00:00The Kuala Lumpur City Hall has denied being heavy-handed in removing a stall set up yesterday
00:06by the multiracial reverted Muslims group at Jalan Bukit Bintang outside the Yayasan
00:11Selangor building.
00:12DBKL said the tent's placement on a pedestrian walkway violated regulations as public spaces
00:18must remain unobstructed to ensure safety.
00:21In a statement, it said all enforcement actions were carried out professionally, prudently
00:26and in strict compliance with the law, adding that such measures are necessary to safeguard
00:30public safety and maintain urban order.
00:33Earlier today, past youth had criticized DBKL's action over a street.wap program organized
00:39by MRM by shutting down the stall and seizing religious materials.
00:43Chairman of the wing's Islamic Outreach and Advocacy Committee, Sukri Omar, said that DBKL
00:49sending 12 officers to shut down the stall when only one volunteer was present raised serious
00:54questions about the enforcement action taken and how unreasonable it was.
00:59DBKL explained that its officers visited the stall's location to obtain clarification from
01:04the parties involved, but after waiting for more than 30 minutes, no representative from
01:08the relevant party came forward to provide any explanation or to cooperate with DBKL officers.
