00:00Number one seed. Very thrilling season. Take me through what's made it special.
00:04I think the biggest turning point was John getting hurt. He was a little starting point guard for three years.
00:11And almost it was like a blessing in disguise because before that we had a bad loss to Elmont.
00:16People were kind of relying on John handling the ball, not used to ball pressure, not used to score on
00:20their own.
00:20When he got hurt, it took us a couple games to adjust, but I think it made us honestly ten
00:25times better.
00:26Can you tell us about the nature of your injury that happened midway through the season?
00:30I broke my wrist with pistachios on, and I had a surgery. That's really it. I mean, I'm proud of
00:37you back foot, though.
00:39With John gone, we all learned how to work together much more, and by doing that, we were able to
00:45get better each day and push each other and practice even more,
00:48which made us even better. Now we're number one seed, so we're looking to have a good run in the
00:53playoffs.
00:54They could win it all without me, too.
00:55It took a lot to Elmont in conference play, and it kind of just, something clicked with us, and we
00:59were like, I just can't, like, happen again.
01:01And we kind of just got on top of it, pushed everyone harder on practice, and looked to get better.
01:07How did your team do in the playoffs last season?
01:09We didn't do too well. I think we got bounced out in quarterfinals for some tough balls in the team.
01:16So, I mean, we're kind of looking for revenge this year, looking to go all the way, hopefully make it
01:20to States this year with the team we have.
01:21It's just such a great group of girls, especially my senior year. I wouldn't want to do it with anyone
01:26else.
01:27I think there was definitely also a lot of doubt going into this season with just, like, all the factors
01:31that played into this season,
01:32and I think we definitely, like, all stepped up. Like, the whole team came together and really proved that, like,
01:38we were really deserving of how far we've gotten
01:40and, like, proved that we were capable of getting here.
01:42We only had six returning, so it was definitely a new experience for all these girls that really stepped up,
01:49and we're so proud of them.
01:50Our non-league season was definitely, like, a really bumpy road, like, getting out all the jitters and the, like,
02:00pre-season, like, angst.
02:02I think once we started in our conference, we started winning. We started building that confidence, that chemistry, not only
02:09off the court, but on the court.
02:10I think it was just such an, like, electric feeling that, like, flowed through the entire team, and, like, we
02:16all started feeding off of each other to just, like, keep that winning momentum.
02:20I think it's a huge accomplishment, especially since everyone was, like, oh, like, no one's trying out. You guys have
02:25no one. Like, you're not going to, like, be good.
02:28But we really proved everyone wrong, and we think that it's a good sport.
02:31I think it's also a huge statement for this program. I know there's a lot of girls in middle school
02:37currently that want to play on the scene next year, so they're coming up to something special.
02:41The boys are also having a fantastic season, too. Is there a little bit of shared synergy between the two
02:46teams?
02:47I think when we see how successful the boys are, they see how successful we are, like, it's that same,
02:52like, electric feeling that flows, like, we feed off of each other.
02:56Like, we both want to be successful. We want them to be successful. They want us to be successful.
03:00So I think that just, like, the Southside basketball program as a whole, girls and boys, are just, like, cheering
03:06each other on, and, like, them winning feeds into us.
03:10Us winning feeds into them and really just pulls us all together.
03:17We'll see you next time.
