Shadow Education Secretary Laura Trott has accused Labour of “education vandalism” over its Schools Bill. She claimed the reforms undermine two decades of cross-party consensus and warned they threaten academy freedoms which she says helped raise standards in reading and maths.

00:04school system through the Schools Bill which is currently going through the
00:07House of Commons. This undermines two decades of consensus on what improves
00:12schools, a consensus which has led to us having in England children being the best
00:17at reading and maths in the Western world. So where it comes to their school
00:21reforms what they need to do is abandon them, enable academies to have the
00:26freedoms which have led to us soaring up international league tables.
