00:44It's critical that scientists find other means of support right now.

00:52There are private donors at universities like the university I'm at, the University of Pennsylvania,
00:58that can help fill those gaps so that scientists can continue to do research in this area.
01:03Academic institutions can provide support for scientists to continue to do work in this area.
01:09We hopefully will restore the rightful role of science funding in our government in a few years
01:15when there will be a new administration.
01:17Doomism, this idea that it's too late to do anything about the climate crisis.
01:21But it's critical that we not fall victim to doomism and despair because the bad actors,
01:28the fossil fuel interests, the polluters, want us to give up.
01:31And they would happily fan the flames of doomism because it leads us down a path of disengagement.
01:36And so we have to recognize that there is urgency in acting on the climate crisis.
01:41But as I like to say, there's agency.
01:43We still have the ability to act in a way that will avert the worst consequences of climate change.
