03:43Поземьский сказал,
03:44okay, we're going to stop the ball.
03:46But now, if they throw it to Payton
03:48when we're playing,
03:49we really slow close out on him.
03:51Now he's shooting threes to Tenet.
03:53So all of a sudden,
03:55we don't know what's going on.
03:56Melton gets the ball again.
03:57Now you get it back to Pоземьский.
03:59Looking for Pоземьский.
04:00He comes off the screen and roll.
04:01What do we do?
04:02We're getting this drop coverage.
04:03And again, we start losing people
04:05because we're not sure
04:07what the game plan would really be.
04:10Because when those other three guys are there,
04:14when Draymond, Steph, and Posingas is in,
04:16you play them differently.
04:18And now, you're just out there on the island.
04:20Yeah, more than half their shots
04:23are from three this season,
04:25Golden State Warriors.
04:27And they've hit a bunch of them today,
04:2915 out of 28.
04:30Meantime, the Joker nearly a triple-double
04:32in the first half.
04:33Yeah, and you know what I love about Joker
04:34is he always makes the right play.
04:36Not some of the times, not most of the time,
04:37he always makes the right play.
04:38And that's why he's the best big man in the league.
04:40Right here, listen,
04:41one thing you can never do with the Joker
04:42is speed him up.
04:43He's going to take his time right here.
04:44Oh, you want a double?
04:45Let me get it to my guy
04:46who I know is a bona fide shooter.
04:48He's going to knock it down.
04:50Like I said, always making the right play.
04:51Right there, backdoor cut.
04:53Mr. Brown made the right play.
04:54And right here, okay, single coverage.
04:56Let me go to work.
04:57Get the rebound.
04:58Right here, go back up.
05:00Strong, boom.
05:01Joker always making the right play.
05:02And right here, Chuck always talked about this.
05:04When you got a little guy on you,
05:05you got to fry him.
05:06You got to make him pay.
05:07Multiple up and under moves,
05:08spin moves right there.
05:09Always making the right play, Mr. Joker.
05:1318, 12, and 9.
05:14But I will say something, though.
05:16You said something before the game,
05:18and I don't really pay attention to all this.
05:20Denver's terrible defensively.
05:22Yeah.
05:23Top 10 offense, bottom 10 defense.
05:26But that piggyback's on Kenny's point.
05:28Like, they got so many bad habits defensively.
05:32Like, that's why they don't have –
05:34that's why Golden State's got all these open looks.
05:36I didn't realize they were that bad.
05:38They got to get Aaron Gordon back.
05:40Because, to me, he's their best defender.
05:42But they're going to have to get better defensively
05:44if they're going to go deep in the playoffs again.
05:47It is a 76-67 Golden State lead after 24 minutes.
05:52Splash, Uncle.
05:55Thank you very much.
05:56I appreciate that, Richard.
05:57That's right.
05:57There you go.
05:59That's right.
06:00Hey, first of all, all those guys have one thing in common.
06:05They all rich.
06:07Yeah.
06:08They are.
06:09Yeah.
06:09That's – you – anybody rich –
06:11I'm sure you've got to pay to get a list.
06:12Anybody's rich is good looking.
06:14Okay.
06:14I got you.
06:17That's the Halftime Report presented.
06:19Halftime is presented by Trimfire.
06:24Check out Social again.
06:28The Spirit Halloween store for his spring look.
06:31Um, hey, listen.
06:32Let him know.
06:33You can wear anything with your name on it.
06:35I think – I think Shaq's about to let him know, too.
06:39Yeah, that's not the one that your mama ordered for me.
06:41Oh, DJ Diesel.
06:44Man, you can't have your name written on your pants, man.
06:47Tell your mom to check the Amazon slip.
06:51That wasn't the one that you ordered for me.
06:53Why?
06:59I'm going to get the next one, Cam.
07:01No, you're not.
07:02Oh, man.
07:03You're doing what I'm doing.
07:04No, this is exactly what I'm saying.
07:05I know, I know, right?
07:05You can't complain about it.
07:06I'm not.
07:07I like it.
07:07We just need to scoot up a little bit.
07:09No, no, no.
07:09Stay there, Timmy.
07:10I got you.
07:11Same thing.
07:11You do the same thing.
07:12We both do the same thing.
07:13Yeah, we do.
07:13We do the same thing.
07:14Stay right here.
07:15Right, right, right there.
07:19Man, how was your summer?
07:20Was it good?
07:21Good summer?
07:22Yeah.
07:22It was good.
07:23It was short.
07:23It was short?
07:24Where did you go?
07:25You go anywhere?
07:25Europe?
07:26Japan.
07:27Japan.
07:27Oh, how was that?
07:28Amazing.
07:28I can't wait to go.
07:29Hey!
07:31The stuff guys talk about during an NBA game is we welcome you back to NBA Sunday Showcase
07:36on ABC, presented by Popeyes.
07:4176-67, the Warriors lead at halftime.
07:43Our first half stats brought to you by Pizza Hut.
07:45No Steph Curry.
07:47Orzingis is out today.
07:48He was supposed to play, then got sick.
07:50Draymond Green was supposed to play.
07:52He's out with a back injury.
07:5325 assists.
07:55Best first half of the year for the Warriors.
07:57Dave Pasch, Doris Burke, and Malika Andrews.
08:00When Al Horford was acquired, they thought, yes, he's got championship experience, but also,
08:05Doris, the fact that he fits the offense.
08:07I mean, he's a space shooting big, sweet shooting.
08:11He can go north of 40% easily nightly.
08:14He plays exceptional defense, whether at the four or the five.
08:17And he's been a challenge for Denver because of his kick and pop ability.
08:27And the Warriors hang on.
08:29Denver scored 67 and shot 50% from the floor.
08:32Jokic, one assist shy of a triple-double.
08:35Pat Spencer, who barely played and didn't score in that first half, despite starting, got to foul trouble.
08:41He gets a basket to start the third.
08:46Christian Brown at 12 first-quarter points, none in the second.
08:50Jamal Murray with 13 points.
08:53He gets into the lane, gets bumped, count the basket, and one for Jamal Murray.
09:01Oh, just simple two-man action with two guys who have a long history and a lot of success together.
09:07Come off the screen, absorb the contact, have the strength and balance.
09:12Like, the balance is the undersold part of that to me.
09:15So much of that is the strength in your legs, the ability to absorb it, and be strong enough to
09:20finish.
09:23Santos picks up the foul, his third.
09:25And Jamal Murray shooting close to 90% at the foul line.
09:30Denver 14 of 15 as a team at the line.
09:36Warriors with just nine healthy players.
09:40Santos through the lane, and it's knocked away by Jokic, and a turnover force by the Denver D.
09:47Jokic on the move.
09:49Had eight assists in the first quarter, one in the second.
09:53He's got a game-high 18 points and now up to 21 on the three ball.
09:59But that's, you know, that's Strother, too, understanding now, how do I play with Jokic?
10:05Recognizing Jokic wanted the ball back.
10:07They made eye contact them and playing off.
10:11Moody looks to answer, cannot.
10:13Rebound, Jokic is 13th.
10:16He's made six of his last nine shots after an 0-for-5 start.
10:22Got position on Santos.
10:25Instead, they keep it on the perimeter.
10:27Browns three, no good.
10:29Jokic battling, and a loose ball foul on Golden State.
10:33That's on Santos.
10:34That's number four.
10:37Let's watch Nicole Jokic and Julian Strother.
10:42Jokic wants the ball back after the initial Strother touch.
10:46So, just wisely, keep playing the two-man game.
10:49Eventually, good things are going to happen.
10:51If that defender doesn't take the step closer, he's going to pull the trigger on the three.
10:57Denver 36-21, third right now in the West, tied in the lost column with Houston and the Lakers as
11:03Richard comes in for Santos, who has to sit with four fouls.
11:07Golden State is an eighth in the West, but ahead of the Clippers by just two games.
11:13You want to be seven or eight if you're in the playing, because then you get two cracks at making
11:17the playoffs.
11:18It would be really hard to get into the top six for Golden State with only 25 games left.
11:23Strother, in and out on the triple try, rebound Melton.
11:31Orford, nice pass underneath.
11:34Richard with the finish.
11:35That is 27 assists now for Golden State.
11:38How many buck-back cuts have they been scored on, Denver?
11:43Golden State, I think, averages about 5.2 cut layups a game.
11:48It's been above that number.
11:52Jokic on the face-up, jabs and fires, and it's good for Jokic.
11:59The game is easy for Nikola Jokic.
12:03And hard on everybody trying to defend him.
12:06Yes.
12:09The wrist not giving him issues shooting the ball today.
12:13Seven for his last ten from the floor.
12:15Orford in the paint, timer at four.
12:18Melton for three, no good.
12:20Kept alive by Horford.
12:22Out to Moody.
12:26Melton on the attack.
12:28Able to score on Strother.
12:30He's just reading the angle, and that's a turnover on Jokic, a silly one.
12:34That's just reading which angle for Melton the defender has taken.
12:39And as soon as he saw that defender take the wrong angle,
12:42boy, he just, he's got a good feel.
12:44He can play with and without the ball.
12:48I know he's not shot the three well, but I do think he's a dangerous catch-and-shoot guy.
12:53Well, they thought he'd be a big part of their team last year,
12:56but he tore his ACL earlier in the year.
12:58And while out for the season, they traded him to get some help with Dennis Schroeder,
13:03but they wanted to bring Melton back.
13:04They did this season.
13:06And when healthy, he played a big role.
13:08Very good defender.
13:12Jokic finds Murray.
13:13The three, no good.
13:14The putback is by Brown.
13:16And a foul.
13:17Look at the hop on that weak side board.
13:20That's, that's, it's a simple thing.
13:22It's a Christian Brown type thing.
13:25But I don't know that, just watch how quickly he's off his feet.
13:29Like that explosion, that elevation, that's what you've been waiting for if you're a Denver Nugget fan.
13:35Melton's foul, his first, third team foul.
13:38Free throw is good for Brown.
13:41Fourth year, out of Kansas.
13:44Won the title there, and then with Denver in 23.
13:49He's got 15 points.
13:51Horford missed it in the lane.
13:53Out of bounds.
13:55Going to be Denver ball.
13:57So silly turnover by Jokic here.
14:01Defender just cheats up a little bit.
14:02But if you're a great shooter, you're just, the ball's always being prepared to go into the shooting pocket.
14:12He re-evaluated in about a week, dealing with that right knee injury.
14:16It's the seventh straight game he's missed.
14:18The Warriors are two and four without him.
14:21Missed 18 games now in the season, so he's not going to be eligible for any postseason awards.
14:25Second team All-NBA last year.
14:28Shot ready, baby.
14:29You've got to be shot ready.
14:30You know, everybody in the building, including players, probably wanted to see him take that shot in full street clothes
14:35from the bench.
14:37What do you think?
14:3850-50 chance he makes?
14:39Better, better than 50-50.
14:41No defender in front of him.
14:43Milton picked up another foul, his second.
14:49Defense, yeah.
14:50So it's going to be a technical here.
14:52Murray will shoot the free throw.
14:53Try to make it a three-point game.
15:0316 points for Murray.
15:08This is the free throw, just the second miss for Denver today.
15:14Free throws from Jamal Murray are going to give Denver Nugget fans PTSD, because that's been the chaotic ending, right?
15:22Which, for a guy that shoots almost 90%, made the first two after getting fouled on a three against the
15:29Clippers, and then missed the game-tying free throw.
15:32So, Jokic with the rebound and the putback off the Murray miss.
15:35It's a two-point contest.
15:38Now, Horford's got a mismatch.
15:40Can they get him the ball?
15:42Nice pass by Horford to Richard.
15:44You know, we're talking about the assisting being done by Nikola Jokic, and that's appropriate, but I believe that's Al
15:50Horford's seventh assist.
15:52Feels the double, immediately reacts.
15:54His passing skill's on display.
15:56Johnson drives, can't drop it in, but he was fouled.
16:00Johnson just three points on the day.
16:02We've been talking about the back-cutting happening.
16:04Well, the guy assisting on some of the back-cuts for the Golden State Warriors is Al Horford, and that's
16:10just a simple post-up opportunity.
16:12He's feeling the cheat from the other side, then sees the cheat with a little glance over the left shoulder,
16:17and boom, it's put on time and on target.
16:21Foul on Spencer, his third, and penalty situation.
16:25Denver shooting free throws the rest of the quarter as we look at our upcoming national TV schedule.
16:29The Lakers home to Boston tonight on NBC and Peacock.
16:33NBA TV, the Clippers take on Orlando.
16:35Tomorrow, Piston Spurs, Utah-Houston on Peacock for more.
16:39Go to nba.com or visit the NBA app.
16:43Is Mike Tirico calling that late then?
16:46Because he might want to fly in from Milan Cortino and call that.
16:52Probably a little bit superhuman, but he's been ridiculously good.
16:56Did the Super Bowl, then went right to do the Olympics, and what a fabulous closing statement today by the
17:00great Mike Tirico,
17:01our longtime friend and colleague.
17:05Terrific work by the folks at NBC.
17:09A turnover as Hardaway gets the pick.
17:11Denver can tire and take the lead.
17:13Here's Johnson downhill.
17:15Can't scoop it in.
17:16Late whistle, though.
17:18Another Golden State foul.
17:19More free throws for the Nuggets.
17:22And you hear the crowd reacting, but this has been something we see fairly consistently.
17:30Pajemski pointing at the screen.
17:32Steve Kerr not even looking at the back bench.
17:34We'll take a look at the contact.
17:36I mean, there's enough body contact for him to change the angle of the guy pursuing the rim.
17:43Second foul on Pajemski.
17:45Quinton Post will come in to replace Horford, and a timeout by Steve Kerr.
17:50One-point game.
18:03Looking for more stats?
18:05Just ask Siri.
18:07Who leads the league in three-pointers?
18:09Two, three.
18:11The answer is that man right there, although not available, but 4,233 career threes for
18:17Steph Curry, leading the league again this year.
18:19But how about his teammates with 15 threes without him tonight?
18:22Well, this is all coming through the first two quarters, and it's come from a variety
18:27of different players and a variety of different spots.
18:30Mr. Santos has made two from that exact spot.
18:33Al Horford has been dynamic all game long.
18:36But if you want to know what's gotten them back into the game, as you see, nine players available,
18:40seven with at least one, but not a single one through almost the first five minutes.
18:46So how have Denver climbed back in this and made it a one-point game, doing a better job guarding
18:52the three?
18:53And Denver's getting to the free throw line.
18:56Now six of seven this quarter at the line.
18:58It's our first tie since the game was two to two.
19:02As Cam Johnson, who was acquired in the Michael Porter Jr. trade with Brooklyn, battled injury this year,
19:09but his back, six straight game he's played.
19:13He's got seven points.
19:14Moody, baseline drive and finish.
19:18That's a great drive.
19:20And rim protection, obviously.
19:22Defense, rim protection, a number of different areas have been a challenge for this Denver team.
19:27You're no Peyton Watson, no Aaron Gordon, both very good individual defenders.
19:31Not with you today.
19:33Watson out for the sixth straight game with a hamstring injury.
19:37Moody defends well against Murray.
19:41Now Moody, who's got 17 points, averaging that over the last handful of games.
19:50Murray, call for the foul.
19:53And barking that he didn't get a call down the other end on the post.
19:56Are they going to give him a tee for that?
19:58They did.
19:58Wow.
19:58Joe Flores gives Jamal Murray a technical foul.
20:07Take a look at the call he thought he should have gotten on the previous possession.
20:14Looks like he got hit.
20:15It sure does.
20:17So he's really upset.
20:19He's going to reach in and make a little contact and immediately say,
20:22hey, how about down the other end?
20:25And a quick technical foul.
20:28So I wonder if it was what he said.
20:32But that's quick.
20:35Free throw is good in possession as well for Denver, or for Golden State, rather,
20:40up three at the midway point of the third quarter.
20:45Moody, in traffic, to Pajemski with five on the timer.
20:50He drives, he floats, he misses, bat it around.
20:53Post has it now.
20:56Back out for a reset.
20:59Richard will hoist.
21:00Too strong on the three.
21:02They're 0 for 3 now in the quarter from behind the arc.
21:05Yet they still lead.
21:08Moody, first technical of the season, by the way, for Jamal Murray.
21:13Murray with Pajemski on his hip, throws it into the fourth row.
21:22By the way, Jokic is still on nine assists.
21:24He had eight in the first quarter.
21:30Moody drives into the lane.
21:32Richard, wide open.
21:34No good.
21:36And Jokic fouled.
21:38He'll be shooting on the other end with the Warriors over the limit for the last couple minutes.
21:43It is ridiculous how quickly Nikoli Jokic gets his eyes up the floor.
21:49Sometimes I feel like his eyes are up the floor before he's even corralled the rebound.
21:56The amount of times he can cover the length of the floor or 30 feet.
22:01But I just want you to watch where his eyes go quickly.
22:05See what I'm saying?
22:06His body is turning and his vision is already up the floor.
22:11That split second in a league with the level of athletes that comes every single night.
22:19It is a, it seems like a small thing.
22:22It's an enormous thing.
22:25Certainly master of the outlet.
22:26But one of the greatest outlet passers in the history of the league.
22:30Here's Malika.
22:31And it's something that we could be seeing for years to come because Nikola Jokic celebrated a birthday this past
22:36week.
22:36And it's not often a player's 31 years old.
22:38And you ask how long does he want to do this?
22:40But he has a nonchalant nature to his game that made me ask him that very question.
22:45How much do you care?
22:46And he said, you know, I care deeply.
22:48I care a lot.
22:49Maybe I don't show it the way that others will.
22:51But he told me he plans to play as long as his body holds up and his game certainly will
22:55deep into his 30s, guys.
22:57You'd have to think, right, Doris, with the way he plays, how long he can play.
23:02Well, so sure.
23:03I just love that she asked him the question.
23:08Transition opportunity, Brown hangs and gets it to drop.
23:11But you can just, that's his presence.
23:13And that's the connection between those two guys.
23:15But just to Malika's point, his attitude is different than a lot of other guys.
23:20And you can tell, watch him orchestrate a basketball game.
23:25First lead of the game for Denver after Jokic got his 10th assist, another triple-double.
23:30See, the head up immediately again.
23:32And just, again, split second makes the change for his teammate and the ability to get the bucket.
23:39Fall on post, so Jokic will shoot free throws again.
23:42Career triple-double number 185.
23:45He recently moved past Oscar Robertson into second.
23:50And Russell Westbrook is ahead of him by 22.
23:58And Jokic 10 of 10 at the line.
24:01And just to clarify, guys, when I ask the question, do you care, that's not challenging a belief of whether
24:08or not he does.
24:09I think in a different language, when you're already speaking a different language, when you're coming to fans through maybe
24:15your second or third language,
24:16there's this assumption that's made because he can be so casual in his famous quote, the job is done, now
24:22we can go home.
24:22And I asked him, just to be very clear, what do you care more about, a horse racing championship or
24:28an NBA?
24:28And he said, don't worry, guys, it is the NBA.
24:30Yeah.
24:31Oh, Malika, no doubt.
24:32I think his compassion, competitive fire, the way you see him communicate constantly to his teammates, I love that you
24:40asked the question, and I love the honest response.
24:43Might be the MVP frontrunner along with Sheik Gilgis-Alexander.
24:47It's really neck and neck again.
24:48There are others in the mix.
24:50As you have a foul inside on Denver.
24:52Denver, second team foul, it's on Hardaway, his first, but again, Jokic, he can only miss one more game and
25:00be eligible.
25:01Yeah.
25:02It's a very cool t-shirt in Denver, and it's his picture, maybe a profile, and it says, not since
25:09Wilt.
25:10Well, he's about to do something nobody has ever done, lead the league in assists and rebounds.
25:14Guy Santos, nice drive here, he's going to get some free throws.
25:17Like, we're witnessing greatness on a nightly basis.
25:21And it should not be taken for granted.
25:24And I don't believe for a second, as nonchalant as he can be, doesn't love talking to the media, this
25:31guy cares, cares deeply, and his competitive spirit is an all-time great.
25:38Christian Brown commits to foul his second, and Santos at the line.
25:42Santos has four fouls, Spencer has four.
25:45Again, with nine healthy players, they need both of those guys.

26:02And, you know, I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but it just, this is reminding me of
26:05a conversation that the guys in the studio had last night,
26:08where Shaq was conversing with Carl Anthony Towns, and Charles' point was, you can't make everybody be a killer.
26:16I'm going to say this, Nikola Jokic is a killer, to their point.
26:21And the five players have won four MVP awards, MJ, Wilk, LeBron James, as the three goes for Brown, Kareem
26:30Abdul-Jabbar, and Bill Russell.
26:31And at some point, Jokic is just going to get number four, whether it's this year, next, or beyond.
26:37Melton off target on the three, Golden State still without a three this quarter.
26:41And now they trail by three, and Denver with the ball.
26:47Jokic has position on the smaller, Pajemski, going to school.
26:51It misses, but he tips it in, his 18th board, and 30th point.
26:56That's just touch, right? Incredible touch.
26:58The first one's soft enough, he probably realizes a little bit too much English.
27:01I know exactly where it's coming off.
27:04Twelve points in the quarter for Jokic.
27:06Three no good, Pajemski.
27:07Three no good, Jokic fires down Florida Brown to try to get the break started, but the Warriors get back.
27:14Golden State a top ten defense.
27:17Jokic, another terrific look, the extra pass, read beautifully by Melton.
27:21And now Pajemski hits the cutting, Santos for the flush.
27:25Yep, you've got to get back to finding some easy baskets.
27:28You mentioned it, Dave, would there be a dry spell for this team?
27:32They've not been as prolific from three.
27:35Yeah, 0 for 10 here in the quarter after 15 for 29 in the first half.
27:43Jokic on the perimeter, trying to drive on post.
27:46Oh, what a great move, spinning past him and laying it in.
27:50Such good footwork.
27:53He's got 17 30-point games on the year now.
27:57And almost 24% of the games in his career have been triple-doubles the most in NBA history.
28:03The three no good, another miss.
28:05But Peyton bats it back.
28:07Melton couldn't hit the shot.
28:09Peyton able to save it to Santos.
28:12Harry Peyton, one of those guys, well, you better be constantly aware of where he is.
28:17Shot clock down to three as Melton puts it on the floor, goes at the chest of Jokic, and scores
28:23off the window.
28:28Two-minute mark in the third, Denver by three, overcoming a 14-point deficit.
28:34Murray off the side of the rim.
28:39Denver now out shooting Golden State, 52% to 48%.
28:47Peyton wide open.
28:49Another misfire from deep, though, for the Warriors in the quarter.
28:53And a loose ball foul, free throws for Denver again on the other side.
28:57Two points, 19 rebounds, 11 assists for Nikola Jokic.
29:01Triple-double, number 185, second most all-time.
29:05This stat is even more ridiculous.
29:0724% of the games he plays in over the course of his career, he gets a triple-double.
29:12And he has been brilliant in every aspect in this game today.
29:16And the game just feels easy to Nikola Jokic.
29:18A year ago, he said he thought he was playing his best basketball.
29:21He continues at such a high level.
29:23And it comes in a lot of different phases.
29:26The three-point shooting, there was a brief struggle from there.
29:29Touch, turnovers, a lot of different things.
29:32But at his best, an absolute monster to deal with.
29:35And maybe the best thing is he just makes everybody around him so much better.
29:39He's not a thirsty scorer, but if you need him to go off for 40, that's an easy job for
29:44him to do.
29:46He's got 14 points in the quarter.
29:48Golden State, as a team, has 17.
29:50This after the Warriors scored a season-high 76 in the first half.
29:57Brown at the line.
30:00Oh, my goodness.
30:01Did you see?
30:02Looks like he's got bear claws scrapes on his right arm, Nikola Jokic.
30:08Look at that.
30:09That is a daily aesthetic.
30:14I think he definitely, in NBA history, has the most scratches taken.
30:20Good thing he's got two tough brothers that have kind of prepared him for physical battle.
30:26I want to know who's not clipping their nails, though.
30:28We get the big scratches.
30:30That's a strategy.
30:32Golden State turns it over.
30:34Hardaway pulls up.
30:35Misses the three.
30:36Brown with the offensive rebound.
30:39Johnson on the attack.
30:40Draws the foul.
30:41More free throws for Denver.
30:43They've already taken 27-13 here in the third quarter.
30:47Well, if you want to know how they make up the deficit from three,
30:50they're plus 14 points in the paint, plus 12 from the free throw line.
30:56Third foul on Richard.
30:58You see Steph Curry's out.
30:59You see his brother Seth.
31:00He's supposed to be part of the rotation, too.
31:02He hasn't played, but dealing with sciatica.
31:04So those guys are out.
31:06Porzingis is out with an illness.
31:07They don't know yet if he's going to travel tomorrow when the Warriors head out on the road to New
31:11Orleans.
31:12We don't know about Draymond Green's back.
31:14That flared up before the game.
31:15He was in the starting lineup.
31:17And now you've got Santos with five fouls, a couple other guys with four, running out of bodies.
31:25Cam Johnson knocking down the foul shots.
31:28Lead is six for Denver.
31:33Golden State led by 14.
31:34This is the largest lead for the Nuggets.
31:37Pat Spencer's on the floor with four fouls.
31:40He turns it over again.
31:41Brown to Brown for the layoff.
31:48The lead is up to eight now for Denver.
31:50Just outside a minute to go in the third.
31:56Feels like a better defensive effort here in the third, does it not?
31:59Three straight turnovers on just terrible passes by the Warriors.
32:05And on defense, they don't locate Brown, but that three not even close.
32:10He didn't look particularly confident.
32:12And the shot takes time to load, but he did not look confident with that.
32:18And a rough close to the quarter for the home team.
32:23Shot clock down to eight.
32:24Pajemski just one for nine, got caught in the air.
32:27That one falls off the rim, and Brown with a rebound.
32:32Five-second difference in the game and shot clocks here at the end of the third quarter.
32:44Shot clock down to eight.
32:46Jokic, and that's knocked away from Brown.
32:51Richard weaving around Jokic who pokes it away.
32:54Out of bounds.
32:55It will stay with the Warriors at 5.9 on the clock.
32:58Just tremendous hands.
33:00This guy coming downhill, crosses you over, turns you around, and just the quick, quick hands.
33:08That speed, that hand speed, because you know athletically it's a challenge, so you better have great hands.
33:14He's got three steals in this game and a couple other knockaways.
33:18Spencer inbounding underneath.
33:20Melton scores.
33:20Got inside of Brown.
33:25Four seconds to go in the quarter.
33:27Brown launching for midcourt.
33:29And that is the end of the third.
33:31Denver takes a six-point lead in the final frame.
33:35A triple-double for Jokic.
33:37This presentation of NBA Sunday Showcase presented by Popeyes will continue after this message.
33:43And a word from our ABC stations.
33:52You're watching NBA Sunday Showcase on ABC presented by Popeyes here with Al Horford.
33:58And, Al, you helped lead the charge in the first half to tie the most threes and a half for
34:02this franchise this season.
34:03It dried up a little bit in the third.
34:05How do you get that going again?
34:06No, we have to start turning the ball over.
34:08A lot of turnovers.
34:09I had a couple there.
34:11And just in general, we have to do a better job with that and stop following so much.
34:15If we stop following, we'll give ourselves a chance.
34:17You got the late call-up for the start after Draymond was a late scratch.
34:21And with that comes the assignment of Nikola Jokic.
34:24Early on, it was the assist.
34:25Now he's getting the scoring going.
34:26What are you watching as this game goes down the stretch?
34:29Yeah, we have to make sure that he doesn't get anything easy.
34:31You know, if he's taking some tough, contested ones, we'll live with those.
34:34But we just have to make sure we make it tough for him.
34:37He's probably the best player in our game right now.
34:39And then maybe your son will get a birthday present, a Warriors win.
34:42So happy birthday to Ion.
34:43Thanks so much.
34:43All right.
34:44Thank you.
34:45Guys, back to you.
34:4617 points for Horford all in the first half.
34:49You mentioned Jokic Malika.
34:50He's on the bench to start the fourth.
34:52Denver up six.
34:53A minute gone by here in the final frame.
34:56Pajemski in the lane.
34:58It drops.
34:59He had missed his last nine shots from the floor.
35:02Now has a chance at a three-point play.
35:05Well, and you're positioned where you want to be.
35:07With everybody you're missing, you're trying to get to the fourth quarter.
35:10Down inside five with a chance to win the game.
35:12Nice little up fake to get Valanchunas off his feet and reacting.
35:18And then he's going to get some touch.
35:19Just that up fake got Valanchunas going.
35:22And just something to Malika's point and what Al responded to.
35:26Like turnovers and too much fouling have been a part of Golden State for, what,
35:31the last five or six years, right?
35:34It's been a problem for Steve Curry.
35:36He's talked about it.
35:37You know, being able to guard with discipline,
35:39not putting your opponent at the free throw line.
35:41You think about the great Spurs team.
35:44They were always amongst the best defensive teams and didn't foul.
35:49Ten third quarter fouls committed by Golden State.
35:52Five turnovers, which led to nine Denver points.
35:56Cam Johnson's three not even close.
35:58Denver just six of 23 from deep.
36:02Fifteen made threes by the Warriors.
36:04They have missed 14 in a row, though, from behind the arc going back to the second quarter.
36:12They had a 14-point lead at one point.
36:14They're trying to end the two-game losing streak.
36:19Denver trying to stay in the three spot in the west.
36:21Hardaway's three is a brick.
36:24Nobody can put it in the basket here to start the fourth, at least from deep.
36:30But Jemsky keeps it.
36:32Johnson on his hip.
36:41Payton, he'll put up a three and get it.
36:44First one of the half for the Warriors.
36:46I just love his spirit.
36:49Truly.
36:50Like, he is such a good team guy, and that's a big-time, timely bucket from GP2.
36:56Eight straight points for the Warriors to tie it back up again.
37:01Balanchunas on the face-up.
37:03Gets past post.
37:04Attacks!
37:05And goes around the rim for the slam.
37:07Look at the crowd, ooh and ah.
37:10Think a little taken aback that a guy that size would reverse dunk it.
37:14Former top five pick by the Raptors.
37:17Another Warriors turnover.
37:19Brown goes at post and fakes it home.
37:22And Steve Kerr calls a quick fourth quarter timeout with his team now down four.
37:30Well, you keep hounding on the turnovers.
37:32It's appropriate because defense turns to offense.
37:35Another turnover, strip steal.
37:37Bruce Brown is thinking one thing.
37:39I'm going to attack the body of the big and get us a four-point edge.
37:43NBA Sunday Showcase on ABC is presented by Popeyes.
37:47Love that chicken from Popeyes.
37:49Today's crunch time brought to you by Popeyes.
37:52So defense turning to offense.
37:54Four pass by Spencer.
37:56His teammate falls down.
37:57Perfect execution of a two-on-one off a turnover.
38:00Just keep the ball moving.
38:02And Bruce Brown is thinking one thing.
38:04And boy, I just can't get over.
38:06The start of the season, I did not think he looked like himself.
38:09The activity, the anticipation, the mindset to turn and score it off a turnover.
38:15Affecting their pace.
38:17Going to give Christian Brown a shot.
38:23But ten points for Bruce Brown off the bench.
38:27And a big part of the championship season, 2023 for Denver.
38:34Nuggets lead by four.
38:36They're playing without Aaron Gordon again tonight.
38:38The 12 straight game he's missed.
38:40Peyton Watson out as well.
38:42Moody connects on a three.
38:45That's important, right?
38:47Your X5, your center, is on Gary Payton.
38:51Because, right, he's the least likely to take a three.
38:53So if you're Gary Payton, do you go stretch to three?
38:55No.
38:56You go set a great screen.
39:00Santos, or excuse me, a post fell down.
39:03And the Denver bench thought it was a flop.
39:05Did look like there was accidental contact by Balanchunas upstairs.
39:09Richard fires underneath to Moody who had it knocked away and stolen by Cam Johnson.
39:18Denver by one, eight and a half to go.
39:21Denver keeping Murray and Jokic on the bench for now.
39:25Jokic has played 30 minutes.
39:26Murray at 27.
39:27Brown will take a straight on three.
39:29It's off the back iron.
39:30Yeah, they're using post to guard Bruce Brown.
39:33And they're just saying, all right, Bruce, go ahead.
39:35You've got the three.
39:36Take it.
39:39Denver's six for 25 for three.
39:42They've made 11 fewer threes, but they get turnovers.
39:45Brown with the easy two.
39:47There he is.
39:49Live activity, anticipation, making plays, making things happen.
39:5416 turnovers now.
39:58Ten in the second half and three this quarter by Golden State.
40:03Shot clock inside a tent.
40:05Pajemski in traffic.
40:06Richard knew Valanchunas was coming, had to float it up.
40:09He missed it.
40:10Cam Johnson took a shot to the face.
40:14Denver ball up three.
40:15Murray and Jokic will check in at the next dead ball.
40:19Brown feeds Valanchunas, and he scores in the lane.
40:24Good finish.
40:26Really good finish.
40:31Delay a game warning against Denver.
40:33The next one will be a technical foul.
40:40Steve Kerr will counter with Santos and Horford.
40:43Again, just nine healthy, available players for the Warriors.
40:47Try to stay within striking distance, trailing by five, near the seven-minute mark here in the fourth.
40:54Working the perimeter, Payton catch and shoot, got a three.
40:58Again, very judicious.
41:01Got to be wide open, got to be set.
41:03He takes the right threes, Gary Payton, and then goes around and does everything else he should do.
41:09One, two, three, four.
41:11Golden State's made three out of its last four from three after missing 13 straight.
41:17Shot clock at five.
41:19Feeding the post.
41:20Valanchunas working on post.
41:22The sweeping hook is no good.
41:25Pajemski clears.
41:28Here's Payton, who's got 15 points off the bench.
41:35Payton's going to get a good look again.
41:37This time the three is off target.
41:51Shot clock inside of ten for the Nuggets.
41:54Brown going baseline, one-hander.
41:58Richard's got it, two on three.
42:01Golden State will wait.
42:02Now hits the trailing Moody, who drives, gets past Hardaway.
42:06It ties the game at 1-0-9.
42:09Timeout, Denver.
42:21BBC presented by Popeyes.
42:24Great doubleheader Wednesday.
42:25Teams with the best records in the league.
42:27And Detroit right now ahead of Oklahoma City.
42:29That matchup at 7-30, followed by Denver and Boston.
42:33NBA countdown starts it off at 7 Eastern time.
42:39Looking at the Western Conference standings, Golden State is currently in eighth.
42:43And you want to be, if you can't get in the top six, seven or eight,
42:46because then you get two cracks in the play-in at getting into the playoffs.
42:50And they're up two games on the Clippers right now.
42:52By any means necessary, yet again in a game against a contender.
42:56Last Wednesday night, it was against San Antonio.
43:00Look at the collective effort it has taken to have you locked up with the Denver Nuggets,
43:06who are playing their third game in four nights.
43:09Denver has not been sensational in clutch time.
43:12This last six minutes is going to be interesting on both sides.
43:16And they have Murray and Jokic back out there.
43:19Denver 4 for 12 with Jokic on the bench.
43:21He misses a three.
43:22He had made his first two.
43:24And the Warriors can retake the lead.
43:27Pajemski puts up the three.
43:29It's good.
43:32You have missed so many.
43:36And then you just got to keep confident.
43:38And now a turnover, a miss-shot turnover by Jokic.
43:46The Warriors have made four of their last six threes after going 0 for 13.
43:52They were 15-28 in the first half.
43:55Shot clock down to six.
43:57Pajemski bounce to Santos.
43:59He'll put it on the deck.
44:00Leans in.
44:01Kicks it out.
44:02Pajemski with one.
44:03Poisson hits.
44:05The ultimate teardrop.
44:07That thing was in the air forever.
44:09Wow.
44:10Just keep moving.
44:11Keep working the possession.
44:13Almost another turnover.
44:15Moses Moody asking for a review.
44:17Steve Kerr looking to the back.
44:19But back-to-back buckets.
44:21This under duress of the shot clock.
44:23Look at how much air is underneath that.
44:26Five straight.
44:27And Steph, every time they score, has been loving life.
44:31And this was the walk-in three.
44:33Short close by Strother.
44:35Easy three.
44:37Ten straight points for Golden State.
44:40And Pajemski's three for three this quarter.
44:42Moody picks up the foul as third.
44:44And a knock away by Melton.
44:46The steal and the finish.
44:49Another Denver timeout as the Warriors are rolling right now.
44:54They have lost their edge, Denver.
44:58Momentum, Golden State.
45:03Twenty-one to eight.
45:05Look at the three-point shooting.
45:06And here's what's happened today, in my opinion.
45:10Denver comes in three and four, so probably a little fatigued.
45:12But also, looking at an undermanned Golden State team.
45:15You fight all the way back, do a much better job in the second half, actually take the lead, and
45:20then I feel like you relaxed.
45:22You can't have careless turnovers.
45:24You can't blow possessions with missed easy shots.
45:55Like, this has been at issue for Denver.
45:57To the half for Horford, a 15-to-nothing run by the home team.
46:03They double Murray.
46:04Has it stripped.
46:06Another turnover.
46:08Kojemski.
46:09Melton.
46:10Way off the mark on the three.
46:12Jokic the long rebound and outlet.
46:14Murray down floor.
46:15Gets the layup.
46:17A big, big bucket.
46:18You needed to stop the bleeding right there.
46:20One of those key Jokic end-to-end passes.
46:23But you've got to find a way to make stops here.
46:26Jokic now with 20 rebounds, 12 assists, and 32 points.
46:32Melton around the screen.
46:33He's got Jokic on him now with a shot clock down to six.
46:37Melton.
46:38Off the bounce.
46:39Rainbow three.
46:40No.
46:40Kojemski with the putback.
46:42One of the best rebounding guards in the league, and it's on display right there.
46:46Couple white jerseys standing and ball watching the shot.
46:50Kojemski goes right to it.
46:52He's got 13 boards.
46:54Murray underneath to Brown.
46:56Blew the layup.
46:57The tip won't go either.
46:59Three minutes to go.
47:00Golden State ball and a ten-point lead.
47:03And the Warriors hang on.
47:05This is the kind of game in the standings that you look back and could be absolutely massive.
47:11And Denver would fall below Houston and the Lakers in the loss column.
47:15The fifth if they lose this game.
47:17Kojemski got another one.
47:25What a run by the Warriors.
47:27No Steph Curry.
47:28No Butler.
47:29No Draymond Green.
47:31No Porzingis.
47:32And they're rolling on a 20-2 run.
47:34Jokic, though, drops in a three.
47:37Now you push up in pressure.
47:38You're going to try to make some things happen.
47:42How about Brandon Kojemski's fourth quarter?
47:46Because it felt like a struggle prior to that.
47:49He's got 13 of his 16 here in the fourth.
47:53Incredible.
47:55One-on-one against Johnson with a shot clock at five.
48:00Kojemski scores again on the baseline with an incredibly difficult angle.
48:06A six of six now from the floor in the quarter.
48:10He was one for nine in the game at one point.
48:13Johnson has it.
48:14Swatted by Horford.
48:15Kept alive, though.
48:17Brown drives and kicks.
48:19They need it.
48:20They get it.
48:21A three from Jamal Murray to make it a nine-point game.
48:25Boy, it feels like Denver's a little bit stunned about what's happened here.
48:31Brandon Kojemski has now one assist shy of a triple-double.
48:34He's been that good in the second half.
48:36Foul called here on Denver, the first in the last two minutes.
48:42They have played so hard.
48:44They weathered the missed threes.
48:45Watch Brandon Kojemski just sit and hustle.
48:49And then the three-point shot, a walk-in three.
48:52Boom.
48:53You talked about the tough angle, right?
48:56Looks like he's in trouble here on the baseline.
48:58You see Shea make that shot an awful lot.
49:00He's going to react with a little bit of a smile.
49:03How can you not when you've had the quarter this young man has had?
49:06So good.
49:07Been in and out of the starting lineup this year.
49:09The numbers had not been as good as that first year when he showed so much promise.
49:14But, man, he has been phenomenal today in 35 minutes.
49:17Can't get the ball inbounds here.
49:18Has to call up timeout.
49:20That leaves each team with one with 90 seconds to go here in San Fran.
49:25He's on ABC.
49:26It's Ernie, Kenny, Charles, and Shaq at 8 Eastern, then again at 11 Eastern for inside the NBA.
49:32They pass Doris Burke and Malik Andrews here at Chase Center where the Warriors have outscored the Nuggets in the
49:39fourth quarter, 31-16.
49:42We're talking about the culture.
49:43We're talking about the standard of play and level of effort taken.
49:46Are they going to have to use a timeout?
49:48No.
49:48Five-second call.
49:49Wow.
49:50They just had to burn a timeout on the last inbound attempt.
49:55And so it'll be Denver ball down nine.
49:58That's an eternity.
49:591.30 on the clock.
50:00Great job, you know, making it difficult to inbound the ball.
50:04Force that.
50:05That's a critical, critical error.
50:07Let's see, can they get a three here?
50:10Jokic from straight on.
50:12Fumbles it momentarily.
50:14Doubled.
50:14Hits Cam Johnson.
50:16Johnson's three short.
50:17Offensive rebound Brown.
50:191.10 to go.
50:21Denver down nine.
50:22Corner three.
50:23Johnson no good.
50:24Rebound Melton.
50:27Now at the one-minute mark.
50:34And Melton will pull it out.
50:36Well, I'll tell you what, Dave.
50:37The disappointing loss to the Clippers,
50:40followed by a record-setting win against Portland.
50:44You think you've righted the ship.
50:46And now a disappointing loss to an undermanned Golden State team.
50:51I mean, you come out of the break if you're David Adelman.
50:54You're getting healthier.
50:56Obviously, Aaron Gordon and Peyton Watson are two big misses,
50:59but Brown's getting healthier.
51:01To do this, you lose two of three.
51:05Just very, very surprising.
51:11Hurry through the lane.
51:13Knocked out of bounds by Golden State.
51:17Again, you think of the guys that aren't playing, but by him.
51:21Yet, the Warriors put up 126 points.
51:24They get a near triple-double for Brandon Pajemski.
51:28He's got 18 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists.
51:32Moody's got 23.
51:33Horford, 20.
51:34Melton, 20.
51:35Peyton, 15.
51:36Santos, 17.
51:38Murray, no on the three.
51:39Rebound Pajemski, his 15th.
51:44And Golden State will improve to three and four without Steph Curry.
51:49He's going to miss a few more games here.
51:52Maybe they can keep this up as Horford slams it down for the exclamation point.
51:59He's been incredible all afternoon, Al Horford.
52:04Golden State gets its 30th win of the year.
52:07They will stay two games up on the Clippers for that very important number eight spot.
52:13Meanwhile, Denver drops to 36 and 22.
52:16And now in the loss column, falls behind Houston and the Lakers
52:20and is tied with Minnesota for fifth.
52:23Our final score, Golden State 128, Denver 117.
52:29The Nuggets waste a triple-double from Nikola Jokic
52:33and blow a fourth-quarter lead as the Warriors get hot late,
52:39end up with 21 threes and win it by 11.
52:44ABC World News Tonight or your local news over most of these ABC stations.
52:48Coming up next, for Doris Burke, Malik Andrews, Dave Pasch, thanks so long.
