00:00An assembly of global political and tech leaders in New Delhi Thursday as India hosts the annual
00:06AI Impact Summit. This year's is the fourth installment and the first to be held in a
00:12developing country. Host Prime Minister Narendra Modi listened on as UN Chief Antonio Guterres
00:18called for a global fund to build out AI capacity in the global south.
00:22The future of AI cannot be decided by a handful of countries or left to the whims of a few
00:30billionaires. The UN's $3 billion funding goal is exceptionally modest by the standards of the
00:38industry. India alone is expecting more than $200 billion to be invested there over the next two
00:44years. Google says it's planning to establish a full-stack AI hub on the country's east coast
00:50and install new undersea data cables connecting India to multiple other countries as part of
00:55the company's ongoing $15 billion investment there. Industry leader OpenAI, home of ChatGPT,
01:03says it's partnering with India's largest corporate conglomerate, Tata, to build new AI data center
01:09infrastructure that could be scaled up to one gigawatt of electric power capacity.
01:14Regulation remains a thorny issue for the rapidly advancing technology. French President Emmanuel
01:20Macron telling the summit he's committed to ensuring oversight while still fostering innovation.
01:26We believe in core shared values, science, rule of law, global balance, efficient multilateralism,
01:36innovation for the benefit of all. One tech leader notably absent from Thursday's summit,
01:43Bill Gates. The Microsoft founder cancelled his planned speech after being named in multiple
01:48compromising documents among the Jeffrey Epstein files.
