00:27Welcome to the show!
00:28Lovely to see you all!
00:30We're all in a good mood. Lots of...
00:32There's lots of great TV on, isn't it?
00:34You know, we just say goodbye to the traitors,
00:35and now The Apprentice is back!
00:37And I don't know if you're watching this series,
00:39but this time, they sent the candidates to Hong Kong.
00:43What must that be like?
00:44Going to China, knowing that any week you could be fired.
00:50Who knows?
00:51We've got a great lineup for you tonight, singing for us later.
00:54Look over there, it's Jessie Ware!
00:57Yes!
00:59She'll be reporting her new single,
01:01I Could Get Used To This!
01:03But first, on my sofa tonight.
01:05For 25 years, this Liverpool comic has made us laugh,
01:08and continues to play to sold-out arenas around the world.
01:11Now, his life story has inspired a Hollywood movie.
01:14Is this thing on?
01:15It's our good friend, Mr. John Bishop!
01:20There he is!
01:28This actress has stolen the show in cult classics like Mean Girls, The Notebook, and About Time,
01:34and starred in the Oscar-winning drama Spotlight.
01:36Now she's fighting for survival in Sam Raimi's grisly comedy, Send Help.
01:41It is Rachel McAdams!
01:45Yay!
01:48Hello!
01:49Hello!
01:50Hi, Sue!
01:51Very nice!
01:52Lovely to see you!
01:53Thank you!
01:57And we've got two stars in the new heist thriller, Crime 101.
02:01He's the Aussie megastar of Marvel's Thor, Rush, and the hit extraction films.
02:08And she is the Oscar-winning star of Monstrous Ball, Die Another Day, and the X-Men films.
02:13Please welcome Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry!
02:18Yay!
02:20Hello!
02:21Nice to see you!
02:22Yes!
02:23Welcome to the show!
02:24Hello!
02:25Welcome to the show!
02:26Hello!
02:26Welcome to the show!
02:27Have a seat!
02:29Yay!
02:32Oh!
02:34OK, good.
02:34They've greeted each other.
02:36You're all thinking we picked a good week.
02:39Welcome all.
02:40Lovely to see you.
02:41So welcome back to Chris and John.
02:43Now, Halle, you were on the show but not on the sofa.
02:45No, only over Zoom.
02:47Yes, in the bad old days.
02:49In the bad old days.
02:50Yes.
02:50And it's a first-time welcome to Rachel in any form.
02:54Hello!
02:54Hi!
02:55Thank you!
02:56Nice to be here.
02:57This is a nice thing.
02:58Chris, you are particularly fond of one of Rachel's films.
03:02My favourite film, this is a big moment for me, is Wedding Crushes.
03:06Really?
03:07I have seen that film countless times.
03:10I'd say more than a hundred.
03:12Really?
03:13It's whether it's the...
03:17If I'm lonely on a press tour, like last night, I'll switch it on.
03:21If I'm hungover on a Sunday, it's a feel-good movie.
03:25Christmas Eve, the kids, it's family, friends.
03:27I know most of the dialogue in every scene and Inside Out.
03:32I love it.
03:32It's a brilliant film.
03:33Oh, my God.
03:34I have to jump in on this, because I told her backstage I wanted to tell this to her.
03:38I share your love of Rachel McAdams.
03:41Don't we all?
03:41Yes.
03:43Wait.
03:45The Notebook is my...
03:48When I met my new guy, Van, the first time we got together, I said,
03:53we have to watch The Notebook, because if I don't have a love like this,
03:57and if you don't make me feel like her, this is not happening.
04:01Wow.
04:02And I was like, and if I'm not saying, it ain't over, and if I'm not jumping around you,
04:07then this is not going to work.
04:09That is a high fictional bar.
04:12It's my go-to.
04:13When I want to cry, and when I want to feel good, and when I want to feel like I
04:17believe in love,
04:19like, that's my movie.
04:20Oh, my God.
04:21I just did the same thing too.
04:22I love you, Van.
04:22In that movie so much.
04:25And I've been waiting to tell you that.
04:26Oh, my God.
04:27And now I get you.
04:28Tell her that.
04:29Well, my Rachel McAdams.
04:31I love me, girls.
04:37Whenever I want to be a bitch, I watch it.
04:44Very good.
04:46And weirdly, Halle Berry, I'm sure you're going to bond with John,
04:51because you have Liverpudlian roots.
04:55I know.
04:55You're a family from Liverpool.
04:56Yes, I just told him that backstage, he thought,
04:58I thought that was not the conversation we were going to be having.
05:02I know.
05:02Can you believe that?
05:03I know.
05:04We could in some way be related.
05:06I said to her, it's good, because at least somebody on the couch
05:08can understand me tonight.
05:10So, who was it?
05:11It was your mum?
05:12My mum's side of the family.
05:13So, did she sound like John Bishop?
05:14No.
05:15LAUGHTER
05:17Her family left a little too early, but that is the origin of my roots.
05:21OK.
05:22Have you been to Liverpool?
05:23No.
05:24It's not really working, this.
05:27When she said that to me, she said, my mum's from Liverpool.
05:30I said, oh, my God, we'll find a connection.
05:32I said, what part of Liverpool?
05:33She went, I don't know.
05:35LAUGHTER
05:36That's where we're from.
05:37Yeah, but that's a lovely thing.
05:38And I'm very proud of that.
05:39Yeah.
05:40I'm very proud to have you.
05:41Yes.
05:44Listen, we've got lots to talk about tonight, but let's start with Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry,
05:48who bring us Crime 101.
05:50It is in cinemas from the 13th of February.
05:52And to get us in the mood, check this out.
05:57Take a deep breath in.
06:02And exhale.
06:08What do you see?
06:11What do you feel?
06:14Feel this moment?
06:19I wouldn't die for any insurance company.
06:21Get in.
06:21There's water in the trunk.
06:23Could have been certain.
06:24Could have been a G.
06:25He hits jewels, cash, and high-value items.
06:28He knows exactly what to transport and when.
06:31There's no DNA.
06:32He's in and out in seconds.
06:35Your guy's untraceable.
06:37I need that.
06:38I need that.
06:38I need that.
06:38I came here to make you a business proposition.
06:41Worked to the same company for 11 years.
06:43You're a VP when you should be a partner.
06:45Those high-value items your company insures might make them disappear.
06:50Start by handing me your phone.
06:51So you're a thief.
06:55Life's too short to drive boring cars, right?
06:57If you see her with me, she's taken.
06:59Ooh.
07:04So this is one of those great movies with an ensemble cast,
07:08multiple kind of stories that all come together.
07:10So tell us who you both play and how your stories connect.
07:15Would you like to go first?
07:16I play a high-value jewellery thief.
07:21He's meticulous about how he plans these heists.
07:24He has a very strict code of conduct and how he operates.
07:28And there's a sort of moral ambiguity in the world he exists in.
07:32He's obviously on the wrong side of the law on one hand,
07:34but he's still a good human at heart.
07:37And Mark Ruffalo's in the film as well.
07:40And the three of our stories are basically on a collision course
07:44into a pretty dramatic, climactic finale.
07:48But it's a throwback to the 70s, 80s, 90s heist films
07:52I think we all love with the contemporary feel.
07:55Yeah.
07:55There's complex characters, there's a deep level of emotion,
07:58but it's entertaining and it's sleek and sexy
08:01and visually pretty stunning.
08:03It is absolutely gorgeous.
08:04You are the thief, Mark Ruffalo the detective.
08:07So Hallie, who are you?
08:08Yeah, I am a high-value insurance agent working,
08:14you know, with these insurance companies that, you know,
08:16appraise high-value assets and, you know, very wealthy people.
08:20And she has worked her whole life.
08:23What Chris and what our characters share in common is
08:25we both grew up with meager means
08:27and we both have worked really hard to get where we are.
08:31And my character, of course, as many women as we age up,
08:35our businesses often age us out and tell us we're too old
08:39and we're no longer value.
08:41And my character decides that she's not going to accept that.
08:47She meets Davis, Chris's character,
08:50and she's facing a moral dilemma.
08:53What will she do?
08:55Will she stay on the right side of right
08:57or go to the right side of wrong?
09:01And it is interesting because it's a thing that links
09:03all those three characters.
09:04Yeah, all of us.
09:04It's sort of like sliding doors.
09:06We all intersect with each other at certain times
09:08throughout the movie
09:09and we find out that we have a lot more in common
09:12than you would think that we would have.
09:13Yeah.
09:14And it's interesting, you know,
09:15you've made so many movies over the years
09:16and I heard you in an interview saying that
09:17that actually this is one of your happiest working experiences.
09:20Oh, this was amazing.
09:21And, you know, when you've done it 30 years,
09:24when you say this has been one of my all-time best,
09:26that's really saying something.
09:27These guys, Chris, Mark, Bart, Barry, all of them,
09:31I mean, my feet did not hit the ground.
09:34And I say that because you've heard people talk
09:37about the stories of all the horror things
09:38that have gone wrong in our industry.
09:40Not the case here.
09:41Like, I have never felt more seen, respected, cared for,
09:45stood up for, protected than I did on this movie
09:48with all of these men.
09:49It was, I hope...
09:50We're going to do Crime 103.
09:54Mark, Chris, and I are going to do Crime 103.
09:58And, look, I knew you probably enjoyed making this movie, Chris,
10:01because you like driving and there's a lot of driving.
10:03A lot of driving, yeah.
10:04Yeah. And you do it.
10:05I do, yeah.
10:06I was very lucky in this film.
10:07And, I mean, I shot Rush maybe 15 years ago,
10:10a Formula One film where I did a lot of training then.
10:12I grew up in Australia, lived in the outback and farms
10:16and a lot of paddock bombs, sort of rusted old cars
10:18that would demolish and derby into each other
10:20and, you know, mostly illegal sort of activity.
10:24But you kind of get comfortable behind the wheel
10:26and, um, in this film I adjusted like a kid in a candy store.
10:30It's like I'm going to go top speed,
10:32weave in and out of traffic, handbrake, turn, do this
10:34and no one's going to pull me over and give me a speeding ticket.
10:37Wow.
10:37But it has a sort of grit and an authenticity to it.
10:39And you can't, you can try and do that on green screen
10:42and it doesn't have the same feel, you know?
10:44Because how do you...
10:45Were you jealous? Because...
10:46So jealous. I got to do none of that.
10:48I love stunts. I love to get in there.
10:51And I got to do none of that.
10:53Did you get to do some insurance research?
10:57High risk, high value insurance research.
10:59Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Powerpoint presentations.
11:02But actually, you do love action and stunts and things.
11:06When did you...
11:06Because it's one thing loving...
11:07How do you discover you're loving it?
11:08What was the movie where you kind of went,
11:10ooh, I'm really good at this?
11:11Well, I was a gymnast as a kid, so...
11:13And I know you were an ice skater, so it was another thing.
11:15Yes.
11:15I had dreams of being, like, those...
11:20Black Nadia Comaneci, you know?
11:22Like, that was my dream.
11:24So when I did Catwoman,
11:26that was the first time I did all of my own stunts.
11:29And I tried to make my Catwoman really like a...
11:32Like a cat.
11:33And so I was into all the...
11:35I learned capoeira for that movie
11:36and I really got into doing all of those stunts myself.
11:39And so that's when my love of...
11:40And I realized that also,
11:42when a performer can do all of their own stunts,
11:44that frees up the director to put the camera anywhere
11:47and shoot from any angle
11:48because you don't have to sort of accommodate a double.
11:53You know?
11:53Yeah.
11:53You can sort of give them a lot more to work with.
11:55And that's when I realized I would try to lean into
11:57doing all of my own stunts.
11:59But you have to know what you're doing.
12:01I did Doctor Who.
12:04And...
12:05LAUGHTER
12:07I thought I'd bring it back to the UK.
12:10You know what I mean?
12:14I did Doctor Who and there was...
12:15So Doctor Who's like a scientific series over here
12:20where there's a time machine that flies through space.
12:23And the first day they said,
12:25your character is going through space and it crashes
12:28so you've got to fall on the floor.
12:29They said, do you want a mat?
12:31I said, no, don't worry about it.
12:32So I said...
12:33And it just said, fall on the floor.
12:35And they said, do you want a stunt double?
12:36I said, don't worry about it.
12:37So I literally just threw myself on the floor.
12:40BANG!
12:41And I went, OK, let's do it again.
12:42I went, what?
12:43LAUGHTER
12:44He said, you've got to do that about 15 times.
12:46I thought you'd fuck off, get him in.
12:52And it's interesting, you mentioned Catwoman there
12:54and Catwoman's one of those films that, you know,
12:57it's no secret at the time,
12:59its reception was a little rocky,
13:00but since then it's taken on a kind of life of its own, hasn't it?
13:03It really has.
13:04It's been amazing to see that the younger genera...
13:06Like, they get the joke.
13:08And it does have a life of...
13:10It's the film that, I think, out of all my movies,
13:13believe it or not, people walk up to me
13:15and they're like...
13:20And I'm like, OK, Catwoman?
13:22Or, you know, they say, you're a Catwoman!
13:25So people really...
13:26Do you purr back?
13:28I do.
13:29And I just...
13:31That'd be awesome.
13:32Say, that's your experience with Halle Berry.
13:34She purred at me.
13:38You've had it now.
13:41Rachel, in terms of, like, stunts and things,
13:43you do have an adventurous side,
13:45because what did you...
13:46You did cycling in Australia or something, didn't you?
13:48Yeah, I did.
13:49I thought, this sounds like a great idea,
13:51I'll cycle around...
13:52Do you know Magnetic Island?
13:53Yeah.
13:54Oh, yeah, yeah.
13:54I know Magnetic Island, yeah.
13:55You do?
13:56Yeah, I've been there as well, yeah.
13:57Yeah, because you're a bike guy.
13:58Yeah, I'm a guy.
14:01Um, yeah, I was...
14:03You know, I was travelling, I...
14:05The first time I backpacked by myself,
14:07I wanted to go to Australia,
14:08a little Canadian girl,
14:09I thought, I'll just go as far as I possibly can.
14:12My parents were like,
14:13sure, okay.
14:14So I went to Australia and...
14:16How old were you?
14:17I was 19.
14:18What?
14:19That's big.
14:21Yeah.
14:21You know what I mean?
14:22No, it is.
14:23That's a big thing to go backpacking by yourself to Australia.
14:26Yeah, big, dumb...
14:28But, uh, it was great, it was great.
14:30But yes, I wound up, um, with, you know,
14:34a random guy from London.
14:37Uh...
14:37Biking.
14:38Biking.
14:40Yeah, that's what we call it in England.
14:45Strictly biking.
14:46Um, he had his bike, I had my bike,
14:48we stayed to our bikes.
14:50Bikes.
14:51Yes, um, yes.
14:52And, uh, yeah, and I was dead weight.
14:55He was so fit and, um,
14:57and he was trying to be really patient,
14:59but I was hallucinating by the end.
15:02I was praying to God.
15:03There was no civilisation.
15:06There was no people.
15:07There were no restaurants.
15:08Chris lives there.
15:10He lives there.
15:13LAUGHTER
15:15There's a couple of people.
15:18The Australian tourism board are loving this show.
15:21Nothing!
15:22Nothing!
15:24There's one guy on a bike.
15:26Looking for Rachel.
15:28LAUGHTER
15:30Talking about travelling round Australia,
15:33you did this such a lovely film, Chris.
15:35The film where you're motorcycling round Australia
15:38with your dad.
15:40Tell us about that journey.
15:41Yeah, so, um,
15:42it was initially part of the Limitless series
15:45and then it became its own thing
15:48and so we separated and it was an individual episode.
15:51But, um, my dad was, uh, diagnosed with, uh, Alzheimer's
15:55a few years ago.
15:57And the, just, the director came to me and said,
16:01look, I know it's a very sensitive subject
16:02and, um, we have this idea where there's this thing called
16:07reminiscence therapy where we, basically, the hippocampus,
16:11the part of the brain that Alzheimer's dementia is attacking.
16:13You stimulate via old memories
16:16and, and, and reignite neural pathways and so on, potentially, um,
16:20and it's somewhat experimental, but they're getting, you know,
16:23there's a lot of positive results.
16:24Yeah.
16:25And so we had this idea about going back to the family home we lived in
16:29and doing a road trip up to Northern Territory.
16:32Um, we lived in a Aboriginal community four and a half hours
16:35outside of, uh, Catherine in, in Arnhem Land.
16:39And, um, where he was a bull catcher.
16:41This is 30 something years ago.
16:43So we're going to do this motorbike road trip.
16:45And, and I was very apprehensive about it.
16:47I didn't want to sort of exploit anything he was going through
16:50for the sake of sort of drama and entertainment and so on.
16:53Yeah, yeah, yeah.
16:54But he said, man, a deep integrity and, and, and humility.
16:58And, and I said to him, look, do you have any interest?
17:00And he said, oh yeah, that sounds like a lot of fun.
17:02And look, maybe, you know, me sharing my story might help someone else.
17:06And so we, um, embarked on this, this, this road trip.
17:10And we started in, in Melbourne where we lived.
17:13And a friend of ours bought the house we lived in 30 something, 40.
17:19Well, 30, we, when I was born in Melbourne,
17:21lived in the house when I was probably six till 18.
17:25So 20 something years ago, he bought the house.
17:28And he had a series of photographs that he had taken of the house when he bought it.
17:34And so the art department said to him, can we have those photos?
17:37And they redress the entire house.
17:40This is amazing.
17:41According to those photographs.
17:44And then we went to the house and walked in and it was like stepping back in time.
17:50Oh my God.
17:50That, I mean, it's just, it gives you chills, doesn't it?
17:54Yeah.
17:54It was remarkable.
17:55And, and I, it was this overwhelming nostalgia.
18:00This ginormous reminder of the passage of time, emotional, because of the memories we had there.
18:08And now the memories we weren't going to have, or the memories that were potentially disappearing.
18:13And my dad walked in and he's like, I said, you know, I'm trying to, you know, there's cameras on
18:18us.
18:18And what do you think?
18:18And he goes, oh, it's great.
18:19It's great.
18:20I said, how do you feel?
18:22He goes, I don't know about all the theatrics, mate.
18:24You know?
18:25All the cameras and stuff.
18:27I said, yeah, we're doing a documentary.
18:28And he goes, anyway, and he kept saying, where's your mum?
18:31She'd love this.
18:32And I said, well, she's not in the episode.
18:34And she goes, oh, okay.
18:35And then a minute later, he's like, where's your mum?
18:37What's she doing?
18:37And I said, well, dad, she's not, she's, she's here, but she's not, it's just us.
18:41And, and he kept asking and it was so beautiful.
18:44He wanted to share it with her.
18:46And then eventually they were like, just, just bring her up.
18:47And so she came into the house for her really hit home because it was a real reminder of
18:54the sort of memories we'd had and what we're missing.
18:56And then he, you saw him relax, you know, that was his sort of anchor.
19:01And as things are sort of being taken away and disappearing, and it was quite beautiful
19:06and, and, and profound and heartbreaking.
19:09And, and I've had people say to me, who've seen the episode who are suffering with dementia
19:14or Alzheimer's say, I wish my kids could see this or my family members, because people
19:19dance around the issue.
19:21No one comes and says, what are you afraid of?
19:23How are you feeling?
19:24Because they, they, it's too hard to confront.
19:27So they suffer in silence.
19:28And so I was asking questions that to, to my father and yes, on camera, but the questions
19:35I probably wouldn't have been brave enough to ask and those things.
19:39And how's he feeling?
19:40Yeah.
19:40And it was, I asked him in the doc, I said, you know, what are you afraid of?
19:45And he said, I just don't want to be a burden.
19:47You know, and it said, it said so much to me about him and not that I could have any
19:52more respect for my father, but the fact that his main concern was not being a burden to
19:58those around him more so than I'm losing my memories and my time is expiring, this was
20:02beautiful.
20:03But the episode became about connection and about love and family and what's important,
20:08which is a shared moment.
20:09There's that lovely thing of sharing memories.
20:11Yeah.
20:12And in the, in the midst of all, all of that, there's a, there's a very sweet, but funny
20:16moment where you and your mom and dad are in that for original house and you are watching,
20:23particularly this is the first film you ever made.
20:25Yeah.
20:26It should have been the first and last film I ever made.
20:30We created this ridiculous sort of parody of Steve Owen, the crocodile hunter.
20:35Well, we've got that clip.
20:36I know you.
20:36This is the clip of the family.
20:38So please enjoy Chris Hemsworth's first ever film performance in Crocodile Hunter.
20:44Can we see it?
20:45Yeah, you can pop it on.
20:48The crocodile hunter.
20:50Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
20:53You almost fell crocodile, correct?
20:56How are you going, folks?
20:57We've got a real bloody river in store for you today.
21:00Oh, this is, this is gold.
21:02We're going to be chasing the Siberian tiger Australian fox.
21:06It's going to be bloody unreal.
21:09Let's go have a look-see.
21:12Now, I've got myself a little son of a horse.
21:15That was my hat.
21:16They're riding her.
21:18Here, come here.
21:19Have a little secret.
21:20That's what I'm talking about.
21:21Deadly as, he's digging a hole.
21:24Remember, when he's not looking, over here, over here, over here.
21:28I've got him.
21:30That guy wasn't hurt in the making of his film.
21:33You get him in the full Nelson, like so, and you've got to get him to submit.
21:36Now, submit him.
21:37Look at the dog.
21:38Deadly.
21:41Next week, we'll be chasing the Australian grasshopper.
21:43Can't wait.
21:45Seized in.
21:55That was your first film.
21:57Everyone can enjoy your latest film.
22:00Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry in Cry 101 from the 13th of February.
22:05Very good.
22:07They're shorts.
22:09Tight pair of shorts.
22:11Oh, my God.
22:12He's very Australian about that.
22:14Yeah.
22:15They have a tight pair of shorts.
22:16That's very cool.
22:19Next up, Rachel McAdams brings us a brilliant movie from Evil Dead director Sam Raimi.
22:24It's called Send Help.
22:26It opens in cinemas on the 5th of February.
22:29So, Rachel, you play Linda Little.
22:32She's fantastic.
22:32Tell us about Linda Little.
22:34Who is she?
22:35What's she up to?
22:36Well, Linda is a real worker bee.
22:39She's been at her company for seven years and she can do everybody's job with her eyes closed.
22:44And she's in line for a big promotion.
22:47She's very excited.
22:48She's going to use the money to get a bigger apartment and go travelling.
22:52And then she gets passed over for the douchebag friend of the boss who's been there for six months.
23:01Oh.
23:02And it really grinds her gears.
23:04It would.
23:06And she's just about had enough, you know?
23:09Yeah.
23:09Yeah.
23:10I'd rather say, eat her asshole.
23:12Yes.
23:14Grind her gears is...
23:16It's not pissed off, you know?
23:18It's not enough.
23:19Sorry, once again, eat her asshole?
23:21Eat her asshole.
23:22Oh, okay.
23:23It really eats her asshole.
23:27Like that?
23:28Yes.
23:29Like that.
23:29Good job.
23:30I'll work on it.
23:33But tell us more, because then a big thing happens.
23:38We were allowed to know the big thing, aren't we?
23:39Oh, the rest?
23:40Well, the send help bit.
23:41Right.
23:43Um...
23:44So...
23:45You remember what happens, right?
23:48I don't know how long ago you filmed this, Rachel.
23:50It was like six months ago!
23:52Um...
23:52After you lost your asshole.
23:56Yes.
23:57Uh, yes.
23:57So, she gets invited to prove herself once again.
24:01Um, on the company trip to Bangkok, um, he...
24:05Her new boss invites her to solve a problem there, and they get on the plane, and, um,
24:11the plane goes down.
24:15That's a spoiler, though.
24:17No.
24:17No, it's really not.
24:18It's called send help.
24:19Right.
24:21I think...
24:23I think you'll...
24:25The audience will be disappointed if they don't know...
24:27They'll be like...
24:28Why does she need help?
24:30I don't know...
24:31The plane is growing.
24:34Yes, yes.
24:36And then she winds up washing up on a Thailand beach, and, um...
24:42And she thrives.
24:43And she thrives.
24:44Yeah, she does very well, because she's a fan of Survivor.
24:47She's a big fan of Survivor, and she spends a lot of her time...
24:49Her spare time...
24:50She's auditioned for Survivor countless times.
24:52Never been chosen.
24:54Wow.
24:55I know.
24:56It's more asshole eating.
24:57Yes.
25:01I've never heard this expression before.
25:03I've coined...
25:04I've coined...
25:04I've made this up.
25:05Everybody in my life...
25:08Haley, she's got scouse DNA.
25:10You know what I mean?
25:12I can find the...
25:14I can find the spare man.
25:15I can get to it.
25:17Eat your asshole.
25:19I can't wait.
25:20There's some people out there going, yeah, great.
25:24You're gonna take off.
25:25Let's do it.
25:26It's gonna take off.
25:26And listen, our clip is you and your boss, played by Dylan O'Brien.
25:31And it's you coming to terms with your new situation on the island.
25:36You can't put that kind of weight on that yet.
25:38You don't tell me what to do!
25:39How about that?
25:42You know what?
25:44You think you're so smart?
25:46Well, guess who you're talking to?
25:49CEO of a next-gen 500 company, baby.
25:51That's right.
25:53A company your father built.
25:56God rest his soul.
25:59Oh, wow.
26:01Oh, wow.
26:02You know what?
26:02You're so done.
26:04Huh?
26:04Yeah.
26:05You're so fired.
26:06Oh, am I?
26:07Yeah.
26:07Oh, no.
26:11Where are you going?
26:12Where the fuck I want to go?
26:13Making my own camp.
26:15Oh.
26:15It's not so hard.
26:16Eat some leaves and some sticks.
26:19I've seen you do it enough.
26:22Well, I wish you luck.
26:24And I'll tell you where to send my last check.
26:27Second coconut tree on the left.
26:33And obviously you weren't stranded on a desert island in real life,
26:37but as Rachel McAdams, you did face a lot of hardship.
26:40I feel there was a lot of fluid in this film for you.
26:44Mm-hm.
26:45Yeah.
26:45I mean, there's obviously water, sea, all of that.
26:47Yeah.
26:47But there's more.
26:49Yes.
26:50Yeah.
26:50A lot of blood.
26:51A lot of blood.
26:52Yeah.
26:52Which I knew.
26:53I knew that when I read it.
26:55I mean, I knew there was some blood.
26:57I didn't know quite how much...
26:59The Sam Raimi level of blood.
27:01There would be.
27:01Sam Raimi level of blood.
27:02There's really no...
27:03There you are.
27:04Oh!
27:05That is Sam Raimi.
27:07Like, he's very hands-on with the blood.
27:09Oh, he insists.
27:10Oh!
27:10It has to be him.
27:11No one else could do it.
27:13And he'll sit there for like an hour before we actually shoot it
27:17and practice.
27:19Not actually throwing blood, but like, he's getting ready...
27:22Oh, right.
27:23...to do it.
27:24The wrist action.
27:24Yes.
27:25This is a clip.
27:26Just clip that up.
27:28Clip that up.
27:29Put it on the internet to everyone who watch this show.
27:31He's just getting ready.
27:36I'm just walking into all of it tonight.
27:38Oh, my God.
27:40Um, yes.
27:41But he's...
27:41No, he's a real team player.
27:45We all saw it.
27:46We all saw it.
27:48I mean, this is...
27:49Because when you put that picture up, this shows what acting really is.
27:53Can you see that picture?
27:54And again, look.
27:55There's all these people around you.
27:57There's a false head of a boar.
27:59Probably being held by a runner somewhere.
28:02He's throwing stuff at you.
28:03And, you know, you've trained for this.
28:07I did.
28:08I chose this life.
28:11It's not easy.
28:12And here's the thing, Rachel.
28:14You, Jack DeGreer, but as Hallie mentioned earlier,
28:18originally, sports, that was your thing.
28:21I was sporty spice, yes.
28:23Yeah.
28:23Yeah, I loved sports.
28:25What did you do?
28:25It's a...
28:26Ice skating you were very good at.
28:28I was okay.
28:29I was okay.
28:29Is this figure skating?
28:31Yes.
28:32Oh, there you are.
28:33There I am.
28:34With my little medal around my neck.
28:36Yeah, see, that's how good you are.
28:37You won a medal.
28:38You won a medal.
28:39I recently threw away all my medals.
28:42All my badges.
28:43No.
28:44All my...
28:44Literally three days ago.
28:46Why?
28:46By mistake?
28:48No.
28:49What?
28:51I'm trying to Marie Kondo my life.
28:54You know, I'm like...
28:55My mum was like, well, what if your children...
28:57I was like, what are they going to do with my skating tests?
29:00You know?
29:01No?
29:02But the Rachel McAdams Museum.
29:03What will they put in the Rachel McAdams Museum?
29:06I know.
29:08The exhibits will be empty.
29:10They should have all her skating medals.
29:13No, no.
29:14You got a photograph there from 1954.
29:20You're my new best friends.
29:24And did you just put them in the garbage?
29:26Yes, and it did pain me, but I thanked them and let them go.
29:33Okay.
29:34Yeah.
29:34I've been studying Buddhism.
29:36Yeah.
29:37In terms of winning things, Halle Berry, wow.
29:41No, this is amazing.
29:43This is amazing.
29:44So, I think I knew that you'd been, you know, a teenage pageant kind of beauty queen.
29:50But I had no idea the amount you won.
29:53I mean, there were serious prizes.
29:55I was insane.
29:56I know.
29:56I got good stuff.
29:57No, you really did.
29:58I was in it for the loot.
30:00Yeah.
30:00Because how old were you?
30:01You were 16, 17 when you were dating?
30:03I was 17, yes.
30:04So it was Miss Teenage?
30:06Yeah, it was Miss Teen.
30:06I didn't really aspire to be a beauty pageant queen.
30:09It was my boyfriend at the time who really wanted a girlfriend who was a beauty queen.
30:15So he took my high school picture and entered it into the Miss Teen Ohio competition.
30:22Wow.
30:22And I remember one day I just got a letter in the mail and says, you are a finalist in
30:26the Miss Teen Ohio.
30:27And I was like, what?
30:27Mm-hmm.
30:28And I had no idea how it happened.
30:30And then he told me the story.
30:31So I showed up at that contest.
30:33I put on my prom dress and I showed up.
30:35And I really, literally could care less.
30:38I was just there because he wanted me to do this.
30:41And I ended up winning the damn thing.
30:45And I was like, oh, my God.
30:46But what I didn't know is when you win one, then you have to be, I was now Miss Teen
30:50Ohio.
30:51I had to go to Miss Teen America.
30:52Like, I didn't know I had to keep going.
30:54Yeah.
30:54And I went to Miss Teen America and I won there.
30:57Then I had to go to Miss Ohio.
30:58Then I won there.
30:59Then I had to go to Miss USA.
31:00Like, it kept going and going and going until I finally lost.
31:03But along the way, tell us some of the stuff you won.
31:06Oh, my God.
31:07I won a car.
31:09Yeah.
31:09A Chrysler LeBaron.
31:11Convertible, was it?
31:12Yes, convertible.
31:13White convertible is amazing.
31:14Wow.
31:15A fur coat.
31:16Like, $10,000.
31:17That was, like, $10,000.
31:20I had $10,000.
31:20Like, tax-free money.
31:22Wow.
31:23Jewelry.
31:24Diamonds.
31:25Clothes.
31:25Wardrobe.
31:26Yeah.
31:27So, so, so what happened to the pimp?
31:29Sorry, the boyfriend not pimp.
31:30LAUGHTER
31:33You know what?
31:34He went to jail three times.
31:37LAUGHTER
31:40The third one, that was a breaker.
31:42I can't now.
31:42He went to jail.
31:43Yeah, three times.
31:44Broke up when he ended up in prison three times.
31:46Uh, Rachel, just getting back to send help,
31:49uh, you have form playing the anti-hero,
31:51uh, because Regina George in John's favourite film Mean Girls,
31:55uh, I mean...
31:57Yes, sister.
31:58LAUGHTER
31:59Is it true that you didn't understand how much people would hate
32:02Regina George?
32:04Yeah.
32:05Yes.
32:05I did...
32:06Well, yes.
32:07LAUGHTER
32:08I did...
32:09I didn't know...
32:10I didn't know how it would hit.
32:11I didn't know, like, you know...
32:13Yes, how hated she would be for how long.
32:17LAUGHTER
32:17But what was that?
32:18So the first time you saw a screening with an audience,
32:20was that when it dawned on you?
32:22Yes, yes.
32:23Everyone except for my best friend, who was beside me.
32:25So when I got hit by the bus, everyone cheered,
32:29and she went,
32:30No!
32:32LAUGHTER
32:34And I was, like, yanking her down.
32:36I was, like, right here.
32:37I'm alive.
32:39We're good.
32:40And she was crying.
32:42But she was the only one who was upset about me getting killed.
32:46She saw a very different film.
32:47LAUGHTER
32:48Yes.
32:48Well, everyone's going to love Reggie McAdams in Send Help.
32:52You can see it in cinemas from next Thursday.
32:55That's where that's out, yeah.
32:56APPLAUSE
33:00Now, John Bishop, I love this.
33:03John Bishop is in a Hollywood movie.
33:05Well, his story is, is this thing on?
33:08It's out today.
33:09It's directed by Bradley Cooper,
33:11stars Will Arnett and Laura Dern,
33:12and they've been on the show talking about it.
33:15So I suppose the main thing is,
33:17how the hell did this happen, John?
33:19And what does it feel like?
33:22I'm massive in Hollywood.
33:24LAUGHTER
33:24No, it's really, really weird, really strange,
33:28because I met Will Arnett eight years ago
33:32on a barge in Amsterdam,
33:35which is the start of all good stories,
33:37but I met him through a mutual friend, Chris Strickier,
33:40who's a, you know, who's a film producer,
33:43and he said,
33:44tell Will your story of how you got into comedy.
33:47So I told him, Will went, that's a great story.
33:49I'd love to try and write it as a script
33:51with my writing partner, Mark Shappell.
33:53So I said, great, you start writing it,
33:56but I, you know, I want to chip in,
33:58I want to be part of the writing process.
33:59So they would write a script and send it to me,
34:02and then I'd send some notes,
34:03and I'd write some bits and send it back,
34:05and then they'd send me the new version with none of my bits in.
34:09LAUGHTER
34:09And I'd send some, I thought,
34:11they haven't got the email, I'd send it back,
34:13and then they'd still come back without my bits,
34:15and I went, my bit's shit, boys.
34:17And the truth was, it was too close to me.
34:21You know, the story about what got into comedy,
34:24the reality of it was too close,
34:26so I had to step away and allow them to write it.
34:30I'm so glad I did.
34:31There was a big portion of trust involved in that,
34:34but the end result is brilliant.
34:36And obviously you spoke to, you know, the writers and everything,
34:40and told them the story, but Melanie,
34:43she spoke to, was it Laura Dern who plays her in the movie?
34:46Yes, so Laura Dern got cast,
34:48and then through mutual friend Laura reached out
34:51and said to Melanie, can I meet you?
34:53So Melanie went and sat with Laura
34:56and just downloaded her side of the story
34:59and what went on.
35:00So Laura's character, honestly,
35:01God reflects Melanie so, so much,
35:04and there's one particular scene,
35:07which was true.
35:09We got a note, you know,
35:10you sometimes get from kids where they go,
35:12there's head lice in the school,
35:14can you check each other?
35:15And we weren't living together,
35:16so she had to come to my house,
35:18and we had to check each other for head lice,
35:20which is such an intimate thing,
35:23I know, yeah.
35:24And it's such an intimate thing to do, though,
35:26when you're not living together,
35:28you know what I mean?
35:28And so she told Laura that,
35:31and then Bradley put it straight into the film.
35:33And that's the clip, that's the clip we've got.
35:36This is Laura and Will with nits.
35:41I think I might have lice.
35:43And he's...
35:44Aren't you seeing it jump off me?
35:45Let's get you in the chair,
35:47and I think that's what we're gonna do.
35:48Yeah, one just crawling in between.
35:50No, I'm pregnant.
35:51You are so pregnant.
35:53You hooked up with a bug.
35:54All right, guys.
35:55Guys.
35:55But, Dad, that's how you said you get lice.
35:57Oh, is that how you said it?
35:58No.
35:59It was a joke,
36:00because the video said we're looking for baby eggs,
36:02all right? It was a joke.
36:03Did you hook up with a bug?
36:04No.
36:05Well, you've got lice, so...
36:06Yeah, you did.
36:07You hooked up with a bug.
36:08You promised not to tell them.
36:09You hooked up with a bug.
36:11All right, you know what?
36:11You guys need to rehearse.
36:12Let's go.
36:13Okay.
36:13Let's go.
36:14I already know it.
36:15Keep the volume down, too.
36:17Keep the volume up?
36:18No, not up.
36:19Keep the volume down.
36:19I'm serious about the volume.
36:21So you're really not seeing anything?
36:22There's no little bites?
36:24I don't think so.
36:25To be honest, it's just looking...
36:27Now it's making me itch.
36:28I think that I must have it.
36:29Would you check me?
36:30Sure.
36:32Aw.
36:33I love mine.
36:38And it is, I think, for a British audience watching this,
36:41it'll seem quite far away from your life,
36:43because it's set in America now,
36:45Will Arnett is playing you,
36:46but those big scenes in it are real.
36:51Like, Melanie, she did accidentally see you doing stand-up.
36:55Yeah, yeah, yeah.
36:56So the big...
36:57So for people who don't know, I fell into stand-up
37:00because we split up, me and my wife,
37:02and I was a month away from being 34,
37:05and the only reason I went into stand-up
37:08is I was...
37:09One Monday night.
37:11I used to have the kids every weekend,
37:13so Monday I used to be on a downer.
37:16And I was walking past a comedy club in Manchester
37:18called The Frog and Bucket,
37:20which I'm sure you're very familiar with.
37:21Oh, I know.
37:23You've been there many times.
37:25And I was...
37:26I'd been to two comedy clubs in my whole life.
37:29I had no interest in stand-up comedy at all.
37:32And, anyway, they...
37:33I thought, I'll go in,
37:35because comedy's great,
37:36and anyone who's ever on their own,
37:37just go to a comedy club,
37:38you're sitting in a room full of strangers,
37:40but everyone laughs at the same time.
37:42So I thought, I'll go in there,
37:43and it'll cheer me up.
37:44And, erm...
37:46I used to do this joke,
37:48which is not the best joke in the world,
37:49and I've said this story before,
37:51but it's the only story that's the truth,
37:52is I used to...
37:54I used to do this joke
37:55to let all the ladies in the room
37:57know I was a single man.
37:59I used to say,
38:00I'm really sad at the moment,
38:02ladies and gentlemen,
38:02because me and my wife are not together.
38:05Oh!
38:06It's not that sad, honestly.
38:08We're not divorced or anything.
38:09I've just killed her.
38:11LAUGHTER
38:11But I knew I was going to miss her,
38:13so I've kept her head in the fridge.
38:15LAUGHTER
38:16It's a terrible joke!
38:17Terrible!
38:18And I got announced on stage this Thursday,
38:21and I said this joke on stage,
38:24and as I said it,
38:25I looked to the left,
38:26and the head that was meant to be in the fridge
38:28was in the audience.
38:29LAUGHTER
38:31Oh, no!
38:31This is the true story.
38:32So she was in the audience,
38:34and what had happened,
38:35we'd been apart for almost two years at this point,
38:37and when you're apart,
38:39you live parallel lives,
38:40so you don't really know what's going on
38:42in each other's life,
38:43you deal with the logistics of children.
38:44She had a new job,
38:46the people she was working with
38:54didn't even know my name,
38:56so when I get announced on,
38:57they don't understand why she goes,
38:59what the f**k?!
39:01And then I go on stage
39:02in front of a room full of strangers
39:04and tell them I've killed her
39:05and kept her head in the fridge!
39:07LAUGHTER
39:09Oh, no!
39:10So that's...
39:10that twist is in the film
39:12where they get back together,
39:13and what happened with us is that...
39:16I remember when I was young
39:17I remember,
39:17we were literally going through the final stages
39:19of the divorce,
39:20I remember seeing her and thinking,
39:22God,
39:22that's going to cost me another ten grand!
39:24LAUGHTER
39:25And then she came over,
39:27and we started talking,
39:29and it was lovely,
39:30we discovered each other again,
39:32she said,
39:32she said,
39:33that was a surprise.
39:34I said, look,
39:34I'm really sorry about the whole head thing.
39:36She said, no.
39:37She said,
39:38the surprise was you were funny.
39:39You made me laugh.
39:41LAUGHTER
39:42Why weren't you doing that earlier?
39:44I know,
39:44she said,
39:45you made me laugh,
39:46she said,
39:46you reminded me of the man that I first met.
39:49Oh!
39:50She said,
39:50whatever happened to you?
39:51I said,
39:52they married you.
39:53LAUGHTER
39:55So she said,
39:56well,
39:57do you think we can do something?
39:58So we ended up,
39:59we ended up,
40:00like in the film,
40:01we ended up dating each other secretly,
40:03and then we ended up going to relate,
40:04and then we ended up getting back together,
40:06so now we've been married for 33 years.
40:09Wow!
40:09APPLAUSE
40:11You see why they wanted to make it into a film.
40:14And it's a lovely story on a lovely film.
40:17And listen, we must very quickly mention,
40:19stand-up is still very much a part of your life.
40:21Your new company tour,
40:22Let's Go Round Again.
40:24Tickets go on sale today.
40:26Oh, wow.

40:29I know.
40:30Well, to be honest with you,
40:31I didn't want to launch it,
40:32but I'm doing all of this press,
40:33and I'm thinking,
40:33I can't come back in two months, can I?
40:36LAUGHTER
40:36So we were planning to do it anyway.
40:39Stand-up is what I do.
40:40That's me job.
