00:48Hello, welcome to From the South. I am Irma Shelton from the Telesura Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:54We begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:09Venezuela holds a public consultation on the draft of the Red Cross bill.
01:15On Saturday, the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez,
01:19led the meeting with Red Cross delegations and members of the executive to discuss the project's proposals.
01:28The President of the Venezuelan Red Cross, José Manuel Farias, emphasized that the measure
01:33advocates for the protection of humanitarian personnel serving in the territory.
01:38For his part, Deputy Jorge Rodriguez, emphasized that next Tuesday, February 24, the Legislative Assembly
01:47will meet to approve the project that will protect the life of the Venezuelan people.
02:01Over 300 proposals have been made for the drafting of the Venezuelan Red Cross Act.
02:07Over 300 proposals. Nelson, that includes the 8 or 10 proposals that you made.
02:13All those were included in the bill. And to be clear, that bill will pass.
02:19I mean, we will not leave the premises of the National Assembly until the bill is passed next Tuesday, February
02:2624.
02:30In this context, the United Nations Development Program revealed that at least 84.6% of Venezuelans
02:40prefer dialogue and diplomacy over confrontation in the country.
02:44The organization, through a survey, documented that 98.8% of those consulted said they felt proud
02:54to be Venezuelan. At the same time, 64.1% of them emphasized their desire to share a common destiny
03:04with their compatriots, regardless of their ideology, in order to maintain peace and unity in the country.
03:12The study indicates that 86.3% of citizens believe that dialogue does not mean surrendering but rather
03:22seeking solutions. While 79.9% understand that agreements involve efforts and commitments for the
03:32collective welfare. The poll affirms that 72.6% of Venezuelans disagree with the use of
03:41violence to achieve change. And 44.4% believe that social media does not reflect their reality.
03:52These results demonstrate the majority's desire to consolidate stability and strengthen spaces for
03:59dialogue in the country.
04:06Venezuela categorically rejects the renewal of the so-called national emergency regarding the country
04:14extend on February 18, 2026 by the government of the United States in continuation of the executive
04:23duty for their 13,692 to sign it on March 8 of 2015 by the then president Barack Obama. The
04:34statement denounced
04:36that from its origin, this instrument was conceived without objective basis or real justification on their arguments far from the
04:48government of the track and international law, an international law describing Venezuela as an unusual and extraordinary threat.
04:5511 years later, reality confirms what the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has consistently maintained.
05:04Our country poses no threat to the people or government of the United States, nor to any nation in the
05:13world.
05:14The continuation of these measures, which was introduced under political premises that do not correspond to reality,
05:23only contributes to maintaining narratives of confrontation that do not reflect the true historical, cultural, and human ties
05:32that should prevail between the Venezuelan and U.S. peoples.
05:38The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela urges the government of the United States to assume a constructive and respectful role
05:47in conducting its international relations aband unilateral approaches and move toward a stage of mutual respect
05:57from a dialogue based on sovereignty, non-interference, and the shared benefit of our nations.
06:05It is signed in Caracas February 21 of 2026.
06:25On Friday, the Doris Maria Morales Association of Nicaragua voiced its support for the Cuban people
06:34and denounced the U.S. government's hostile blockade policy against Cuba, which has been in place for over six decades.
06:43The Cuban ambassador to Nicaragua, Liliana Fonseca, and members of the state mission attended the event.
06:50They emphasized that the blockade is a cruel punishment that hinders access to medicine, food,
06:58and essential resources for millions of Cubans and essential resources for millions of Cubans
07:02and seeks to break the will of the people who have shown the world their ability to resist with dignity.
07:09The association stressed that supporting Cuba is a deep human and historical commitment
07:16as both people value freedom, sovereignty, and dignity.
07:27Meanwhile, during National Defense Days, Cuba mobilized its territorial defense forces
07:34in an effort to consolidate the strategic doctrine of the war of the entire population.
07:41The main objective of the maneuvers was to improve the response capacity of the management and command bodies
07:48in the event of a potential external threat or attack.
07:53Cuban President Miguel DĂaz-Canel BermĂşdez, in his capacity as head of the National Defense Council,
08:00attended a demonstration exercise conducted by forces of the Ministry of the Interior,
08:06where he met with cadets from the Eliseo Reyes Higher Institute and observed combat preparation tactics.
08:14With this event, the Cuban government reaffirmed its position of permanent preparedness
08:21to safeguard the sovereignty and integrity of the national territory.
08:36The Cuban medicine ever-proved use for healing the diabetic foot ulcers
08:42has benefited about 500,000 patients in at least 30 countries.
08:50Given the effectiveness of the medication, more than 70% of those treated were able to avoid amputations.
08:59In the United States alone, there are nearly 160,000 amputations per year
09:06in patients with diabetic foot ulcers.
09:09The economy blockade imposed by Washington prevents thousands of Americans from accessing this treatment
09:18and avoiding amputations, which, in the worst cases, can lead to death.
09:30And now we have a short break coming.

10:05into the Assad Strip and the West Bank.
10:07The decision was made by a ministerial committee that requires humanitarian organizations
10:14to re-register on their street security protocols,
10:18including to meet in detail personal information on all their Palestinian staffers,
10:25subjecting them to direct scrutiny.
10:28The Israeli government has revoked registration for 37 international institutions operating in
10:36the Palestinian territory.
10:38On their part, the concerned organizations have denounced this action,
10:43emphasizing that they provide assistance to thousands of people

11:05following the widespread proliferation of fleas in tents in the south of the Gaza Strip.
11:11The lack of personal foreign set control and the deterioration of living conditions

12:06The United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, warned that the figure does not reflect
12:12the true crisis facing Palestinian children
12:15and is working on a family reunification program to provide psychological support.
12:22In this scenario, family members care for their children,
12:27although many are forced to take on other responsibilities
12:31to survive in displaced persons centers.
12:34International organizations describe the psychological after-effects
12:41as a stolen childhood and call for urgent actions.
12:54In Palestine, thousands of worshipers gather at the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron
13:02to perform the first mayor prayers of the month of Ramadan
13:06amid high tension and street Israeli restrictions.
13:11Zionist soldiers allow access through only one point from early morning on,
13:17and the street control measures cause critical congestion,
13:21making it difficult for ambulances to pass.
13:24The stranded citizens were forced to pray in the nearby streets
13:29and in the market area of the old city under a heavy military presence.
13:36Local leaders described the blockade as a violation of the right to freedom of worship
13:42on a day of utmost spiritual importance.
13:51Charities organize communal breakfast in Palestine during the months of Ramadan
13:58amidst the resistance of and love of life.

14:13Participants affirm that despite the siege and destruction that event seeks
14:19to alleviate the suffering of children and keep the spirit of solidarity alive,
14:25this is a message of resistance and a celebration of life in face of false challenges.

15:51On the visit, India and Brazil discuss issues relating to supply chain security and access to critical minerals and rare
16:00earth elements.
16:02The meeting comes as part of a joint effort by both powers to diversify global supply chains and reduce dependence
16:11on specific suppliers for high-tech industry.
16:15Brazil has the world's second largest reserve of rare earth elements, which are key in a strategic industry like electric
16:24vehicles, solar panels, smartphones, aircraft engines, and guidance systems.
16:37In Japan, people took to the streets to demand the permanent shutdown of the Iwasaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant.
16:46The protest arose after the budget restart of reactor No. 6 by the Japanese company, Tecco.
16:54After being activated on January 21, the reactor had to be immediately shut down due to the control rod failures.
17:03Among the main concerns are the plant's location on a geological fault zone and the operator's safety record.
17:12The demonstration underscores the deep moonstrapped sector of Japanese society has stored a return of large-scale nuclear power.
17:45In China, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced record figures in cultural and tourist consumption.
17:52After the conclusion of the special campaign for the Spring Festival, the institutional deployment allowed millions of citizens to participate
18:03in the events ranging from traditional temple fairs to high-tech shows.
18:09Preliminary data indicates a significant increase in inter-provincial mobility to key cultural destinations and a robust inflow of green

19:57For the beneficiaries, it is an opportunity to receive a decent meal in a community setting.
20:04Ramadan, the nine months of the Islamic calendar, is one of the holiest months for Muslims.
20:12Fasting from dawn to dawn is mandatory according to one of the five pillars of Islam.
20:27Latin music and salsa are in mourning.
20:31Legendary trombone player, singer, and producer Willie Calan dies at 75 after a battle with respiratory problems.
20:41Known as the bad guy from the Bronx, Kalan revolutionized Latin music from the streets of New York, transforming the
20:51trombone into a weapon of aggressive neighborhood sound.
20:55His legacy is immense, first as a visionary of the Lafania, a salsa and Caribbean music group.
21:04He forged immortal dudes with Hector Lavoy and then with Ruben Blades, with whom he created Siembra, one of the
21:14most important albums in the history of salsa.
21:17But his voice and his message will live forever and anthems that transcending generations.
