00:00On today's Media Miss Minute, Canada is warning some indigenous residents
00:04to carry a passport into the United States, even though it's not legally required.
00:10Plus, the Taliban has enacted a new law effectively allowing men to beat their wives
00:16under certain conditions.
00:21I'm Craig DeGrelli. This is Media Miss Minute, where we highlight stories being overlooked by
00:26partisan outlets. Let's start with what the right is missing. The Canadian government is advising
00:32First Nations people to bring a passport when traveling into the United States. Under long-standing
00:38agreements, indigenous people can cross the border using a secure certificate of Indian status.
00:43But Canada's website now cautions that acceptance of those cards is, quote,
00:48entirely at the discretion of U.S. officials. Now to what the left is missing. The Taliban has
00:55approved a new penal code that classifies spousal beatings as tazir, a discretionary punishment
01:02rather than a criminal offense. The law states that physical punishment is permitted so long as it
01:09does not result in broken bones or open wounds. Even when serious injury is proven, which rights groups
01:16say will be difficult under the new framework, the maximum sentence is only 15 days.
