00:01Strings of light glow between shattered buildings and piles of rubble in Gaza City.
00:06Small signs of celebration in a landscape still marked by war.
00:12It's the first Ramadan since the fragile October ceasefire.
00:16But for many here, little has changed since the past two holy months observed during the fighting.
00:23Just days after world leaders met for the inaugural meeting of Donald Trump's controversial Board of Peace
00:28and pledged billions for Gaza's reconstruction,
00:31residents of the devastated enclave say the atmosphere remains heavy with loss and intermittent bombardment.
00:38Still, families are determined to mark the moment.
00:43Today, amid our homes, rubble and destruction,
00:47we have managed to create an atmosphere of joy for children and families.
00:51And we are trying to compensate for something that existed before the war.
00:59In the south, tens of thousands remain displaced in sprawling tents across Khan Yunus.
01:07The few aid organizations on the ground are hosting communal iftars,
01:11offering rare moments of relief as families break their fast together.
01:21They brought a little joy to our hearts and made us feel the Ramadan atmosphere,
01:25especially after two years of war.
01:27Many of us never got to experience Ramadan or family gatherings, so this atmosphere is wonderful.
01:33Despite the current ceasefire, shortages persist.
01:37And Gaza's battered economy means almost everyone is dependent on humanitarian aid,
01:42still trickling in after repeated blockades.
01:46But as night falls over the camps,
01:48makeshift lighting in the place of Ramadan lanterns glows softly,
01:52a delicate symbol of celebration in a place still waiting for peace.
01:57so that's why we wait to see the peace.
01:57.
