of the guidelines would be appropriate.
31:32Joshua was initially sentenced to 20 years for the attack, but an appeals court found that the sentence was too
31:38lenient, given Harding's criminal history.
31:40So, Judge Richard Garcia re-sentenced him to 30 years for the attack, in addition to the 19 years for
31:47the sex abuse conviction.
31:49Joshua Harding extended his time in prison to 49 years by attacking the prosecuting attorney.
31:55But what happens when a defendant punches his own lawyer?
31:59Like in the case of Lamarcus Williamson, who's charged with strong-arm robbery and first-degree assault for attacking a
32:06female university student.
32:08When the student cried out for help, Williamson f***ed her.
32:12Williamson was arrested and held at the Moss Justice Center with a $45,000 bond.
32:17His public defender convinced him to plead guilty and hope for a lighter sentence, so Williamson pleaded guilty and appeared
32:24in court to get sentenced.
32:26The lawyer who convinced him to plead guilty did not show up for his sentencing and instead sent his colleague
32:32Dan Hall to fill in for him.
32:34Hall agreed because he had more than 25 years of experience, and seeing a defendant through sentencing wouldn't be a
32:40big deal for him, or so he thought.
32:42Williamson appeared on edge even before the sentence was announced.
32:46His nervous glances and constant twitching alerted the deputies, who repositioned themselves, expecting an outburst.
33:01Finally, the judge announced Williamson's sentence.
33:05Fifteen years in prison.
33:06Williamson was visibly shocked by the decision, so Hall tried to comfort him.
33:11That's when the defendant snapped.
33:16While Williamson was still in shock, Hall tried to usher him out of the courtroom.
33:27Williamson turned around and hit the lawyer in the face before getting dragged down to the ground.
33:32The deputy sprang into action and restrained him.
33:35Hall got up just as the officers rushed Williamson out of the courtroom.
33:39He seemed to have blood on his face, which he wiped with a tissue paper offered by an administrative assistant.
33:46He later revealed to the media that it was his 58th birthday, and joked that getting punched was not the
33:51best birthday present.
33:53The defendant also got a present.
33:55An additional six months in prison for contempt of court.
33:58Lamarcus Williamson punched his lawyer after getting a 15-year sentence.
34:03But how does that compare to a killer spitting on his attorney?
34:06Like in the case of Keontae Hunter, who was charged with murder, attempted murder, and tampering with evidence.
34:13Cops in a Louisville neighborhood noticed a shirtless teenager jogging on the sidewalk.
34:17They noticed a heavy object in his pocket, which they believed to be a gun.
34:22So they asked him to stop.
34:24Hunter took off and tossed the gun over a fence before the cops could catch him.
34:28They eventually found the gun with the help of a canine unit.
34:32Hunter had a live 380 round that matched the gun.
34:35Around the same time, a shooting was reported at a nearby property.
34:3921-year-old Jesse Williams had been shot to death.
34:43His girlfriend was also shot and suffered injuries to her leg.
34:47Hunter knew the victims, so he was arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder.
34:52In court, Hunter was represented by attorney Josh Roberts, who tried to get a part of his earlier testimony suppressed,
34:59arguing that the defendant wasn't mature enough to understand his legal rights.
35:04Keontae, who was a juvenile at the time, the case law does support, and just our own common sense,
35:10knows that juveniles have a lowered understanding, a lower intelligence,
35:17when it comes to legal rights and things of that nature.
35:22Hunter took his attorney's remarks personally, especially when the lawyer said he had lowered understanding.
35:28Hunter let the lawyer finish.
35:30I would argue that given his situation as a juvenile, that the Commonwealth has not met their burden,
35:37showing that that was an intelligent and voluntary waiver.
35:39Then he raised his hand to object to his own lawyer's argument, but the judge asked him to wait.
35:46We'll get you a written order once I've reviewed the statement in its entirety.
35:50Go ahead.
35:51That's right.
35:52Mr. Hunter, hold on.
35:54Hunter waited, but not for long.
35:56I can't do this.
35:57Get due.
35:58You need to sit down.
35:59Sit down.
36:00Sit down.
36:01I'm...
36:02He went from complaining to swearing.
36:04Sit down.
36:06I'm...
36:06It's all that.
36:07It's conflict of interest between me and the conflict.
36:10Nah, man.
36:10I wanna...
36:10And from swearing to spitting on his attorney and swinging at him.
36:15I wanna file a verbal mode.
36:16Mr. Hunter.
36:18The officers tackled him to the ground, but that didn't stop the defendant from threatening
36:23his lawyer in front of the judge.
36:25You come to my next court, please, dog.
36:27I'm spitting in your face.
36:29I'm gonna break this .
36:31Hunter was removed from the courtroom and later found guilty on all charges.
36:38You okay, Mr. Roberts?
36:39I am good.
36:40He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
36:43Keontae Hunter attacked his attorney because the lawyer was portraying him as a naive teenager,
36:49which he did not like.
36:51But what happens when a defendant stalks a lawyer with a score to settle?
36:55Like in the case of Major Robinson, who had a grudge against County Prosecutor Tim Meals,
37:00who had prosecuted him earlier.
37:02Meals was headed home after a long day in court when a man approached him from behind.
37:08Robinson did not notice the man until he called him by name.
37:11The man, later identified as Major Robinson, closed in on the lawyer and punched him in the face.
37:25Another lawyer, Tyler Eason, intervened, pushing Robinson away.
37:30The second prosecutor also got punched in the face.
37:34Ultimately, officers arrived and arrested Robinson.
37:37He was charged with two counts of assault and two counts of willful injury.
37:45He was charged with two counts of gunstow, and he performed him as a comedian in the way.
37:45He looked a lot to say a guy.
37:46All came out of this, in the way.
37:47He then used to realize that he was charged with no gunstow.
37:48He was charged with no gunstow, but when he played, he did not want to get up with US.
37:48And he would all of his catches on without taking it.
37:48He was charged with no gunstow.
37:48You
